i think iāve known you in other lives because when i look into the black of your eyes i donāt see fate or light, i see the residue of a winter that never ended, i feel collision, memory slamming into memory, something old and unfinished waking up irritated, half-starved, because when i feel your gaze settle on me i remember a time when we were two trees growing too close in bad soil, roots knitted together beneath frozen ground, bark split, thorns tearing at the same wounds, choking each other slowly, bending and bowing not out of tenderness but habit, draining each other just to remain upright, because when i touch your flushed cheeks iām reminded of two insects trapped under a rotting floor, heat thickening, dirt pressed into our joints, legs twitching, air thinning, dying slowly yet still knotting ourselves tighter, refusing separation even as the body begins to fail, surviving longer together only because decay makes cowards of us, because when i feel your lips i think of two animals tearing into each other alive, carving and being carved, unable to tell where hunger ends and passion begins, slick with blood we insist belongs to love, wearing the damage like proof of participation, because when i loop my arms around your neck i hear an old echo of us, one where we were feral spirits running in circles just to outrun extinction, laughing too loudly in deathās face becauseĀ we knew it was already inside us, because when i press myself into you i know this has happened before, not once but endlessly, relentlessly, that iāve been you and youāve been me across a thousand ruined timelines, because nothing else explains how i already knew the exact shape youād leave in my body, how your laughter would haunt and warm my rooms at the same time, how your dreams would infest mine, how your wants would graft themselves onto me, how you would feel less like a home and more like a place i was always meant to dissolve in.
