My winner: Måneskin - ZITTI E BUONI

It’s Måneskin. What more do you want. No corsets or mesh v-necks here but the suits are nice and the performance is spot on, and Damiano’s little gesture when he wants to say cazzo made me laugh. Italy remains as my #1.

Biggest grower: Manizha - Russian Woman (& Ne ver’, ne boysia)

I LOVE this. Visually gorgeous, vocally gorgeous, I love the inclusion of Russia’s 2003 entry (and if you check the YouTube comments, it has t.A.T.u.’s stamp of approval). They’ll have to lose at least one of these performers in Rotterdam, but this is just so damn impressive. It’s time to seriously start thinking about the possibility of Russia hosting Eurovision again.

Let’s see what we’ve got...

First impressions: It lacks energy. The whole song felt like it was stuck in the first verse, like there’s no progression to a big finish or finale. So the result is a very lethargic and dull song that just kind of plods along like an overweight dog until it feels like stopping.

The only way to describe it is it feels like it’s meant to be endlessly looped to serve as music in a video game, it’s just kind of vaguely nice but not in a way that makes it stand out. But even then I’ve heard plenty of video game music that’s infinitely more interesting than this.

So it’s November 19th! Otherwise known as International Men’s Day! So please enjoy the ten gloriously good looking (solo) men who’ve won this contest over the years.
