Chapter 15

There is the sound of running water, and then Kylo reappears with a basin in one hand and his basket of bottles in the other. Rey frowns at him, confused.

“I thought we were having a shower.”

“We are.” Kylo sets the basin on the ground. It sloshes against the edges. And then he kneels.

"But –”

He lifts her legs as he slides the basin in front of her. Rey’s feet sink into the water, hot velvet that slips between her toes up to her ankles. She makes a soft noise of pleasure, and Kylo looks earnestly into her eyes. “Let me do this for you first.”

The hot water feels so good around her feet. She didn’t realize how much they were aching. She has been barefoot since she woke in the night to the sound of gunfire, padding down the corridors in her sleep clothes to answer her Alpha’s call. Her skin is hot, but the water is hotter, and somehow – it is not unpleasant.

Her dress was too tight.

That was definitely what the problem was.

It was certainly nothing to do with the fact she was about to go to her Alpha’s funeral.

She pulled again at the taut fabric of the skirt, the bodycon dress twisting awkwardly around her frame while she glared at herself in the full-length mirror of the walk-in closet. Was her outfit even appropriate? What if someone thought her skirt was too short, showing too much knee? What if she didn’t look suitably devastated enough? Although the bags under her eyes were more than adequate evidence that she’d barely slept since the news.

A light knock sounded at the bedroom door, Chewie standing dressed in his formal black suit and tie. His long hair was tied back neatly, his beard trimmed.

“The cars are here. Ready to go?” he asked gently. Rey shook her head, still staring at herself in the mirror. She wasn’t ready but what other choice did she have? It was happening whether she liked it or not.

“Let’s get this over with,”

I usually read around 30-40 fics a month, if not more, so this is a short selection!  There are many great writers out there, and I’m always happy to help people find more fics!
