adrasteiacurthrp:
She pretended to not notice the fact that he was playing with his food, lacking the enthusiasm to actually eat the pilaf. Adra couldnât pinpoint what was wrong nor does she even want to in the first place. Instead she simply closed one eye and concentrated on scooping her own share, eating it as if she was in her own house and not in some giant house.Â
âI was thinking of exploring the outskirts of the town⌠you know somewhere I can actually stargaze.â She missed doing so. Back in the states, she had never missed it â going to the countryside or somewhere remotely away from the city lights and enjoy the starlight once in every two weeks at least. Even just the mere thought of it would cause her to glow and smile like a child getting a present on Christmas morning. âDo you know a place by any chance?â
Try as she might, she couldnât ignore the fact that he just took a small bite. She was about to ask him what was wrong â if her food was putting him off but then he spoke. Setting her spoon down, her cheeks flushed slightly. Adra couldnât help but feel the twinge of guilt in her chest. She did wonder if the fact that she was in New York at the same time as he was would ever be revealed. âI missed you too, Theodore.â
âI-I donât... leave the house much.â He admitted in a rather sad tone. âJust occasionally. Yâknow?â He paused. âI-I-Iâm sure we-- er-- you could find a place.â He didnât want to intrude.Â
Theodore sipped at his glass again an forced a few more spoonfuls into his mouth, though it felt strange to eat a complete meal for the first time in a while. A snack every now and then, or plenty of fluids was all that heâd gotten used to over the past few months. Of course Theodore could read into her... so he detested. âThe food is delicious... I swear. I-I just, uh, I havenât been taking care of myself lately, yâknow?â He knew that sheâd more than likely chew him out for getting into her head like that, but he felt the need to. Heâd hate to make her feel bad for his own faults.Â
I missed you too, Theodore.Â
He set his silverware down to avert his gaze from the plate to her general direction-- though it seemed that heâd reverted back to refusing to gaze her straight in the eyes. Despite this, he knew exactly what they appeared to be-- golden blue hues-- like a sea at sunrise. They put his coal eyes to shame, magnified behind thick frames.Â
âI-It feels... a little more like home, now.â He admitted to her. It really did. Although things werenât exactly how they were years before, her presence was all that really picked his spirits up-- if not just a bit, especially considering the tragedy that surrounded the both of them after theyâd parted ways.Â
maxwelldexterevans:
âOh.. yeah.. an experiment. I mean yeah, it sounds pretty complex and hella dangerous. Have you made the participants sign whatever clause to prevent them from suing you for some emotional damage? I hope so. Some people can be really nasty with lawsuits. But Iâm sure you got your arses covered. Is the research still ongoing or youâre just writing it out?â
âItâs, uh... m-mandatory for there to be legal documents stating that they fully agree to our practices and that weâre not liable for any emotional damages following the series of analyses.â He nodded once. âOngoing-- however, I-I type up new notes on a daily basis... Itâs a little overwhelming. Itâs for a theses Iâm hoping to publish for the mental health community.â He shrugged once.Â
maxwelldexterevans:
âDude⌠youâre talking about brain-washing and all that kinda stuff? I used to know someone who went through that. Like holy shit, that must be traumatising to experience ya know?â
âW-Well... we donât necessarily brainwash. We simply analyze the childhood memories of young adults, and implant false memories to see how far the human psyche can be manipulated. I-In some cases, people are flooded with real memory, however, we use hypnosis towards the end of a trial with a patient in order to allow the test subject to cope... Theyâre all volunteers or patients believed to already posses false memories that haunt them to this day. I-I-Itâs... complicated...â

