Liam Payne is dead wtf is today
every statement is like being hit over the head again. i hate that everyone is going through this
In light of Liam's passing, I'd like to take you all back to an interview he did on "Diary of a CEO" in 2021, in which he shares how his problems with alcohol began. He talks about how the band became so big to the point that, to protect the boys and ensure their safety, security and management had to keep them locked away in their hotel rooms. To fight the endless boredom this resulted in, Liam turned to the hotel room's mini fridge and subsequently - alcohol.
Now, as a Directioner, I can honestly say that Liam, the dad of the group, having such issues, was never something that occured to me or was apparent back then. Yes, when he became of age, he started going out to clubs and partying, but that it went beyond that is something that was completely lost on me.
All this to say - being in the public eye isn't easy, and it's safe to say that if these issues began due to being cooped up in his hotel room so as not to cause stampedes or cause hysteria, then I'm certain many other celebrities are going through or have gone through the same thing as him.
That being said, I am begging you, as exciting as it may be, if you see your favorite celebrity out in public, wave, smile, go about your day and keep cherish meeting in your heart.
We have to do better as fans and remind ourselves that underneath all this glitz and glamour are normal people who just want to exist as such, not be mobbed every time they dare to show their nose outside. Many people say that once you make the choice to pursue fame, you have to be prepared for all that this entails, including your fans' behavior. I disagree.
I think we, as fans of theirs, need to redefine what "celebrity" means, through our reactions and behavior. We have to stop being selfish and allow these people to exist normally without imposing ourselves on them and feeling entitled to their time just because they decided to share a part of themselves with us.
Hard as it may be, I think it's worth it, as long as nobody else suffers the tragic fate that Liam did.

as nauseatingly sad as it’s making me, i also think it’s so so beautiful that people from all different walks of life are holding memorials and tributes for liam. it’s always been one of my favorite things about the band—the way they touched people in every corner of the world. liam was always so curious and so respectful of different cultures, different places. and now fans are mourning him in different ways, making space for him in their culture and tradition. i do think he would have loved that and i’m sure it’s a comfort to his family. it’s not going to change anything but it must make them immeasurably proud to see how good their liam was, how many lives he touched and how many people he made happy. it’s very bittersweet
Liam's sister Nicola's message regarding Liam 🕊❤️
louis and zayn having a similar kind of tribute post where they spoke about nostalgia and wanting to say goodbye to liam and hugging him and just getting to say i love you and them posting at the same time and then niall and harry having a similar post where they celrbrated liam and his presence in life. this is just so heartbreaking to think because it's such a personal thing and yet it's a shared grief. no one apart from these boys will ever be able to understand this kind of grief and the memories they shared. none of them had to go public with their grief and yet they did in order to not just honour liam but also to alleviate the community that they all built together. i can not even imagine what they must be going through, but looking at the posts and their words i'm at least comforted in the knowledge that they're together and they have each other in this fragmented life

Liam Payne Memorial at Hyde Park in London at the Peter Pan Statue.
i feel so so awful for zayn, but i am so glad he is not trying to power through this and is taking the time to grieve before putting himself in such a stressful situation like touring, especially his first solo tour ever. i am sending him all my love.
Julian Bunetta, 1D's producer from 2013 to 2015 regarding Liam
Just realized that zayn said yes to being part of a one direction statement. it’s been a minute.

Listening to the UK media about the coming together as fans, it’s as if the last fourteen years haven’t happened, apparently everyone is still very young, female and this probably be the first time they have encountered someone dying. It’s as if ‘Directioners’ (their word) were in stasis, but like Simon Cowell’s face we have all changed with the exception of the Media who still seem stuck in the 2010’s.
lol this gave me a giggle. and yeah...one thing that will always annoy me is the erasure of the older fans and the media belief that every fan is permanently 10 years old. while I HAVE noticed a definite younger crowd (the most startling was at the last louis' shows), even the OG fans who were kids for 1D would be in their 20s now.
i don't know why this is a uniquely 1d thing. even the media acknowledges Nysnc and BSB fans are middle aged now....it's so odd. (but also to be fair, when I saw some of the memorial pics from yesterday a lot of the fans DO look young....but maybe that's because I'm an old lady now lol (or the fans most likely to attend these memorials are younger in general)
"Its possible to acknowledge he's a bad person and be saddened by-" dude he's dead. He died violently and suddenly and it was probably awful the entire time. A guy died. Stop turning everything into how you have the morally superior take. A guy DIED in a TERRIBLE way. Now is not the fucking time to go "erm acshtually he did xyz" or disclaimer everything with how you Don't Support Him. You don't need to say that about someone who just died in a violent and painful way. You don't need to turn someone's death into that. The guy has friends and family who can see that shit, be quiet if you can't keep that to yourself.
Besides, he was only 31. If you think someone is finished cooking at 31 you have a big storm coming. You don't know the kind of person he would've become if he had the chance to actually live his life instead of just the beginning of it.
Don't turn someone's DEATH into how your opinion of him is the most morally pure one on the internet. He wasn't a war criminal, he was a boy band member who got internationally mega-famous when he could barely even legally drink
