There's been a handful of anti-shipping posts regarding Riz that have shown up either in main tags or as suggested posts to me recently (I know, I know, I've got to stop looking at the 'For you' tab when all it does is frustrate me) and I'm not going to waste their time or mine by trying to explain myself to them (reminder to just block and move on) but it has been fun to kind of re-solidify my argument in my head what I love so much about Fabriz stuff as an aroace person who firmly sees Riz as aroace but still likes shippy (mainly in queerplatonic ways but also yes sometimes romantic in a non-allo way!!) stuff. I don't necessarily see a ton of myself in Riz, but what I do relate to a lot is how he interacts with the idea of intimacy. I'm also an aroace person who's uncomfortable about and awkward when it comes to and sometimes deeply, deeply afraid of intimacy. I compulsively overshare (case in point) but also feel like no one really knows me because of how much I instinctively hide and lie and obfuscate around a lot of things, even (especially sometimes??) with people who do know and love me. Sometimes I really want to be seen, but the idea of being seen?? Absolutely the fuck not. The idea of intimacy is terrifying but the idea of never getting it is deeply terrifying, too, and that sometimes feels like it makes no sense and it's frustrating and obnoxious-- and I love getting to explore that same horrible dichotomy with Riz. I love seeing this character who loves it when he has the answers and who loves things to make sense and under his control realizing that he can have terrifying, wonderful, awful things in ways that work for him without it having to feel like he's being forced into a box that doesn't fit him. I love making him confront the idea that he's so afraid of only ever being offered intimacy and being known and whatever else in ways that he doesn't want that he's potentially ruining his own chances of getting it in ways he would like it.
(I also love the idea of exploring the same dichotomy in a lot of different ways for Fabian, who I think a non-traditional kind of relationship would be so much better for than a more traditional alloromantic one in the long run, but no one ever wants to talk about his side of it which is interesting in itself 🤷♀️)
It makes it extra disheartening to have all that reduced to 'just let aroace characters exist without ships or you're erasing them', especially with how often it's almost reinforcing the idea that intimacy and relationships have to look like a specific kind of romance but it isssssss what it issssssss

So this is interesting because entire thing is communication, and it also shows how important different threat/aggression postures are.
The first cat comes in ready for a fight. Low down, trying not to be seen, stalking/wary posture.
Second cat jumps in the air and then does the exaggerated arch. That's an absolutely terrified cat. No cool, no chill. A cat willing to fight would not have gone full arch because it's moving them out of a position where they could launch themselves at the other cat. However, a scared cat can move from this to a preemptive attack if they think the other cat is going to attack them and just moving slowly.
Realizing the second cat doesn't want a fight, the first cat comes out of the low, threatening slink quickly to roll around to say hey, whoops, they weren't here to attack, they don't want to fight either.
With similar speed and exaggeration as the arch, the second cat does the same wiggle that yes, I too have no desire to fight, look at me doing the same thing and conspicuously not attacking when you're vulnerable.
To function as a social species, you need checks and deescalation. Both cats don't have perfect information about the other cat, and they need to know that they could misread or be misread, and then adjust their behavior to fix the problem.

Well it being black history month is reminding me how I wanted to doodle something like this down for a while. Since it’s been a lil detail I always take notice of in drawings. These are very simple depictions but I hope it’s enough to give the general idea! Feel free to reblog

Third row is an aged, finished scar. Burns are marbled in look. They're darker than the skin tone. Last row shows how a fully or nearly fully healed scar, it's lightly visible but still darker than skin tone. Right illustration is a torso with scars with a diagonal cut to show the difference between left and right side. Left has pink light scars, healing? Or just an oversight? Right has darker colored scars. Normal. Same applies to top surgery scars. For recent surgeries that alter the areola, it is pink as it heals (nipples are pigmented on dark skin btw so it’s a weird look) After full care and recovery they’ll look normal (dark).
