INTRO POST
This is a digital altar I started when I was 16 and unable to have a physical one. I still don't have a physical one (bad economy, worse parents) and know that I'm in school, I actually know how to do academic research (and have the money to buy books rather than trying to find PDFs), so I would like to sort of restart this blog. I probably won't be super active, but if you have any pressing questions for me, my main blog is @not-deadsummer and I'm much more active over there.

Medieval book transport
You are looking at two ‘wraps’ (top), the outside and inside of a box (middle), and a leather satchel (bottom). What they share is not just their old age (they are all medieval), but also the purpose for which they were made: to transport a book from A to B. The actual reason for transporting books in these objects varied considerably. The wraps are late-medieval girdle books, which were hanged from the owner’s belt by the knot. The text inside - which was often of legal or religious nature - could be consulted quickly and easily: just unwrap it and read. The box (and the ninth-century book inside) had a more exotic use: the package functioned as a charm for good luck on the battlefield, where it was carried in front of the troops by a monk. The satchel, which also dates from the ninth century, was just a bag to transport a book while on the go - it was popular among monks. A Prayer for Aphrodite’s Guidance
O gracious Goddess, born beautifully of the sea, loving Aphrodite, hear my prayer.
As I walk my path of life I listen for your guidance.
I ask that you aid me in allowing my heart to navigate the waters, keeping Beauty as my sail and Love as my compass.
When the waters should churn and a storm should cross the seas,
Help love to remain with me, and I can overcome any adversity.
When my chest grows warm and the sunlight bounces off the water, sparkling like your watchful eyes, I will know that your Love has guided me.
I cherish your patient guidance as I learn to love myself, and walk with Love each day.
Thank you for giving me the tools to navigate my path, and empowering to me emulate the divine Love that you bear.

How her role of "goddess of beauty" was seen before?
As far as I know, this self-love, etc., is something modern, because in ancient times, people wanted Aphrodite's help for persuasion, not really for "beauty"

Kypris's role as a goddess of beauty stems utterly from her sovereignty over the sphere of seduction.
In ancient Greece, beauty and desirability were inextricable, and part of the song and dance of seducing someone was making yourself look as beautiful as possible (hos kallista) to beguile them. To do this, women would anoint their bodies with oils and perfumes, adorn themselves with ostentatious jewelry, and sport their most beautiful gowns, all under the auspices of the goddess (like how she helps Hera beautify herself in Book 14 of the Iliad).
