Viv made alistor black retroactively I think just to shut up people saying its racist over him using voodoo. When she could have just reminded people he's a serial killer cannibal who sold his soul to a evil demon for purely self serving reasons. He's evil. He's in hell. He's from the south during the jim crow era. He's not gonna give a shit about the moral or ethical concerns over using vodou. He sees a potential source of power he can exploit and that's all he cares about. But doing so would make it harder for people to justify liking him or whatever. Kinda like how angel dust in the pilot was clearly a selfish a hole and a terrible person instead of a pure victim he is now.
You see, THAT would help reinforce to people how vile this character is supposed to be and someone who CLEARLY deserves to be in Hell. And him getting knocked down a peg would feel more earned and satisfying.
Vivzie refusing to go all out on making these characters absolutely horrible people learning to be better is what's holding the premise of the show back, they're more soft-bad. We're TOLD they're horrible people but we never get any that isn't cringy, forced, corny, or eventually woobified because the writers got attached to certain characters.
If you're going to write a show placed in Hell, make the citizens and the more antagonistic characters the evil and horrible people they are instead of just soft-edgy.
I never got how Alastor was black/black coded, he never did as a black woman myself. Never watched any of Vivzieâs garbage but her âblackâ characters always felt like she just called them black for easy brownie points and not cause she actually cares and bothers to make a good black character.
Alastor always read to me as a white man, him being black felt forced to me. Nothing about him feels black/black coded.
A while back during one of Vivzie's streams she DID draw a human alastor.
Definitely not a good look considering what she's done to this character in Season 2, and like you said, feeling like she only made him black for brownie points. Not because him being black would add on to his character and provide more nuance and depth to his story, but because people got onto her for having him use voodoo magic even though it's a closed practice.
Now him being black CAN work, it's just the way Vivzie and the writers wrote and handled it is what ruins it in the show.
(Big thanks to @sippedtiredness1058 for providing the screenshot on where to find this info.)
Are we deadass?
No seriously, ARE. We deadass?
Then why even make him ace if you're not really gonna respect the orientation? (Not to say she has before considering the MANY poses she and Spindlehorse had Alastor in during Season 2...)
I know it's gonna be Radioapple... I just know it is...
"We need more complex characters! We need more characters that're grey areas!"

Iâm not a show runner, nor am I a writer for TV shows, but I would think youâd want to come prepared regarding your showâs overall plot. Like even if you think you wonât make it past one season, you still have some more material on standby just in case you DO get greenlit for more seasons.
Viv really shouldâve had a plan going in so that it doesnât seem like sheâs constantly pulling stuff out of her ass when it comes to her shows.
This is why I believe she had nothing planned even though she had spent five years trying to get it off the ground.
You would think she would've had the story figured out by then, and you would think even if she only got one season, she would try to make it the best season ever and not just put all her eggs in the basket.
Shows like TADC, Gravity Falls, and Avatar are able to stand as great shows because the story feels planned out. There was foreshadowing and moments that made sense, and when it got to the ending it felt earned.
And whatever ending Hazbin Hotel has, it most likely won't feel earned or satisfying.
With Vaggie being the hotelâs protector and Lucifer mending things with Charlie in âMore Than Anythingâ Alastorâs existence has become so obsolete that season two has to bend over backwards by making everyone dumb so Vox can be a threat to justify Alastor being important in the finale of the season because heâs no longer the reason Husk and Niffty want to stay and work at the hotel as evidenced by them wanting to stay behind and protect it in season 1, episode 7 despite Vaggie giving them an out before she came back with the angelic steel weapons, he now feels like those memes you see about people trying to shoehorn their OCs in a series they donât fit in.
This perfectly explains how I felt after seeing Episode 4 of Season 2, at this point Alastor's purpose and role in the story is now null because of Lucifer coming into the picture. Vaggie is so-so since he was the one protecting the hotel more than she ever did.
At this point, considering they didn't even bother to try and rescue him from Vox if they're supposed to be a found family, he should've been like "Fuck all y'all" and become a full villain.
He could be a villain to call out the cast on their hypocrisy and double standards on things, have them realize they're not as close as they act and how often they fail each other. Just something to give him that bite back that's been missing since the Pilot days.
