i have conflicted feeling on the new series "The Testaments", mainly because of the showrunners aversion to discussing race and how race would be affected in Gilead. i watched in ep. 3 Daisy talk about women and gays and what happened to them, but it felt so clear to me that another community was missing. i think this exclusion of race as an oppressed group in the series shows the cracks and the weak writing of the show(s). this society in Gilead that has been created, where gay people are perverts, is directly tied to white supremacy and the belief that certain genders should occupy certain roles, and that certain people should only do certain things. it just feels like a complete ignorance of the actual system that is oppressing gay people and women, which is at the same time oppressing people of color. i think to have the historical experiences of poc women under oppression, but then not directly give an avenue for these women to tell their part of the story, is an exploitative choice by margaret atwood and bruce miller, the creator of The Handmaid's Tale and The Testaments.
i think it also weakens the show to not talk about the issue of racial oppression under systems like white supremacy, while having a black woman as the main lead. there's a disconnect seeing her experience of gender oppression while the show ignores the fact that this character, whether they wanted her to or not, inadvertantly changes the context of the story. it's a display that breaks the analogy the show is trying to create for you, between our world and Gilead. we know that Gilead is based on the harmful systems that already exist in this world, so why isn't race a part of that in Gilead, like it is in ours? my assumption is that the showrunners did not want to "open that can of worms" and subject the show to the questioning of a society that has not yet readied themselves to discuss racial oppression. but its fine to just discuss gender oppression, as if it does not go hand in hand with racial oppression. (isn't that ridiculous?)
i recently saw a tiktok that highlighted how chase infiniti, the actress for agnes/hannah, recommended that the costume team include a bonnet in her sleep scenes, to give representation to the girls who feel bad for wearing one. the creator of the video mentioned how she loved that a black martha was helping agnes do her hair. i love that chase infiniti got to influence her character in this way, but it again presents us with the fact that the show is just deciding not to deal with including things like racism in Gilead's systems of oppression.
in the trailers for the testaments, no commanders (that i have noticed) are black. no commanders wives are black, or women with dark skin. there are white marthas and maids, as well as black marthas maids. i interperet this, the exclusion of poc's from the higher positions, as a very subtle support of this strange place the show has put itself in, a paradox between real life systemic harm bleeding behind the scenes (in the casting) into a universe that has supposedly done away with that same system and completely ignores racial differences.
im super interested in what others think about this show and how the showrunners decided to deal with race and white supremacy's hate for non-conformity. does someone have an argument that leaving out race was a good idea? lets talk!!!

Guillermo Del Toro reposting Frankenstein yuri art on main... oh carmilla you are next!!!
Такие фотосы, вышла на работку✌️
just finished wicked: for good and i am perplexed by my feelings for glinda. i think she is a character made for an audience that grew up on the side of the oppressors vs. the oppressed, and for many years believed in the propaganda they were told. i do not relate to this part (not saying i’m separate from these structures) of her character much, and i think it makes it harder for me to get her motivations in the first part of the movie.
what i saw was a character willing to let the people she loved get hurt/ or stand by as animals were enslaved, so she could get a happy ending. only in late the second half, even third act of the movie does she start to change that view, and it’s frustrating as viewer that doesn’t relate to her much because, yeah… we already knew this was all bad girl.
i love elphaba and find her character really interesting, and i think that juxtaposition of her willingness to be so active and fight for what’s right next to glindas complicity really casts a dark shadow on glinda. (but maybe that’s the point of the story, and that’s what it’s trying to say/along the lines of)
i just couldn’t believe that after a whole year glinda was still trying to convince elphaba to apologize to the wizard, it seemed so unrealistic.
that also may be a fault of my part, that i can’t understand this facet of the movie because of my immediate thoughts that glinda is acting stupid and “why doesn’t she just stop endorsing these horrible people”
i talked with a friend and she brought a good point that glinda, without having had anyone to teach her these things, would have a harder time unlearning the propaganda that the wizard is good and everyone has “good” intentions. i agree, but i admit but its harder for me to accept that because i see multiple people telling glinda that what’s she’s doing is wrong, and she was like “is it actually that wrong?” (her genuine, deep rooted belief that will take a bit to unlearn)
my immediate answer is yes!!!! i just can’t see her point of view i suppose, and that’s what makes me feel so separated from her personal character even though i love her aesthetics and some of the whimsy/silliness she brings.
if someone had other points they wanted to discuss about glinda i would love to hear them :)

This is not only my story. In Gaza, our stories blur into one another: some of us survived, some of us didn’t, and the bombs never cared to tell us apart. We are a people living through the largest genocide of this century.
I survived… but a part of me is still trapped there, in the moment I almost lost my life.
I return to my children trying to look strong, while the truth is that my family has no home, my husband has no work, and fear sits heavy on my chest every day.
And sometimes, when I quietly fall apart inside, a painful question passes through me: Would it have been easier if I had died? But then I see my children’s eyes… and that question fades, leaving only my plea to you.
We need your kindness and support, so we can stand again and so I can protect my family before despair swallows us completely.💔
one thing that vexes me about Frankenstein (2025) is that the audience is shown Victor receiving care and tenderness from his mother while he was being abused by his father, but it seems that his experience receiving nurture from his mom had no bearing on his relationship with The Creature.
i think this is a mistake on the writers side- i suppose the abuse from his father took place over the love he knew existed in the world from his mom, but i feel like that wasn’t shown very well in the movie
from the movie alone, i do not understand why victor hates the creature as much as he does. perhaps madness overtook him, but the creature ended up being strong, being able to learn, communicate, and evolve, and still so suddenly victors views on the creature turned from wonder into disgust.

so far the Bride (2026) movie directed by Maggie Gyllenhal seems not too promising, especially compared to the most recent adaptation of Frankenstein by Guillermo Del Toro.
i need a monstrous woman. not only in character but also in looks, and so far by the trailer we haven’t got that in the Bride (2026).
gimme 🤲.
also, Frankenstein (2025) made me think about Poor Things, which, at the most basic description, basically was Frankenstein written by a man, and he was like “let’s make her fuck!”
tumblr puts sick unrealistic fantasies in my brain!
i hate sexual modern art. your shibari sculpture isn't interesting just because it's marble and gold. stop jamming your fingers in vaguely yonic fruit. you think you are some colossus of creativity? to me you are lower than those people who draw spongebob smoking weed.
