First Dream in two weeks
What do I dream about when I sleep long enough to have a dream for the first time in two weeks? A Purdue Band bowl trip. White sequined dress and everything, I have to use the bathroom as we are boarding busses and all I can think of are Guido and Eric saying "no pooping." Amanda was saving my seat as I hurry back inside to the hotel, miss my bus, leave my wallet, phone, room key in the room and I have my practice silk on my flag. Some hotel guy says I'll have to catch a cab. They help me get my stuff out of my room and I wake up. My first "rational" thought: wasn't I always bus captain? They couldn't leave without me. That was so stressful!!
Just two weeks ago
Around this hour, just two weeks ago, I was getting admitted to labor and delivery. I had spent almost 12 hours in active labor, frustrated that I couldn’t have access to pain relief until I could prove I was making progress. A room and a nurse all to myself greeted me after admission and soon after, the sanity and rest granting gift that is the epidural arrived in the skilled hands of my anesthesiologist. A little sleep. A little pitocin. Some ice chips. Meet & greet with my medical team.By 11am it was go time. In two contractions worth of pushes, a warm pink gooey little boy arrive on my chest to say hello and freak out about the world he had just been born into. The day was filled with amazement at the easy physical recovery, realizations that my husband and I were a lot less worried the second time around, and visits by family that in hindsight were probably much too soon. Man, this was all just two weeks ago.
Achievement Unlocked : 50th diaper changed. #newborngames
Today was pretty great. From pajamas to dressed all you wanted after Ii mentioned the words special treat was to go get it! We kicked the day off with a cup full of delicious blueberries as I packed milk for each of us. Then we bundled up and headed out to my OB appt for little brother. On the way we got the very special treat, donuts! You got to pick your own from the donut display at Marsh and selected the chocolate glazed yeast donut with sprinkles. Good taste! We headed to pay for them and you stopped to hug the giant penguin floor balloon. After getting back in the car I gave you a portion of your donut and you were obsessed. You took a few bites, then you ate it sprinkle by sprinkle followed by licking off the chocolate and scarfing the rest. "More donut please" followed quickly. At the Dr. we walked past the fish in the tank and you said hello, excited and remembering from last week's visit. I put my things down in the room and got on the scale. You chimed in with "stay still" as I told you last week. Then you told me to pee in a cup, which the nurse said was what was next on her list. So cute! Dr. Rothenburg came in and talked to you while I finished up what you told me to do. They listened to baby brother's heart beat and then checked to see if he was coming soon: answer was no, probably 2 more weeks. You talked to the Dr and nurse about the fish and which were your favorite colors. I changed your smelly diaper then we went and visited with the fish for a while. You liked the red one. I liked the white one that hides in the corner. We made our follow up appointment and went home. You requested we go for a walk so I took you in the wagon, all bundled up in the 32F chilly sunshine. We came inside, applied the pink monkey tattoo from the dr and played then talked with Aunt Chrissy and Uncle Max on FaceTime in Glenview. We made tomato soup and grilled cheese with cold sweet green beans for lunch. You would have locked the bowl if you could! Nap time came and I got supplies ready to make Valentines cards and decorations. You woke up and we used glue and construction paper to create lovely cards. Daddy came home as we taped hearts to the front door! You went with Daddy to get taco supplies and at the store you ate 4 cilantro leaves then grabbed a tomato off the shelf and took a bite right out of it! Daddy prepped all the veggies and you are 90% of the tomato you started at the grocery store, apple style! You loved it! We made tacos and danced to jazz music followed by a bath in the big tub and stories with daddy. I came in after you said you wouldn't go to bed until you heard my steps down the hall to your room. We talked, prayed and gave lots of kisses. What a great day!

DIY Upcycled Kid's craft bag - All you need is the packaging from a new sheet set! I used one from Kohl's and replaced the inserted cards with a hand cut decorated one that was the same size. It was the perfect fit for at least 4 coloring books, stickers and two boxes of crayons. There's plenty of space to spare!
A rainbow formed from a new mirror on the wall. We talked about refraction. We took turns putting the rainbow on our hands and tummies. Daddy tried to see just one color so his face was in the rainbow. We gave him a rainbow mustache, then we had him open his mouth to taste it. McBaby wanted to taste the rainbow so she licked daddy’s cheek and said “I taste the rainbow. It’s yummy.” It’s scratchy was the next observation. She licked him a couple times. Then kissed the rainbow on his lips. It was sweet and a fun lesson.
McBaby at 25 months. She is sitting with a handful of old friends from the nursery as we get it ready for Baby Brother. I know she has grown up so much but the hint of baby nostalgia is creeping in. When did 2 years dissolved into a breath and a few (thousand) photos?
2012 End-of-Year Listicle // Year-in-Review
I can’t believe this is the fourth year running (!) of this list, but here it goes: The best - and worst - of the blog in 2012. Going through this year’s posts was really fun and reminded me of everything that we’ve shared together —
This blog cracks me up! Great "Top" list!