Pans in Helluva, a rapist, annoying character that should stay dead, and Blitz.
As someone who used to identify as Pan before realizing I was actually Demi, it is annoying to see.
Vivzie for some reason sees being Pan as the same as being hypersexual, which is NOT even close to what being Pan is actually like. Now I am not saying that Pan people can't experience hypersexuality, but the way it's portrayed in these shows just comes off as in poor taste in how often it happens.
The following characters that are Pan are: Blitz, Valentino, Verosika, Ozzie, and of course Chaz. And what do these characters have in common? They're sex fiends or someone whose occupation revolves around having a lot of sex.
Now to be fair, not ALL the Pan characters are like this (Husk, Lucifer and Bee aren't shown to be that overly sexual.) But it still doesn't erase how they're outnumbered by the characters who openly express how much they wanna bone people or are associated with the act.
And no, I'm not shaming anyone who happens to be Pan and are overtly sexual. I'm just saying in context of the Pan representation and how it portrays people who happen to be Pan, I think it's in poor taste to show Pan people this way and they deserve better than this.
Finished designing a possible cast for Calling All Villains. Their names are as follows after Mr. Puzzles.
Nina Ms. Shade Professor Cranium Bone Drone Wester
Backstories coming soon.
(This is NOT the official cast, this is fanmade and was made for fun.)
... This synopsis has made me afraid for what direction they might take for Puzzles' character.
Because judging from what happened in WOTFI 2025, one would assume he succeeded in changing for the better at the end. But this relapse would make Mr. Puzzles' ENTIRE arc in SMG4 feel redundant and like it barely mattered at all.
Now I can see this relapse working if he's gonna be made into an Anti Hero of sorts. Someone who does bad things to be considered a villain to most people, but is doing them for the right reasons. That way you can have him and whoever joins him do villainous shenanigans without it feeling like you're resetting his character back to square one.
Maybe this feeling will change once a full trailer releases to get an understanding of what to expect, I just hope I'm wrong about this.

Is it me, or does Vivienne have a weird attachment to Valentino and that's why she keeps shoving him down our throats?
Him being the big bad of season 3 doesn't even make any sense. Even if we argue that Angel is getting focus, why is his abuser the central villain to the entire season? Especially because season 2 tried its hardest to make Val look dumb and incompetent. Shouldn't he solely be Angel's villain while the rest of the cast deal with, idk, Lute?
(Seriously they already did Lute dirty in season 2 now they're choosing to make Val the big bad instead of her?)
I don't know if Viv genuinely loves Valentino that much or if this is a middle finger to the fans and critics who hate his guts and have questioned her handling of him
The way they handled Valentino is very contradictive.
First he's an antagonist to Angel and his path to redemption, then he's just a himbo who doesn't know what consent means, and now he's the main villain for Season 3. It's so wishy washy.
What's even worse is that the creators themselves don't seem all that interested in making him an actual threat and realistic depiction of an abuser, there's a director's commentary of Vivzie and a few others where at some point they're like "Oh he doesn't know what consent means! He's such an dumbass, but he's our dumbass. đ"
And let me make something clear, it IS possible to write a character who's meant to be an abuser act nice and whatnot. If it's meant to be a front to keep people from suspecting his abusive nature and not believe Angel when he tries telling someone about it.
But that isn't what's happening, it's just pure woobification.
Okay now that the finaleâs aired, I can FINALLY say what Iâve been wanting to say since seeing it in theaters.
Spoilers of course.
The only good thing I can say about Vox is that Christian borle performance was the best part of season 2. I like some of his songs, I didnât like brighter. Other than that Vox sucks as a villain. He gets two backstory and theyâre both bad. His a shy school boy confessing to his crush and because Alastor didnât wanna give him back shots and he made it everyoneâs problem. Hey writers, I donât know who rejected you in highschool/SVA but itâs not the most âbrutalâ backstory you think it is and itâs not the worst thing a person can do to you.
