The past week has been fairly surreal. This city-state has made Manhattan look like a ghetto. Everybody from all walks of life, across all ethnicities, in every corner of this country have been so nice to me (N.B. when I'm not their customer!) There's something very special about their leadership and their people. A nation that gained independence less than 50 years ago - sit in a volatile region and left alone in a third-world state - had developed itself into a global financial, petrochemical, logistics and pharmaceutical hub. This is an experience that should be celebrated to the fullest extent. Happy birthday, Singapore.

They call the streets around the mosque as Bassorah (Basra?), Baghdad, Muscat and Kandahar - and yes, this is still Singaporean territory! :)
