ᴅᴇᴛᴇᴄᴛɪᴠᴇ ᴄᴀɪɴ.

“ --------- i don’t  like  punching people. ”       maybe not an outright  LIE , but it’s not like she’s actually fooling anyone. which becomes very obvious when she follows skulduggery to the bentley despite her protest. ( it was nice to try and remain on her high horse for as long as could get away with it, at least. show good intentions, or somethig like that. )

     then, a little more quietly:  “ i’m just not completely opposed to the idea. ”

                   “Oh         well, it is. As it happens, I do have a permit     “

     She certainly did not have any thing of that sort. It seemed rather obvious, dark hood drawn over her head, heavy boots, the way her shoulders were raised, a surprise stuck in between her spine. It couldn’t be any more clear that she did not have any allowance to be here than this, yet she relied on her (barely excisting) talent for improvised acting. Fumbling rather awkwardly with the zip of her bag, as if to retrieve some kind of permit from its depth, a nervous smile showed on her lips. “Just wait, I have it somewhere in here         “ 

           valkyrie had to bite her lip to hide a grin ------  the excuse had  civilian written all over it, but then again, she’d been much the same when she’d just started out.  ( rookie mistake  ------  when you notice whoever’s asking questions won’t let you pass, you knock them out. simple. )  still, she couldn’t just let a stranger  ( and mortal, as far as she could tell )  wander around her on her possibly still dangerous crime scene.

‘  i’m TELLIN’ YOU !  ’     he’s bouncing up and down on his toes excitedly  ,   like a child who has had far too much  SUGAR .      ‘   it’s a conspiracy, i swear !  ’   his eyes are   a little too  bright and his hands drum on any surface they rest against. 

‘skulduggery   was one o‘ the guys in the spooky scary skeletons vid !    they made him into a cartoon ‘n stuff with   maagic   and skul’s too embarrassed to say anything about it !   ’

              given, she hasn’t eaten even remotely as much of that weird american candy as larrikin has, but excitement  ------  and craziness  ------  is contagious.    “ i  knew  it. ”  of course she doesn’t, in fact, actually know that  ( nor believe it, really )  but she does know skulduggery’s reaction.                or can guess it very accurately, at least.                            they’d have to put that theory to test.

  he looks at her for a long, long  moment, and then gives up, sighing instead.                 “   and WHERE , exactly ,                                         did you manage to acquire this … tea maker, valkyrie ?   ”         upon closer inspection, the device resembles one of Kenspecle Grouse’s famed early inventions, and that thought alone is enough to fill him with dread          he’d met the young(?) Grouse when he himself was a boy, and by god was that man terrifying. not to mention the REMNANTS.        “   actually , stop. i don’t want to know.                                          speaking of TEA , let’s have some instead. ”      

(   he’s more of a coffee person in all honesty, but he honestly does not want to threaten his life by getting too involved with skuldggery’s moronic shenanigans   )

          she purses her lips for a short moment, but then nods  &  smirks lightly                     ------------  without ever taking her eyes off the device.

“  g r e a t   idea. ”

                    &  truth be told, she’s kind of glad she doesn’t have to recount the particular circumstances that lead to her aquiring this  t h i n g ,  anyway. there was a lot of throwing  ( or rather being thrown )  & falling  &  crashing,  &  general events that would earn her nothing but a disapproving glare. the important part is that, when she’d picked it up, it started ticking.

tea makers don’t tick, normally.  &  possible small bombs are not allowed to tick.

   ( she’d told it so  ------  albeit with a lot more swearing involved  ------  while randomly turning its wheels,  &  then it had stopped. until she’d kept turning, at least. it had been an interesting past few hours. )

                    right now, it would appear she’s found another setting that turns it off                     ------------  at least it doesn’t tick now. so she  g e n t l y  places it on                                      the table in front of her  &  then finally looks up at anton,                                      masking her relief with rather exaggerated  p r i d e   &                                      praying it would stay a tiny, innocent, potential tea maker.
