I watched evil dead burn yesterday and got a lot of hyde thoughts. The golden eyes and the deeper timbre over Hunter's voice and I keep thinking of what if the Hyde was more of An Entity instead of just Tyler But Big And Grey (which i love, but explorning other ideas is fun).
So I wrote this little thingy. It doesn't have any outside context but I wanted to share the brainworms so. bon appetit.
They're standing a few feet apart, but she feels the room change, even if she can't pinpoint exactly what at first.
"Hello," Tyler says as he tilts his head, but his eyes are off. The angle is off. Everything is off.
"I'd like to speak to Tyler."
"Tyler isn't here right now." He says, a deeper voice layered on top of Tyler's, echoing supernaturally. His pupils are small, zeroed on her. "Why would you want that whimp, anyway?"
He takes a slow, measured step forward, watching her like the predator he is, his eyes wide and golden, almost glowing.
She's not afraid. "Be a good little Hyde and let me speak to Tyler."
Then, in a single second, he's in front of her, his hand around her throat and her back slammed into the wall. "You wound me, cockroach." He taunts as he raises her, her feet dangling off the ground before he licks a wet stripe up her cheek. "Am I not enough?"
She grimaces, but she's not afraid. She knows his game. "I'd put more respect on his name if I were you." She says defiantly, even as he presses down on her throat. "You're nothing without him."
His face contorts into a snarl. She struck a nerve. "As if that pathetic child has anything on me." The deeper voice echoes over Tyler's. "He was nothing before me."
"Is that what you tell yourself to compensate for how he's the one who fooled me?"
His snarl widens into a smirk. "Don't lie, cockroach. We both know who really made you stay in this hellhole town, and it wasn't the normie barista."
"Remind me again, Hyde, who was the one I kissed?"
He's angry, but doesn't spit out a retort like she expected, just, once again, tilts his head at an unnatural angle, his face close enough he probably thinks it would make her uncomfortable. It doesn't. "You really think you have the upper hand here, don't you?"
"Tyler wouldn't hurt me." There's not an ounce of hesitation in her statement.
"Wouldn't I?" The Hyde mimics his voice, but it's still not him. "You like your little world to be so black and white, but you forget— I'm still Tyler." A smile too full of teeth. "Just better."
"I'll admit, you are intriguing," She starts as he places her back on her feet— It's no fun to argue if she cannot choke out her words, after all, but he still doesn't let go. "But you forget your place. You'll never be better than him. This pathetic posturing does not fool me— At the end of the day, you're both two halves of the same scared boy."
"Scared, you say? Of what, you?"
"Of yourself." She says with finality. "Of never being enough for anyone to love."
It's evident he didn't expect that response, his frown dissolving into thinly veiled apprehension behind his hardened gaze. "You can't psychoanalyse me out of existence." The deeper voice snarls over his.
"Why would I?" She asks drily. "You said so yourself, you are part of Tyler. Why would I ever want to take his beast away from him?"
He seems satisfied with her response, but it looks like he doesn't know her as well as he thinks if he ever thought otherwise. "Very well."
He lets her go, and she can immediately tell Tyler is back. A shudder goes through his body before his face contorts into a grimace. "Ugh, fuck. I hate when he does that."
"Shove me to the backseat." He frowns at himself, as if trying to squirm away from the remains of the Hyde in his own limbs. "I can usually keep control, but sometimes he just shoves me back, and I just sit there watching him fuck up my life."
"You seemed plenty good at doing it yourself."
