â BIOGRAPHY
A New York native, Theo Langley learned the meaning of family fairly quickly. His parents were both immigrants - having moved to the states in the 80s seeking what they thought the American dream would offer them. As with most families, they were quickly fed a dose of reality. His father was able to get a job at a corner store, helping prepare food while his mother worked as a maid for families much more well off than they were.Â
They struggled through much of Theo's younger years, with chaos on the streets around him. He fell into the wrong sorts of crowds, often coming home with black eyes or fat lips from challenging the other boys much larger than him. Scrawny and little as he was, he never backed down from the fights he picked. His father actively discouraged this behavior, telling him that it was better for people like them to keep their heads down and do as they're told. He would calm for a while, then his ego would get the better of him.Â
When he was 15, his father passed away. It was a robbery at the corner store where he worked, and he was much too slow in trying to get the cash for the man. He was shot twice, the first had been a gut shot and the second hit him in the thigh. Theo was told it was quick, but he knew better.Â
His older brother, Ira, started to grow completely distant from the family after that - coming home angrier and angrier. And when Theo was 18, Ira left and never came back. He never understood why his father's passing led to Ira leaving, and never pressed harder to find out why. Not long after, his mother started to become sickly - an increasing burden on the two already struggling remaining members of the family.Â
The boys he always got into scraps with when he was younger had started to grow a begrudging respect for him never backing down and eventually extended a hand to him, allowing him into their inner circle. What he found was that they were a bunch of two-bit criminals - often doing odd jobs for money. His closest friend was known as their 'cracker', as he had the best ear and could pop the safes quicker than the rest of them.Â
On a job, they got caught up in a heated scuffle with a rival group - leading to some of their own getting shot, and the police showing up. It was then that an idea started to form in Theo's mind. The police, however, gave him a night in jail, and reunited him with his brother for the first time in four years. Now an officer of the law, Ira let him off without filing paperwork and told him, much like his father had years before, to keep his head down to just survive.
Instead, he went right back to his friends - who he now realized were a part of a much larger group called the Brotherhood and he was very slowly being incorporated under their wing. The lack of guns that his new 'friends' were able to get bothered him - and whether that was because they didn't want them or because the higher ups didn't care to supply them, he had no idea. But what he knew was that he wanted to be a distributor. If he could control the flow of weaponry, he could control who gets hurt and when. And maybe innocents could be left out of it.Â
Fourteen years and a lot of hard work and proving himself later, he met that goal. No longer the small, scrawny boy who never backed down from a fight - Theo was now the man to see for whatever arms one might need for attack, protection, or the like.Â
During that fourteen years, he met a woman who he fell in love with. They lasted for a whirlwind of three years, but she couldn't handle him not being present or the violence teeming just under his skin. Fortunately for her, she escaped before she could get dragged into the gang wars or get hurt.
He's fair in his deals, firm when he needs to be, but never tries to undercut those above him. Whatever orders come down from up top, he follows to the letter as he holds his own ambitions for rising in the ranks and to help call the shots. If they need more money, he gets them more money. If they want more violence, he gives them more violence. Whatever others may not have the stomach for, he rolls up his sleeves and gets to work. It's not that it's fun for him, but rather it's what he feels called to do. It's what he needs to do. The money allows him to get treatment for his ailing mother, though she has no idea where it comes from or what he does.
