Cellophane Nightmares

My partner in crime and I have been discussing that in the design field mid-life crises happen at the ripe age of 19...We sit by and watch our friends and peers get swept into their feilds of choice whilst we sit here scratching our heads and wondering where we went wrong. I feel as though the theory tumblr fame is closely related to the instant success of many.This crisis theory is most vindicated by the ubiquitous power of social media that did not exist in the past. A professor of mine always tells my class of her exploits in the 70's, rubbing elbows with Basquiat and Andy Warhol at Studio 54, which made networking a casual part of life. As social media obviously allows rapid access to marketing oppertunites it also seems only benifit people with internet fame....Now my question is, "what makes internet fame?" and where can I botttle some to sell retail price?

Good Camera+word of mouth=internet fame?

Average NY style+cute face= internet fame?

Ombre Hair+Dope Style = internet fame?

Internet fame can birth many opportunities, in the Fashion and Design Industries especially.. but how do I get some?!

I know I'm a talented designer but if I have no acclaim or following, how can I get my foot in the door?