adrasteiacurthrp:
While he was setting up the table, a small smile formed on her thick lips as she remembered their first time at dinner â how they had argued over where the salt and pepper have to be on the table. Adra stirred the pot some more, shaking her head slightly as the memory flooded her. That Adra was no longer present â the positions of cutlery didnât bother her anymore.Â
âOne serving of pilaf coming right up!â The chirp almost sounded fake â if not forced. Truthfully, sheâd crawl back to her house and hide beneath the covers if she truly follows her instincts. There was just something pulling her back, forcing herself to appear ânormalâ in front of him. Whatever normal means. âSummer is ending soon,â she started, picking up his plate and scooping up the pilaf. âAny last minute plans to do before autumn comes along?â
âDelicious.â He chided in the same tone heâd given her-- falsified happiness. Sitting at the table, he waited for her to bring the serving his way... and she gave him a hefty scoop... one that he knew heâd refuse to finish.Â
She began to speak of last minute plans before autumn, but Theodore simply shrugged. âI-Iâve been working throughout the summer... n-not much is going to change once autumn sets in. You?âÂ
He picked at the pilaf like a child that refused to eat his veggies-- but Theodoreâs appetite wasnât very prominent at the moment. The worst of it all was the fact that with Adrasteia in his presence, he felt the need to indulge in her cooking. Sheâd always been a great cook; and although his stomach did churn at the thought of taking even one spoonful due to the substances heâd put in his body earlier that day, he forced himself to take a small bite-- one that made it seem as though he really couldnât take it all in. Chewing for awhile, he listened to her... then quickly reached for his glass to sip at it.Â
âY-Yâknow... I, uh...â He hesitated, but having her sit directly across from him at the kitchen nook, having a home cooked meal from, well, one of his favorite people in the world, he had to say it. âI-I-I miss this. Not just the food and the competitive trivia challenges and whatnot, but... you.â Again, he picked at the food with his fork, his other hand holding his glass close.Â
maxwelldexterevans:
âNothing wrong with it really. I mean I only like being indoors when I am tinkering with my gadgets so there ya go. What are you writing about again?â
âFalse memory in adolescents and young adults.â He sputtered quickly.Â
gothicblackdahlia:
âWell my dear you canât win them all youâre good at different things to me and it would be boring if we weâre both the same after all,â Medusaâs smile was warm and genuine hiding a hint of mischief about it, The man was intriguing to her for a number of reasons and most prominent of these was is total lack of understanding on social norms, sure Medusa thought to herself he could read people but he didnât understand flirting which was a juxtaposition she could live with.
After all she was enjoying talking to Theodore, itâs not everyday you talk to a psychotherapist about anything that doesnât involve the human psyche. Medusa has had some experience with that aspect while she was detained in Mexico on some trumped up murder charges, she noted the cerebral nature of psychotherapy sometimes, she was fortunate and glad to not have to go though that every time because it would just drive her insane. She wasnât keen on the idea of people figuring out she wasnât all that she seemed and she made it her mission to keep away from anything that would draw attention to herself from the psychotherapy community
She smiled intently at Theodore noticing how uncomfortable he was, âI was about to go into my apartment, was wondering if you wanted a cup of coffee or anything like that?â
âO-Oh, I donât go into the apartments of strangers...â He mumbled, twiddling his thumbs in an awkward manner. âI-I-I mean, I appreciate the offer, but... I really should be getting on. Iâve got a lot of work to do-- rain check?â

adrasteiacurthrp:
Used to staying in smaller apartments and houses, Theodoreâs home seemed like a castle to her â a somewhat ancient one. She pondered over the fact he had just told her and Adra made a face. âSince the sixties.. geez. Does this mean you had tons to clean when you acquired the estate?â She cringed slightly at the morbid fact, shaking her head.Â
Cooking was second nature to her â same goes for her other talents. Adra usually finds herself making more than needed and end up giving food away to her neighbours and that habit has followed her all the way to England of all places. It did garner her a little fame. The episode prior to this lingered in the depths of her mind although she forced herself to concentrate on the ingredients in front of her. Soon the pot in front of her was bubbling, aromas filling up the kitchen. âAre you going to set the table?â she asked innocently.
âN-No... not much. A few boxes here and there, and a few furniture pieces, but it was pretty empty.â He answered. When she asked him if heâd set the table, he nodded and promptly began to gather plates, glasses, silverware, and cotton napkins to set the kitchen table with-- there was no use in using the dining room. It was far too large. Then, how would he engage in pleasant conversation if she was at the foot of the table, three chairs down?Â
After filling a glass pitcher with water and the two glasses with ice, he poured them, giving an innocent, yet simultaneously melancholic half-assed smile in Adraâs direction.Â
âThere...âÂ
maxwelldexterevans:
âDoes this also mean you hate being outdoors?â
âThat would be coined the term agoraphobia... and yes, I-I do have a very slight form of it.â

