But I think it's the main difference is HOW they got the names, and I guess the humanization of it? Kayne clearly has an interest in humanity but it's very different from John, it's the same way we get interested in a cool looking rock we see on a sidewalk, while John strives to be a part of humanity, at least as much as he can be.

John took on the first name he's referred to by Lilly as a gift of sorts, while Kayne took his name for himself. It makes me think that the reason he rarely uses the name John, or uses it mockingly, is because A) it's Kayne and B) To see a Great Old One break himself down to comparably nothing in order to fit this "human" molds makes all respect just dissipate. Seeing a God hold onto the gift from a mortal, and the time (which is probably mere seconds for beings like them) is almost demeaning if you think abt it. It's probably even funny to him, in an ironic sort of way.

Which is probably why he went back to calling him Hastur in the dark world, because he believed the human persona/ideals were gone, and he was to back to what he 'truly' was.

No, really. Think about it. Wifies said in his qna that there wasn't any reason why Avery was chosen as a vessel. The King needed a clean state of mind, and anyone would work; literally the only person who couldn't was Derek, because his brain was already too damaged from the infinite knowledge.

Like imagine it was a younger sibling, nobody had heard from Derek in months and their family keeps getting notices about his storage unit, so when they all go empty it out they find his laptop and bring it home. Then they find a Minecraft world and the strange ramblings.

Then a video is posted online with proof of their brother's situation, and they race to find any sign of him or a way to help. Hours wasted with nothing but meager clues until suddenly BOOM, their brother, barely alive but still pushing himself through like he always did. They want to help him, they do everything he asks and it's still not enough to save their brother, who only died trying to save them (and the world but we all skim over that part lmao)
