saying that white people don’t have a culture has the unintended consequence of affirming the white/european subject as the default. by framing whiteness as cultureless, one frames whiteness as the substance that exists in humans once you peel back cultural expression. this is obviously an erroneous conclusion. whites obviously have a culture. the point is that white culture is totally framed around its exclusivity and aims to dominate cultures that are deemed non-white. without acknowledging this, explorations of islamophobia, antisemitism, orientalism, and anti-blackness have no sufficient context. white culture exists which means it takes material form through oppression, but this grants us the knowledge that white culture is historical: it can be changed and/or dismantled.
