Memento mori (Latin for ‘remember that you [have to] die’) is an artistic or symbolic reminder of the inevitability of death. The concept has its roots in the philosophers of classical antiquity, and appeared in funeral art and architecture of the medieval period. Memento mori jewelry with skull or coffin motifs became popular in the late 16th century, and it was reflected in the artistic genre of vanitas, where symbolic objects such as hourglasses and wilting flowers signified the impermanence of human life.

I have been thinking a lot about pain and suffering. I'm not a person of strong unwielding convictions, most often I find myself swayed to view things as they are, a strange are of grey. There is one thing I beleive in very strongly though, aninatalism. The belief that birth is unethical. I could never understand how people willingly bring a thing into the world, because while living can have many joys it also has many pains. To know you'll inflict suffering and pain on another living being, unable to consent to it in any way I find quite horrid.
