Screams ring in your ears as your vision sways in and out of darkness. There's a hint of flesh in the air. Smoke too, perhaps? There's trees everywhere you lookâ This place, it feels familiar and strange at the same time. Your chest squeezes hard, and your eyes jolt wide open.
...Shit.
Again?
With a sigh, you plant your face in your hands, shoulders trembling. You weren't sure how long you stay that way but when you lift your head, you could see the wet droplets around your fingers and your palms. Your hand instinctively hovers over your cheek and you find yourself leaning onto the touch. A warm hand. Crystal eyes. Light cyan hair.
Ah.
Fenir!
That's right, he's the Hydra isn't he?
Maybe he knows why it's happening for the second time?
Your gaze searches for the clock, desperate. The room is closing in, isnât it? Didn't you already cried? Why is the air so suffocating? And ohâ right, of course, it's three in the morning. If you scream or run into your mom's bed, will she wake up? But isnât the door too far away? And the shadowâ It's- It's everywhere.
They're pouncing in any minute won't they? You're sure of it. You've noticed this. They'll come for you again.
And like before, you won't be able to do anything. You'll have to contact the Central again like some helpless healer you are. Having to solely depend on multiple people just for your one human safety. Wait. Contact-!
Call first.
Your brain blares the instruction outloud as your hands scramble for your communicator, dialing the first number you thought of.
"Hello?"
A gentle voice, though slightly raspy. That wasn't his usual tone. More tears slide down your cheeks as you cradle the communicator close.
"...Hello?"
The voice repeats and you pull yourself just enough to muster your name.
"I know." There's a small silence as your tiny sobs fill it. "What is it? Did something happened?"
You heave in a deep breath, sink your head in deeper onto your pillow, "...Fenir." The first few sentences you hear yourself saying are shaky as you explain your nightmare away. It's pathetic to ask for help again while he already gave you some help with the same issue hours earlier. It's even tragic that you don't find yourself regretting it, and you can tell he doesn't either. If you close your eyes, you can imagine the way his eyebrows furrow just slightly as he mutters under his breath.
"Hmm... That's okay. I should've written it down for you."
Lips twitching, you respond with a hum and a thank you. You know the Hydra face will flush with a faint red like he always does.
Cute.
....Ah.
Had it always been this easy to shift the steering of your thoughts? He's not even here and yet... His voice alone does such powers. Is that why he couldn't use his powers? Is Fenir just so influential from how he speaks? If he continues to converse this way to you all the time, it is really no wonder if you end up spilling all your secrets.
Could you do that? Would he let you do that? Would you like it if he lets you? Could you allow yourself to like it?
His voice washes over you, and your breathing slows. Everything erratic comes to a stop when you come to him.
Fenir... Just.. Who... are you..?

Gale is a human colored by a disdain for his humanity. He goes into detail multiple times about how his humanity is a dissatisfaction. He wants to go further into the Weave, to know divinity completely.
Mystra is the Weave. She is magic, full stop. This is explicitly stated.
But when Gale held her, kissed her, there was nothing there to touch. Skin more like marble in its flawlessness. Eyes more like crystal in their luminance. She always smelled of sharp rosewater, always tasted of mild sweetness. Never a hint of sweat, of saliva, of any of the unclear oils and bacterias that infest the mortal form.
Somehow, I can't imagine Mystra ever laid with him as a man. Why would she bring herself low, to get in a human's actual bed? What would even be the point, when an ocean of cosmic perfection lay above?
Did it disgust him, then, to travel so high, lay with the very form of Magic, only to return to his meager human body? To be the owner of skin that smelled of sweat, skin that had scars and wrinkles and marks, skin that aged?
When Mystra cast his aside for his folly, did he long for the divine from the confines of his humanity? Did he hate the needs and limits of his body, the various hungers that cried out to be sated, when all his mind craved was that glittering perfection?
Mystra loved Gale's magic. Mystra loved him as a tiny expression of her own self.
