when i get some extremely targeted advertising, the ONLY thing that bothers me is how aggressively i feel them telling me it's okay to be single. there are only so many ads you can see featuring an adult over 40 and their photogenic pet(s) before you get suspicious.

A sign I spotted while running errands today. I looked it up when I got home and this billboard is apparently an artpiece by Bretstad. It's called "Sardonical". Their website is https://bretstad.art/sardonicale/ if you want to read more about it.
(Above is what Anon originally submitted, but I also wanted to include other signs from this series below! Images from the website itself)
People with the same name who are not the same person
An updated list by someone who clearly isn’t paying attention. Previous realizations include:
Karl and Keith Urban (Karl Urban looks like he could sing country)
Jimmy and Warren Buffet (I just assumed Margaritaville did really well)
Weses Craven and Anderson (what a range on that guy!)
Today I discovered:
Kates Winslet and Hudson (Listening to a Kate Hudson interview today I asked myself, “Isn’t she English?” and had to google her)
And one that I’ve never experienced but I know others have:
HG Wells, Orson Welles, and George Orwell are all different dystopian visionaries.
NEWS ALERT: JOSH GROBAN IS NOT JOSH BROLIN.
Are you … ok? How did you mix any of these up??? Kate Winslet and Kate Hudson??? Were you not alive in the 00s?
Being fair, I was in grad school, and also don’t really care much about movies.
I think the only movie I’ve ever seen Kate Winslet in is Sense and Sensibility. I don’t know that I’ve seen a single film Kate Hudson is in unless she’s actually the one in Sense and Sensibility. :D
(I just checked, I have indeed never seen her in a film. So that’s a factor.)
😆, every part of this response is A*, thank you. My main question is - you’ve never seen titanic??? (Congrats on spending none of your limited life span watching Kate Hudson “act”. If only we could all claim this).
So, I grew up in the 80s and as a kid one of my early hyperfixations was the Titanic – I was fascinated by stories of the people and of the ship and its sinking, but mostly I was just really interested in shipwrecks.
I don’t know that a lot of people are aware of this, but for decades we didn’t actually know where on the seafloor it was, and had no way of visiting or raising it. It wasn’t until 1985 that we began to get photographs of the wreck, and I was PRIME age to be obsessed with shipwrecks and treasure hunts. So I was really into Titanic when I was little. And it became evident from the marketing early on that the film was, in many ways, just Titanic as backdrop to a fictional romance I had no real interest in. I wanted a story about the real Titanic!
With the power of hindsight, I may have judged it harshly – I haven’t seen it so I don’t know. :D But I simply had no interest in it. A film in those days – even still today – has to be pretty compelling to get my ass to sit still in a dark room for two hours.
Fun fact, I’ve also never heard My Heart Will Go On in its entirety. The alternative radio station I listed to as a teenager was hip and edgy and banned its play. I know bits, of course, because I was alive in the 90s, but by and large that whole thing passed me on by.
Can Richard Barthelmess in The Fighting Blade (1923) please win worst bob. The film is actually an underrated banger but I still have nightmares about this haircut (and need to inflict it on everyone else)
oh richard. oh honey.

That is a big-ass fucking seagull head.
This is the sort of shit that all public artwork should be. The kind that you can use as a landmark to find your lost buddies. Going like "yeah I'm standing at the front of this building. Under the giant fucking seagull head. You'll know it when you see it."
