Oooh girl I’m so glad you posted this I am so tired of yt folk from liberal states acting like they didn’t own slaves too

Happy fifth of July/Emancipation day! Did you know that NY has its own Juneteenth/jubilee day? As a descendant of those enslaved in NY, I encourage people to learn about the history of slavery and antiblackness within the state. A lot of injustices that happened here have been erased from history, meaning it’s of the utmost importance that we learn about these atrocities so they’ll never be forgotten. Some topics I recommend learning about are the historical black neighborhood that ended up erased and is now known as Central Park. I’d also rec learning about how the Bronx zoo displayed living human beings along with the history of human zoos in general. There’s also the topic of red-lining and other policies which kept NY heavily segregated, plus the topic of slave revolts within NY, along with the history of NY slave markets.(Which yes Wall Street was). Today, is a day of both celebration and mourning, so while we reflect let’s not forget those who fought for us and continue their fight for Justice and equality.
