the start to a good afternoon started with a daddy asking his princess an interesting question. he sunk down into the bed next to her where she was sat coloring, leaned into her and asked “is it okay if daddy surprises you with something fun?” her curious eyes widen at him and she smiled just a little bit before asking “wha is it?” her daddy raised his eyebrows and smiled back at her. he said “it’s a surprise, but don’t worry, you’ll love it! c’mon let’s go,” the baby girl wiggles excitedly, asking all the way from the time they get off the bed, to when daddy helps her with her shoes, for the whole car ride there “what is it? what is it?” and it’s not annoying at all, of course. her daddy thinks it’s so cute how excited she is.
her daddy finds a good parking place, and the princess recognizes the building as the mall. were they going to the candy shop? or the arcade? or the toy store? where could they be on there way to? her daddy unbuckles her, takes her hand, and walks her through the mall. until finally, they come around the corner, and they both see it—Build-A-Bear Workshop. once the baby girl sees it, she jumps around with glee, her pigtails bouncing at her sides, asking “daddy! daddy! is dat where we going? ta Build-A-Bear?” her daddy nodded excitedly. “yes, baby! was it a good surprise?” he asked smiling so big at her.
“yes! yes ada it is,” she said smiling. she dragged him by his hand into the store and they were greeted by a worker. she asked them to pick an animal, as they walked across the room, back and forth, back and forth. until their eyes landed on the perfect one. a fluffy, purple teddy bear. the little one gasped with excitement and pointed at it happily. “that one?” the worker asked who then turned to daddy. “are you getting one too?” the daddy responded with a nod and looked around a little bit longer before deciding on a puppy with a cream-colored eye, but the rest of his body was brown. “okay! follow me.” the worker responded cheerfully.
she led them to the stuffing machine and handed them both a little red heart. “now say a wish into the heart, and then we’re gonna put them in our bears.” she said as she began filling up the bears. daddy watched as his little girl scrunched up her eyes and he could tell she was thinking hard. he did the same, and when he finally thought of the perfect wish, he wished it into the heart.
the worker asked if they had made their wishes, and they both nodded, slowly placing their hearts into their bear and puppy. she sowed ‘em up and pointed us over to a big tall wall with a bunch of little clothes for their bears. the princess picked out a cute green dress and a tiny tiara for her bear and the ada picked out a basketball outfit for his puppy. they put their clothes on their animals and skipped over to the computers. it asked them all kinds of questions about their animals which they answered and finally they were able to print out their certificates.
after all of the fun of wishing, dressing, and naming, the two went up to the counter and dada paid for their animals. they both smiled big when they walked out. on the way to the car, dada asked the little princess what she wished for and she told “i wish for cuddles,” her daddy smiled and gave her hand a little squeeze. “aww thank you baby.” she looked up at him “daddy, wha did you wish for?” he looked at her and said “beet soup.”
the princess pushed him away a little exclaiming “eww!! thas so gross!” her daddy laughed so hard at his own joke before saying “i’m kidding, i’m kidding! i would never!” he pulled her in for a hug. “i’m sorry, i couldn’t help it. i wished for us to be together forever.”
she cuddled into his chest. “hmm. i like dat wish.” and they went home where they lived happily ever after.