Gale is his mind, certainly. His mind is where the magic is. His mind is remarkable. His mind is worthy of love. But this human thing, this temporary human thing that is a body, is not him in the same way. It's needy, and he wants so badly to escape from it into the divine.
And maybe that's what surprises him so much about being loved by a mortal. That someone would lay with him, Gale the man. Would bury their nose into his neck and breathe deeply the scent of him, would kiss the crows feet at his eyes and relish in the taste of his mouth.
Gale knows the touch of perfection, but the embrace of humanity has a deeper flavor, one that grounds him to the earth. One that makes him realize that flawless, perfect love is a distant thing, an inhumane thing.
Something that may surprise you is Astarion's preference for personal space when he sleeps. Given how enthusiastically he pursues you early on (and his reasons for doing so), you thought that he would be clinging to your side as soon as your tent flap closed.
Instead however, you find that Astarion appreciates a very active goodnight cuddle before separating to sleep. You're both lying down on your sides, facing each other. Your bodies curl into one another, legs overlapping. Astarion traces over the silhouette of your body as you talk about your day, the softest touch of his fingertips bringing goosebumps to your skin. He hovers over the area where neck meets shoulder, lightly scarred from his previous feedings.
You rest your hand comfortably at his side, taking advantage of his stillness to really study his features. The smile lines in his pale skin, the length of his pointed ears, the sliver of collarbone under his shirt. He's constantly on the move during the day, so you drink in the details while you can. He debriefs to you as well, moving his hand to interlace his fingers with yours. His body is cool, and you notice his tendency to press up closer to you on to sap your body heat.
Once it's time for sleep, you untangle from each other and sleep pretty normally. He's not much of a sleep-snuggler. Though, with your nightly conversations you're not left necessarily wanting for more (not that you mind either way). You sleep in your regular position, and he on his back in the typical elven meditative pose. It's comfortable, safe, familiar.
GALE
Your nightly routine with Gale revolves around a lot of tending to the day's wounds and mishaps, paired with a constant flurry of comfortable conversation. A tear in your trousers gets patched up while staffs are cleaned and reinforced. Adjustments for tomorrow's spells are made, trails are planned. Gale sifts through your alchemy pouches, answering your questions about herb origins with gusto. You move as a unit, like two gears in the same machine. As you move about, there are other conversations occuring, subtle ones, silent ones. Gale presses his forehead to yours to stop you from scowling as you mend; you hand him bits of twine and leather as he passes by, knowing that he's looking for them.
Even as you lie together, there is movement. You're tucked under Gale's chin as he lays on his back. If you're quite still, you can feel his pulse in his neck. Gale busies his ever-moving hands by drawing on your back. Alchameic symbols, runes he's seen, trails you've walked. He illustrates his thoughts and your adventures, your body his canvas.
When you start to fall asleep, you'll wriggle your body down so that your temple rests atop his chest. He traces the curve of your neck to your shoulder. Gale switches to words, messily writing incantations over your skin like a tattoo. If you pay attention, you catch him writing 'I love you' over and over, but you elect not to say anything as he does. Before you tuck your arm around his side, you trace love hearts over his stomach. Your head over his heart, you feel it beat a little faster, then slow as you both fall asleep.
HALSIN
Halsin enjoys being present. He drinks in the sight of you slowly, revels in the ability to simply take his time. After living such a long life lived already and the turmoil of the Shadow-Cursed Lands, he has an even greater appreciation for the smaller things in life. You've not lived quite as long as he, but you've already seen and done more than seemingly entire villages of people. Time and circumstance has worn you both down to a point. Resilience bounces you back, but a healthy regular dose of affection helps too.
At night, you both sit close to the fire. Halsin whittles, chipping away slivers of wood to carve out tiny pieces of art. He looks up, stretching his neck, and watches you as you map the stars above. You scrawl over maps and spare parchment, trying to write and doodle down your memories lest you forget them. When you look over to Halsin, your eyes meet, and you chuckle a little being caught off guard.
