when virginia woolf said “second hand books are wild books, homeless books; they have come together in vast flocks of variegated feather, and have a charm which the domesticated volumes of the library lack,”
Is it just me or are in home libraries like the dreamiest thing? A little cozy room lined with shelves, full of books of all shape and color that you’ve collected over the years, with a big round window in an alcove where you can sit and sip some tea and thumb through your favorite novel and listen to the rain pattering against the glass. Thats the life
“She was the amoureuse of all the novels,
The heroine of all the plays,
The vague “she” of all the poetry books.”
Gustave Flaubert, Madame Bovary
Fernando Pessoa, The Book of Disquiet

Lestat, Rose, and Parchment for the asks
Lestat: curious, odd, hopeful, caring, defiant
Rose: hm... do I have to just pick one? I guess if I had to pick just one, right now, it would have to be 1920s America. I am absolutely in love with American history, largely because of its ‘melting pot.’ I am fascinated by nearly every culture, and America’s unique beginning just amazes me. The 1920s have everything that fascinates me when it comes to American history, the dramatic highs and lows in the transition into the 1930s, the activist culture beginning to blossom as a result of economic prosperity... really I could go on forever. There are many other periods I love, both in American history and others, but the 1920s would have to be my favorite.
Parchment: I suppose I’ve already proven I can ramble on forever about history, haha. It really depends on what’s caught my interest at the time, but currently it’s American history and, essentially, communications. I want everyone to be able to have access to information and education and one of the most important steps is making people realize that they deserve it, or even that that access can exist. I would love to combine two of my largest passions, helping people and learning, and I truly believe that this is possible.
Victorian Vampire Asks
Carmilla: Describe your style. What is your aesthetic comprised of?
Red Wine: What is your favourite type of weather? What do you like to do during this weather?
Lestat: Describe yourself in 5 words.
Gothic Novels: Do you like to read? What sort of books do you read? Do you have a favourite?
Dracula: Do you like sweets? What kind do you like? Can you cook or bake? What do you fancy eating?
Rose: Which time era do you fancy? Why?
Kaspar: A fact about you not many know? Do you have a hidden talent?
Raven: What mythological creature would you be and why?
Nosferatu: Are you a night owl or an early bird?
Parchment: One thing you could spend hours discussing?
Louis: Are you afraid of the supernatural? Do you have any scary stories to tell?
Inkblot: What makes you infuriated? Do you get upset easily?
Dorian: What do you find beauty in? What is the definition of beauty?
“An odd phrase, “by heart,” (…) as though poems were stored in the bloodstream.”
— A.S. Byatt, from Possession: A Romance.
It was the blue of legend, simply; the color that satisfies the soul like sleep.
- Willa Cather, On the Gulls’ Road
“Can I call you home?”
— Siegfried Sassoon, from The Selected Poems (1976); “November Dusk,”

i love the victorian era aesthetic.. .shitty ass candles and dirty streets, tweeds, carriages, ghost stories, the widespread existential panic due to newly discovered dinosaur bones and the theory of evolution
Denise Levertov, from The Collected Poems of Denise Levertov; “To the Snake,”
I don't know how things will go now but with God's help we have brought peace to this land of ours - a peace which will end this old strife of ours forever.
~ Michael Collins to Kitty Kiernan, December 6, 1921
how much can you change
and get away with it,
before you turn into someone else,
before it’s some kind of murder?
— portrait of fryderyk in shifting light, richard siken
I’m done with all of this romanticizing ‘damsel in distress,’ and wallowing in old injustices. I want more Greek mythology poems where Icarus knew what he was doing and reveled in it. I want more poems of Athena, strong and wise, the mastermind behind the brute force of Ares, a goddess of war all on her own. I want more of Artemis, not as Apollo’s sister, but as the fierce and independent huntress she is. More of Artemis’s huntresses, and tales of their adventures.
I want more. More independence, more strength, more confidence. I will no longer except anything less than might. We need to remember that Persephone is not the only myth with claws.

postcards say IM HERE. IM HERE AND I LOVE YOU. IN THIS SPACE AND TIME AND WHEREVER AND WHENEVER YOU ARE. THERE IS A SPACE BETWEEN THOSE SPACES THAT CONNECTS US AND ITS FULL OF LOVE. I’LL MEET YOU THERE.
same energy
i love it when people say “must you?” both because it makes me feel like i’m in a period drama and because yes, i absolutely must