Vox was a weather boy who killed his way to the top, instead of using the media to twist and manipulate the zeitgeist into joining his cult/program or whatever he was doing. Hey writers, maybe next time show us Vox being manipulative and charismatic instead of him just killing people and saying âheâs so complex and multifaceted!â
Vox wins because everyone is so stupid, they let him win and Angel just gives him a cheat code that Lucifer canât hurt him. Charlie and Lucifer are frauds, that Iâm surprised sinners didnât revolt against them and decide to just kill them, especially since Lucifer canât hurt them. Why even have a hierarchy if the king and princess are powerless and weak and the queen went awol for 7 years? But Vox canât be smarter then alastor, alastor is the special golden boy he has to be 10 steps ahead, heâs playing 3d chess while Vox is playing checkers even though he didnât do shit in the cuck chair, didnât even plant the seeds of doubt and betrayal to the vees. Everything just went âaccording to planâ
The two backstories they gave Vox in Season 2 just doesn't mesh well at all. The Vox we see in the Episode 4 flashback is a completely different character from Vox in the Episode 7 flashback.
Because from what Episode 7 showed us, Alastor made the right call in refusing that partnership because if he did accepted, it probably would've been a matter of time before Vox backstabbed and screwed him over when he saw no more use for him. Yet this clashes with Episode 4 because we don't get enough of Alastor and Vox's past relationship to understand why Vox would act that way at all.
And this is where having only 8 episodes per season hurts the show. Because of how little time there is to get through everything Vivzie and the team wanted to cram in, we don't get enough of the characters to understand their motives, actions and emotions. It all feels disjointed and fragmented, like clearly there's something missing from these scenes but they had to cut it out because of time and budget.
And that last part is exactly why I can't say Vox is a good villain, everything just falls into his lap without having to lift a finger. I'm also surprised Lucifer and Charlie still has their status and recourses with how pathetic they are as rulers, as you would think an uprising would've happened a long time ago. Hell should be in a constant war against Demons wanting the crown and title for themselves.
This is why I don't believe Vivzie when she says she had this story planned out for a while.
I refuse to believe Vaggie had no problem killing her fellow exorcists especially one that was traumatized and abused and Vaggie was caring for but had an issue with killing one child sinner. You can argue that sinner probably reminded her of the other exorcist girl that was smacked around, but for her to be excited and gloating about stabbing exorcists she knows are all just traumatized is far fetched. The writing doesnât make sense for Vaggie or any of the other characters for that matter
This just further proves that they never had a proper story planned for Vaggie when it was time for the show to be made. And I never really liked that flashback they added in Season 2 as it was only made to make Vaggie look sympathetic without any actual effort and it contradicts what we've seen before.
In fact, Vaggie is probably the most confusing character in terms of what Vivzie and the team wanted to do with her. she had SO MANY design changes.
And flip flopping in terms of personality and what she's supposed to be. You would think with a character that hard to figure out they would either put her in the back burner until they can come up with something concrete for her, or just cut her out entirely if they couldn't find a way to make her work in the story.
And I know this is probably gonna sound mean, but I wish they just cut her out entirely and gave her moments to the other characters to flesh them out better. Because as much as you want to include every idea you think of, sometimes you'll need to cut them out so the story can flow better and other characters can get equal development.
The reason why Charlie canât grow as a character, is because no one on the main cast cares enough to tell her, sheâs fucking up. Or worst the writers, isolate Charlie from the main cast and the only person allowed to interact with Charlie is Vaggi. They donât even act like friends or a found family. Husk and Cherri stick around because of angel, alastor is more interested in power, Lucifer has a hate boner for alastor that it prevents him from actually being a father to Charlie, nifty is attached to the hip with Baxter. Leaving Vaggi as the one person for Charlie to talk to.
Theyâre just people who are forced to hang around eachother because of circumstances. The one person who does tell Charlie anything also doesnât let her take accountability for her action. Twice, Vaggi has told Charlie âitâs ok, you donât need to apologize. you did so muchâ when Charlie hasnât done anything but cry and mess everything up, but somehow still wins in the end. The times Charlie actually has breakthrough and lets her vulnerability out, Vaggi cuts her off and tells how great she is and kisses/has sex and say âour love is strong enoughâ when itâs been shown over and over again that itâs not. This is unhealthy codependency and the reason WHY theyâre together. Because they have no else in their lives.