Taking you by the hand, Halsin leads you to your shared tent. You undress him, taking your time to smooth his hair back, to run your nails over his biceps. He returns the favour, cupping your curves with his large palms, spreading warmth all throughout your body. He lays on his side in the bedroll, one arm bent and tucked under his head. You use this as a pillow, enjoying his scent so close; wood and musk. Halsins free arm drapes over your midsection to pull you in closer. You push your knee through his legs and you slot together like puzzle pieces. You begin to talk about your latest mapping, your need for more parchment, and plans for tomorrow. Halsin kisses you on the forehead, entire being relaxed. You'll sleep squished together like this, encompassed by heat and comfort.
KARLACH
Cuddle supreme. You bet that once that engine is pacified enough to touch that Mama K is all over you like green on grass.
Prior to this, Karlach was sure (if not overly cautious) about maintaining a healthy distance between you. She was excessively worried about setting you ablaze during the night, and often opted to sleep just outside of her tent while you claimed her bedroll inside. Her claims of worry were partially genuine, but she also enjoyed how you left her tent. The smell you lingered on her sheets, and you often left little things behind like a water canteen or a book you'd been reading.
Once her engine was quelled though, the things she imagined could finally come to fruition. You often cuddle facing each other, changing positions like the moon over the sky. Most comfortably, Karlach settles her head under your chin, face pressed up against your neck and chest. Her arms wrap all the way around your middle, her legs crossing over yours. You curl both arms around her head, trying to leave enough room for her to breathe, and use your free hand to run through her hair. When you start gently scratching over her scalp, you get a snoring Karlach in an instant.
You find that you need to leave the tent flap partially open to vent out some of the warmth; even the most frigid nights are no match for Karlach's body heat. With how impossibly close you're smooshed together, there's little room for the cold to find you anyway.
LAEZEL
Given her dedication towards training and being the youngest in the group, it shouldn't be a surprise that Laezel is quite inexperienced when it comes to affection. Before she met you, and even during, quiet intimacy is somewhat foreign. When you first explained what cuddling was, Laezel thought it was some kind of defensive grapple.
When you both settle for the evening, you find yourselves prepping in comfortable silence for the days ahead. Laezel counts rations and sharpens blades. You condition leather and secure packs. Sometimes, she admires you silently as you focus on your tasks. She smiles to herself at your willingness to help, your competence, she feels security in your choosing her as a partner. Once it's time to settle into your bedrolls, you spend a few precious moments facing each other. She grips your hands in hers and studies your face. She stares with such intensity that it's like she's trying to commit every freckle and line to memory forever. There is some truth to this. When she closes her eyes in peaceful moments, she meditates on the things in her life that bring her joy; her accomplishments, her goals, and you, her partner.
Laezel most often sleeps on her back, leaving her more ready to react to ambushes in the night. She refuses to let go of one of your hands though, with you acting as a kind of anchor for her. Laezel's mind is constantly buzzing with what's to come next, reflecting on what's already happened. It's rare, and precious to her, to indulge in quiet moments of care.
MINTHARA
For practical reasons, Minthana rarely falls asleep with her limbs restricted - it's much harder to stab an intruder if one of your arms is cuddled under your lover. A light sleeper, Minthana doesn't mind sleeping on her side with you. She enjoys being the big spoon, and is certain to let you know that it's not solely because of the protective factor as she deems you just as capable as she (though internally, there's certainly a reflexive protective factor at play here).
Before you sleep, Minthana will curl around you, pressing the entire front of her body to your back. She commits your scent to memory, and recalls the days events aloud. You hold one of her hands in both of yours, mostly paying attention. She enjoys the way you massage her hands, rubbing your thumbs against her wrist, testing the sharpness of her nails against your skin.
When it's time to sleep, Minthana untangles from you, laying on her back or side. She likes to know that you're there though, so she crosses one of her legs over yours in some way. Her ankle rests over yours, or your thigh against her hip, or even just your heels touching each other. Enough closeness to feel your presence, enough space to breathe freely.
