(Mostly making this post as a reminder for myself, honestly.)

1. Untitled Smeargle-focused Pokemon AU fanfic

POV a Smeargle who becomes pen-pals with a Pokemon professor

Set in the Unova region

Has a twist early on about why the Smeargle is so weird compared to other Smeargle

Fan-made Smeargle baby evo & final evo (will never happen because an evolved Smeargle would likely be broken as heck)

This one will be pretty long. Novel-length, most likely. I have SO MANY plot threads.

2. You Who Hold My Remains (Zelda TotK AU fanfic)

POV Link near the end of his quest

Features what is effectively a mix between a sixth sage quest and the Breath of the Wild DLC quests

Focuses on the Ancient Hero's Aspect and tries to provide more context on who/what he even is

Should be relatively short. Maybe seven chapters?

3. Untitled Amy-focused Sonic AU fanfic

POV Amelia "Amy" Rose the Hedgehog

Eggman has already taken over the world and has the 8 Emeralds. Miles is his adopted son and Sonic has been roboticized.

Has multiple plot twists regarding both Amy's backstory and Project Shadow.

Currently trying to come up with a plot structure and I basically just keep making it a world-spanning quest to take back the Chaos Emeralds (which are placed in strategic locations around the globe that JUST SO HAPPEN to be locations from the games because I want a reason for Amy to go places). LOL

Something neuroscience-y that helps with prose: attention is selective. A character will not notice everything in a room. They will notice what matters to their goal, fear, desire, training, wound, or obsession. A jealous character notices hands. a hungry character notices food. A soldier notices exits. A lonely character notices pairs. Description becomes character when attention has a bias.

A big criticism in the writing sphere right now is characters talking too much like they've all been to therapy. I definitely get where its coming from in some cases, like I don't know why medieval knights would have that kind of vocab or emotional intelligence.

However one of the things I set out to do with this comic specifically was writing characters who have interactions like me and my friends. Personally I've been to weekly therapy since age 13. 🫣 I think I have every right to write characters who have as well. I want healthy communication!! I want people who love each other and work towards a shared goal of being happy together!! I think there's a ton of interesting scenarios that can come from that!!

If that's not the kind of story you're looking for, this is a great time to hop off the comic. This chapter is very much a sign of what's to come. I'm having a really good time writing this comic to fit my vision, and don't plan on changing it due to current industry pressures.
