I was willing to give this new Prince of Persia game a chance but that's not going to happen. Turns out the more I look into it and talk with other gamers, Ubisoft got lazy and just decided to release a kiddie version of Assassin's Creed Mirage. To the people who are going to spit off "How can you hate something that's not released yet or you haven't played?" Easy, I'll explain
This new character Sargon isn't The Prince. In past games The Prince is a playable character, but now that isn't the case. You know what I'm getting tired of, companies deciding to change franchises to cater and they use words like "modernize, diverse, fresh, new!" as selling points. Notice how this decision destroys franchises. Adding new characters is fine, do that 'till the cows come home I don't care, but why does he look like he just stepped out of Wakanda? In past games, the characters fit the area and also Ubisoft is forgetting that The Prince is a royal warrior who can get himself out of danger. Looking at the premise, Sargon has to save The Prince........who the fuck is this punk? The Prince was a total daredevil in Sands of Time, he went up against an entire army. And what about the time he fought a shadow version of himself, the whole point of that was to show he went from immature trickster to mature warrior/fighter. The movie showcased that! What the serious hell?!
The color scheme is all wrong, I feel like I'm looking at a Little Mermaid or My Little Pony game. I've been playing Prince of Persia since 1989 and even the first game had dark tones to it, an evil vizier locks a princess in the tower and you have to escape a dungeon in order to save her. That first game was timed, hence the hourglass next to the princess. The game is set in Medieval Persia, wars and battles are going on so the dark gritty feel works, not bright Sugar Rush Birthday Bash! To the person that said "even with all the bright colors, there's still a hint of darkness." go home, you don't belong here.
It's hilarious to me how defenders for this game know nothing about the games. Past games might have a solid story, it wasn't same old "prince saves the girl from evil vizier". However, the gameplay itself would be trash, a lot of games suffered from this. Good story/bad gameplay or the other way around. To the people screeching "Prince of Persia fans are never happy, can't please them, just look at 2008!" Okay 2008 was over 15 years ago, and Legend of Zelda fans rejected Skyward Sword so that's not an argument. Plus if you look at what was released in 2008, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe was highly anticipated (for good reason, watching Batman beat the shit out of Scorpion was amazing), Guitar Hero Tour/Aerosmith/World Tour, and Mario Kart pretty much took over the late 2000s. Seriously what is your argument concerning PoP fans not being happy? That 2008 Prince of Persia had a solid story, but the gameplay was meh. For the record, the last Prince of Persia game released was in 2013, it was a remake to the 1993 game The Shadow and the Flame. It sucks that we finally get a new Prince of Persia game and it's just a rip off from another Ubisoft franchise.
The price of this game is $60, why the fuck would I spend that kind of money when The Prince is an unplayable character (a lot of gamers are pissed about that) and has been turned into a damsel in distress? He doesn't need to be saved, past games/source material prove as much. Also if the plot is a cut/paste of Assassin's Creed Mirage, why not just buy the original? Think if Nintendo decided Link wasn't the Chosen Knight and he should be saved by I Am Error Guy, then dropped a Pokemon storyline into the next Zelda game. That's basically what Ubisoft did with this game.
I actually saw someone give a geography history lesson in the comment section, they were so desperate to defend this new game. Trying to prove the Prince of Persia plot was not Assassin's Creed Mirage, but it is, hate to be the bearer of bad news.
