As most have heard, Jennifer suffered a heart attack over the weekend. At such a young age, no one could have expected something this incredibly crippling could have come at this time. Ever the fighter, but also human, she perseveres and heals as best as she can, with amazing doctors and nurses at her side. But here's the scary part. She has no insurance currently. This attack came from a hereditary standpoint but she still has and will make the appropriate life changes so this scare stays exactly what it is. A scare. The fact remains that she will have to be on very specific heart medication, and I heard the nurse herself. "You don't take or miss a dose of this, and it will be fatal." Her meds alone will be $100 a month. She has to see a follow up doctor for crucial follow ups and because of how much she makes, cannot qualify for medical assistance. She is ordered to not go back to work for three weeks, and already she is talking about how she cannot afford to NOT go back to work. If that sounds insane, then help us do something about it. Regardless of who we are, and how we know each other at this point, only one thing is certain. This is something we can help with. Jennifer and I co-parent together, and regardless of the past, I am one of the few lucky ones that has developed and maintained a healthy relationship with an ex. Part of that is through patience, understanding, and a call to a greater good on her part. Few to no one will mean as much to me as this woman, and I suspect if you read this far you feel the same way. She has a tough road ahead. Family is there. Friends are there. Prayers are in abundance. But money is the best way to keep her at peace of mind, sleeping well, recovering fine, knowing she can actually pay for the disgustingly marked up price of follow up appointments, and daily meds that will most likely last a year.