âChildren must be taught how to think, not what to think.â

maxwelldexterevans:
âAre you one of those people who love watching rain and find it relaxing to do something productive?â
âI-Indeed! Pluviophilia, to be exact.â
âYâknow, I-Iâm really enjoying all the rain weâve been getting this week. Helps me edit my papers with more ease.â
averydavenport:
âOh, that is nice. To be honest with you I didnât think I liked kids untilââ Avery froze for a moment as she suddenly thought of Gia and Valentina. She didnât want to start crying and seem like a freak, so she focused her thoughts on something else. âCan you eat popcorn? I swear I saw a popcorn stand somewhere.â She blinked and smile, trying to clear her thoughts. âItâs nice to meet you, Theo. Iâm Avery, and this is Madison,â she mentioned as she placed her hand on her abdomen.
Theo noticed the slight twinge of pain in her expression after she paused, but he simply slid his hands into the deep pockets of his trousers after adjusting his glasses. âPopcorn? Y-Yeah, I mean... all types of corn are gluten free.â He nodded once.Â
âWell, uh... hey, Madison.â He forced a slight smile; one that only close friends would detect as such. It was a still a smile, nonetheless. Coming from Theodore Anderson, that was a huge gesture nowadays-- but children were his one weakness.Â
âH-How far along are you? Do you mind my asking? I-I-I donât mean to be nosy.â
averydavenport:
Avery tried to pay attention to him as much as she could but in the middle of his explanation she ended up thinking about how Darcy would look while wearing a french fries costumes. Shaking her head, she watched the stranger as he drank some water, wondering if he was all right. âI donât think itâs pathetic. Do you know whatâs pathetic? Coming here only to eat since that is the only thing I can do while Iâm pregnant.â She sighed. âWhat stuff do you usually eat?â
Theodore scanned her from head to toe briefly once she mentioned her pregnancy before mumbling. âCongratulations.â Offering her a slight smile, he shrugged. âI-I love kids. I used to be a child psychologist full-time back in the states, b-b-but now I, uh-- mainly conduct research studies.âÂ
What stuff do you usually eat?Â
In all honesty, Theo usually forgot to eat unless it was right there in front of him, at least for the past year and a half or so. âWell... Iâm gluten intolerant, I-I have a, uh, peanut allergy, shellfish allergy, chocolate allergy, um... red food dye gives me hives...â He paused and furrowed his eyebrows. âI guess I just eat a lot of fruits, veggies, and red meats?â
âI-Iâm Theo by the way.âÂ

Riley had lost track of time wandering. It was funny how she rarely stopped to play any games or go on any rides. She preferred to keep moving, to let the noise and the people bustling around her be all the excitement she needed. Eventually though, she grew hungry, stopping outside one of the many food stands set up at the carnival. People in front of her were huffing, grumbling under their breath, shooting out occasional âCome on manâs to the person at the front of the line. When Riley caught a bit of his conversation with the vendor, she moved from the line, coming to stand beside him. âThereâs a food stand down by the teacups that is completely gluten free, I can show you.â
âReally? Wow, that would be, uh-- amazing.â He nodded, twiddling his thumbs nervously before sputtering a quiet âsorryâ towards the people behind him. Grimacing a bit, Theo introduced himself. âI-I-Iâm Theodore. Thanks for, yâknow, saving my buttox. Coming between people and their unhealthy carnival food isnât a good idea.â He stifled a single laugh.
Hey hey! Help a girl out. I want to play the water gun game but I need a partner to play with.
âOh, I-I donât uh... touch those things. Too many germs.â
â...But I guess itâs nothing a few handi-wipes wonât fix.â
