Conciliator's Duelist is a rare from Secrets of Strixhaven.

A conciliator is someone who keeps the peace through negotiations, so that's right up Silverquill's alley. In this guy's case, he can prevent combat damage by flickering a creature. It also comes with an enters the field clause to abuse with this which nets you a card and lowers both player's life total(important for Silverquill, an aggro deck archetype).

Repartee was a subset of Magecraft that they made in Secrets of Strixhaven. Magecraft was great, but in the return set they felt the need to make it more specific for each school. Prismari got Opus: basically Magecraft with a bonus for spending more than 4 mana on it, Quandrix cared about X spells in general(not just instants or sorceries), Lorehold cared about cards leaving the graveyard and got Flashback, Witherbloom got fucking nothing, and Silverquill got Repartee, caring specifically about targeting spells.

It's a good keyword cause it combines white's love of boosting itself and combat tricking with black's love of messing with opponents' stuff. It can cause some real snowball games and even the occasional massive blowout when plans go awry from a Repartee trigger which came into effect because you ALSO were kill-spelling the opponent's thing. Good times in w/b.

Auriok Glaivemaster is a common from Darksteel.

This guy is part of a group of cards in white in Mirrodin block that got better with equipment. This one was in the second set, which meant that it was probably the second best implementation of the idea. The common one in Mirrodin I believe got flying, this one gets first strike, which is a bit tougher to balance. That said, it DOES leverage the extra power granted by the buff and the equipment quite a bit. Overall, a pretty good 1-drop, especially in a time where 1-drops tended to be underpowered.

Living Plane is a rare from Legends.

World enchantments were supposed to reflect the players traveling to another world in their duel. In this place, the land is ALIIIIVE!!! So everyone's lands get to be Dryad Arbors. By which I mean, they have to be Dryad Arbors. I'm sure plenty of people used to use this with Pyroclasm to get a budget Armageddon. The oracle rules note on this one also notes that the lands will have summoning sickness when played after this thing, which also slows the game down. That said, this is a wacky card that reads more wacky fun than wacky annoying, which makes it one of the better old rares.

Sokenzan Spellblade is a common from Saviours of Kamigawa.

Well, this is quite the underpowered card, so no surprise it's from Saviours of Kamigawa, one of the weakest sets in Magic history. It's odd that a samurai is an oni, and also odd that it's a shaman, and this guy is both, a real weirdo.

For 5 mana you're mostly not paying for the stats, but rather for that pump ability, which you still need more than 2 cards in your hand to make it better than just plain firebreathing. If you have a ton of cards, you can pump this evasionless guy to the heavens, but if you have a ton of cards, you're probably winning the game anyhow, which was really the balancing trouble with Saviours' "cards in hand" mechanics. That, and the fact that people really prefer to PLAY their cards rather than hoard them.