Charlie doesnât listen or respect Vaggi enough to take her advice and Vaggi doesnât take Charlie seriously enough to listen to her problems, or let her do anything so she mothers Charlie, tells her sheâs fucking up but then turns around and say âitâs not your faultâ
Vaggi couldâve been an interesting character. She was an angel and killed sinners and you would think wouldâve had consequences in the show or brought up by Vox in season 2 but instead itâs brushed off and she doesnât have to take accountability for her actions. It was used as forced melodrama for Charlie and Vaggieâs relationship which that didnât matter because Rosie just tells Charlie to âforgive her for fucking up because her actions matteredâ rosie is totally not Lilith.
Thereâs Emily, who is actually a better friend for Charlie because unlike Vaggi, Emily actually grows and learns as a character. It no surprise she was the fan favorite this season because emily learns from her mistakes, she risked her life to save alastor and initiated the care bear stare friendship beam to stop the nuke.
It's really hard to take the scenes of them working together seriously because of the fact that they barely interact with each other and are often seen fighting a clashing most of the time.
"Vaggi couldâve been an interesting character. She was an angel and killed sinners and you would think wouldâve had consequences in the show or brought up by Vox in season 2" That basically sums up the better alternative writing route for how they could've approached Vox in Season 2. He should've had PILES of evidence against Charlie and the crew for why their methods are more harm and self-fulfilling than they claim to be.
He could've used Vaggie being an exorcist to paint Charlie as a hypocrite for claiming to wanting to stop the exterminations, yet is dating their best soldier that killed hundreds if not thousands of her people. He could've used footage he got from the last extermination to show Hell how Charlie can't fight for anyone and had to rely on others to fight HER battles, asking the citizens if they really want to put their trust and faith in someone who won't actually fight back. He could even use the cannibals as proof that even she isn't immune to using dirty tactics and is no better than the sinners that does bad things.
ANYTHING that could provide a form of self reflection and make Charlie change her approach and tactics. Because CLEARLY the characters that're supposed to be her "friends and girlfriend" don't care enough to try and make her see light themselves.
And to end things off, it's also because they chose to make Charlie and Vaggie not human so they can make these two into whatever they need for the plot. And because of that, they don't really have a clue on how to redeem people and make them look like the worst people to run the hotel.

A ship I used to like in the pilot days. This was before knowing the sexuality of them. But Charlie x Angel (The moment in Addict) also the idea of abused SA sex worker, and kind-hearted princess that would throw hands if need be (Miss you pilot Charlie) and also how the people in hell would react to a princess dating a sex worker. And other ship was Cherri x Vaggie. The nonsense, rule follower, that has no time for foolishness and the rule breaking, party throwing bad girl.
Honestly these ships sound way better than what we ended up with.
Angel x Charlie I can get behind if written well. I believe Charlie dating a sex worker would hold more narrative weight in terms of status, since no one seems to care about her dating someone that used to be part of the exorcist army.
And Cherri x Vaggie I can see working out more. Cherri teaches Vaggie how to let loose and have fun, while Vaggie could be a positive influence in NOT indulging as much as she does.
So I'm planning to make a post about the issues with deal between Rosie and Alastor.
And while I do have issues with it I would like to know what are everyone's else's issues.
So what are your issues with it?
My issue with it is how it completely ruined Rosie and Alastor's character in the process.
The Rosie in Season 2 is NOTHING like the Rosie in Season 1, this is a completely different character from what we've seen of her before. And to make this worse, there was ZERO hint, foreshadowing, or indication that Rosie owning his soul was a possibility. And I'm not saying she CAN'T be racist or this way, but there was nothing in the previous season to foreshadow this side of her.
Oh and Alastor... This just proves how all over the place his writing is. His backstory doesn't make all that sense and ignores how harsh it was to be a POC in those times just for it to happen. It just shows a lack of research and respect for the time period he came from, and the deal he made just makes him look weak. why couldn't it have been a deal to become a radio show host? Or to get revenge on those that looked down on him because of his race? Just SOMETHING that shows how harsh the time period was.
And that isn't even going into how blatantly racist this dynamic is written to be along with the song Don't You Forget.
