-my take is Beej’s mom was a human that made a deal with a demon overlord (which led to her overseeing Netherworld Processing offices) and in exchange she had to give him an heir. So Beej is half dead-human-turned-demon and half full demon, which is why he refers to himself as both a demon and a dead guy. All that to say, daddy’s latent demon genes are kicking in and he’s about to go through second puberty.

Heh. It's relatively simple and has no basis in canon besides his demon/dead guy schtick and the fact that his mom is the fucking worst. The idea is: Juno has some kind of terminal illness or injury. She brokers with a demon, who can't save her but CAN give her a seat of power in the afterlife...for a price. Demon asks for her soul and the soul of her firstborn, she says, "Bet." And just fuckin. Mercs BJ. Then kills herself to save herself suffering, or whatever bullshit.

Turns out "seat of power" is more "middle management forever", but at least she has demon powers now? Except so does BJ, and he is annoying as fuck about it, because of course he is, his own mother killed him. Eventually she banishes him to the living world, but because he isn't quite a ghost and isn't entirely a demon, he can't interact with anything. Rules of both, downsides of both, but also phenomenal cosmic power.

Tl;dr, I just like making Juno as monstrous as possible.

Okay wait that is SO COOL. I kinda wish I'd thought of that actually. Trying to figure out the logistics of how BJ is dead and a demon and also (based on the context of the musical) very much has not been alive before is super tricky. Really all comes back to his dad being a key factor in mucking it all up.

From a narrative standpoint I really love how hard they had to tie BJ's hands because he is so powerful but he just has... no idea what to do with that power in a way that would actually benefit him.

"Closure" || There's absolutely no way the show has the time or even the want to delve into the dynamic they've set up between these two but it could be such a good one.

I have many, many, many grievances with this darned show but every now and then it throws a nugget my way that I literally can't stop thinking about and Abel grappling with what has to be incredibly complex emotions about his own father's death paired with Lute's blindly, devoted idolatry is one of those nuggets. Yum.

What if you retain your human form in Heaven?

Originally I thought the whole thing with freaky, cumbersome, and probably physically taxing sinner forms was a consequence of being in hell, but s1 and s2 confirmed no, that's just what happens when you die. I'm on the fence about whether I like it more or less, because on one hand, getting to be a human again feels like a perk of Heaven (and like... the angels are all human? And Abel?) but on the other hand, Pentious's sinner/winner design is lovely and I think it would be weird if he was just a totally different form.

Are there any fun plot details that you've had that you're not sure would fit well in the AU? Any cut material?

Oooh this is a fun question! There's probably a lot of little moments and scenes that I've forgotten by this point just because I didn't put them into any art up until this point (since this is kind of just an ongoing project of brain rot) but the biggest ones I can think of are...

Originally, Warwick (the villain of the 1st season) sends out bounty hunters to kill Beej, and Westwood (the big red joker there) was a much bigger character. I'm not really sure if he's still part of the story since Warwick's plan changed from employing bounty hunters to employing a bunch of Beej's exes to psychologically torture him until they could kill him and bring Lydia to Warwick.

Also, this used to be the original plot of s2, in which Beej tried to pull Lydia back after seeing how much he enabled her self-destructive behaviors, but that got scrapped once I figured out how to incorporate Juno's backsassing leg and more parental issues for BJ.