The Uncertain Transition to Staying Home while Job Hunting
(Originally written almost 2 years ago, I'm in the exact same situation. I've actually repeated this scenario about 4 times in the past 2 years. Crazy economy, not making my future predictable despite talent and a college degree... At least this time I know I've got at least 3 months of "at home" time ahead of me starting now and ending when/if I get a job after baby #2 can go to daycare!)
There's a difference between "stay at home mom" and "relocated but jobless working mom." At any time, the situation could change. Living the dream... http://www.suite101.com/content/transition-to-stay-at-home-mom-have-it-your-way-a68232 http://www.mommysavers.com/stay-at-home-moms/transition-to-sahm.shtml http://www.mainstreetmom.com/jm_working_mom.htm http://www.thelightkeeper.com/sah/links.htm http://www.ehow.com/how_5310887_make-transition-stay-home-mom.html http://www.troubledwith.com/LifePressures/StayatHomeMoms.cfm http://homeparents.about.com/cs/fromworktohome/a/returnhome_2.htm http://www.theworkathomewoman.com/how-to-transition-from-stay-at-home-mom-to-work-at-home-mom/ http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071013085003AAOh2jv http://mommyandmolly.com/

12.23.12 | Kissing Daddy under the mistletoe at McGrandparents' for early Christmas! I have a picture of this same spot 2 years ago when she was 6 weeks old. Our little sweetheart is a beautiful tiny gift from above, tantrums, spilled milk and all.
Funny // Awkward Family Preggo Photos
From the Pregnant Chicken I didn't want to have any pictures of myself pregnant but a friend told me how much she regretted not at least having one or two shots because her kids wanted to know what she looked like when she was pregnant with them, so gave in and took a couple of mug-shot style pictures of myself so it was documented. With that in mind, you may want to capture your pregnancies in a photograph to preserve the wonder of life so I chose a few gems from awkwardfamilyphotos.com for a little inspiration. "Karen, seeing as you're pregnant, let's put you at the top of the family photo where the air is thinner. Karen? Karen?!?!" I can appreciate what they were trying to do here but if your Christmas photo looks like it should have a "becka, becka, bow wow" soundtrack playing in the background, then you may want to reconsider the card. I can't decide whether I like the garbage bag dress, the swamp or his black socks in the water better. "That's it, Steve. A little further back, a little further. Now crouch down. Perfect!" I think the ex-boyfriend may have been the photographer in this one. This reminds me of a picnic. A good idea in theory but an uncomfortable mess in practice. Words can't describe this photo. Oh wait a minute, they can! Okay, I actually love this photo but the toe shoes are the real kicker. Ha kicker! "It's going to be a good year, Laura. A very Goodyear indeed." At first I thought "Nothing symbolizes maternity better than a watermelon and a gun" and then I thought "Actually, nothing *does* symbolize maternity better than a watermelon and a gun". Bravo Mad'am. Like the previous Christmas card, if it looks skeezy when nobody is pregnant, then a baby bump ain't saving it so don't do it. A helpful holiday tip we can all tuck in our pockets. "If I'm holding the baby then why do I still feel fat?" Um, yeah. No. I'm just going to go with a solid no on this one. Why do I feel like this woman was talked into this? I could see her thinking, "I'm just too tired to argue plus the kids won't be able to take off because hockey equipment will slow them down and I'll hold their heads. I'm sure it will look fine." So get out there with your cameras and document your blossoming belly, you crazy gals! Happy snappin'!
Update on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 6:35PM by Pregnant Chicken
A few people have past along some other great photos and I just had to share. First let me say that this couple probably had one of the cutest babies on the planet because they have the sweetest faces so I just love how she's looking at him tenderly while stealing his gun. There simply aren't enough pregnancy/gun pictures. Lastly, I wanted to show you all a brilliant shots that these adoptive parents did. To see the whole series, check out the photographer's site. Do you think they would adopt me too because I love them. It's no naked headstand, but I love them.
Toddlers and the funny side of potty training
I've been pregnant the entire time my 2yo has been potty training. I believe this explains why she lifts up her shirt to take down her pants to go on her potty chair. Mommy does it every time because I have to pull down the stretchy part of my pants before doing my business, and that's usually always covered with a shirt layer or two. She doesn't know any better.
And it makes me realize how long we've been working on potty training: we started this process with her curiosity sometime in August. I think a lot of it is just clicking now and we made early progress in establishing a ritual: trying at wake up, mid morning, before lunch, after lunch/before nap, after nap, before dinner, after dinner/before bath, after bath/before bed.
What a little trooper. Daycare has helped with this routine and I award them great honor for doing this with 8 little kids all day! 2yo comes home for the holidays and stays home after that since my job ended before the holidays. Ahh, but little brother will join us in about a month. Maybe we offer some free nakie butt days over winter break and get her going on the potty for real!

She was so beautiful! I was so Christmas tree! It's the prettiest I'll look that pregnant ever. An updo, a mani and a pedi with full make up. Woohoo!