SHADOWHEART
You and Shadowheart vary your nighttime routines. Most times, you'll be engaging in mutual and self care, reflecting on the day, prayer, and washing. You offer to brush through Shadowheart's hair, carefully working through knots and bumps and smoothing it into something comfortable to sleep in. The feeling sends tingles down her spine, and she shivers like a cat purring, feeling sleepier and sleepier. She, in return, examines your hands. She cleans over them with a warm washcloth, applying healing balms and ointments to your cuts and bruises, filing your nails to shape.
You both spend time setting and resetting your shared bed space. Being adventurers, and with Shadowheart's past, you're used to moving around often. Your bedroll, your belongings, everything is set up ready to pack at a moment's notice. Though, if you take the time you notice small personal touches that make it feel like yours. A dense hairbrush adorned in silver, Shadowheart's. A thick, hand-woven blanket made in fibre native to your home, yours.
When you begin to collapse from exhaustion, more often than not Shadowheart will settle in behind you. You don't mind being the little spoon, indulging in Shadowheart's body heat and mindlessly playing with her fingers in yours. Shadowheart enjoys pressing her face to the back of your neck, sharing your body heat. She feels somewhat protective of you in the night. Quietly, she worries every now and again that something in the dark will take you away forever. You sense that fear sometimes, the way she drifts off in thought before squeezing you a little tighter. It's a feeling you're not unfamiliar with. She falls asleep to the sound of your voice as you tell her of your adventures past. She dreams of your adventures together in the future; this is something you have in common.
WYLL
Wyll enjoys holding you close basically any chance he gets, and bedtime is no exception. You both keep a reasonable distance while doing simultaneous night routines: Wyll polishes and stores your days' weapons, you pack and prep bags for the next day. As you flit past each other, there are subtle passing touches. A lingering glance at your exposed shoulder, the tips of your fingers grazing against his night clothes. Some are less so, you rake your fingers over his hair and horns, pressing your faces together. Or he'll stand behind you as you wipe down your face, body pressed impossibily close to yours. He teases you about the blush that crawls up your neck.
As you lay together, Wyll finds that sleeping on his back with some tactically stacked pillows works best for his horns. You rest your head at his collarbones, holding his hand. It calms you to feel his chest rise and fall as he breathes, and you never pass up an opportunity to ask him about his seemingly endless adventurous stories. Wyll watches you doodle on his palm, his other hand holds you at your waist, occasionally slipping his hand under your nightshirt to caress your skin.
Lying on your side, you fold your leg over his. You relish in how he squirms slightly depending on where your thigh ends up. Revenge. Most nights, you both fall asleep just like this in each other's embrace. Surrounded by a nest of pillows and a light blanket, you fall into warmth. Comfort in the night that takes you away from the horrors of the day.
Bonus!
NPCs (Alphabetical)
GORTASH
Routine is something both you and Gortash appreciate but rarely achieve with your busy schedules. If Gortash gets a moment at home, you're out in combat. If you come back at a reasonable hour, he's in meeting after meeting. The one thing you try in earnest to maintain though is a nightly routine when your times do align.
You both debrief and undress, spewing out the stress of the day with little regard for whether it makes sense or how many tangents you go off on. Gortash stands at your back as you sit in front of your vanity. He loosens your hair while you clean your wounds, chuckling about the injuries you'd inflicted in reply. You take Gortash's hand in yours and sit him down on the mattress. You run your fingers over his temples and he melts like snow. His muscles are tight as you massage over his neck, his shoulders, leaving light scratch marks over his skin.
In bed, you both lie on your sides, facing the window. The night sky casts the dimmest light into your room, the air outside is quiet and still. There is respite here. You curl around Gortash's back, spooning him as he clutches your hands tight in his. This is your routine, your normalcy. Here, neither of you are bloodstained, neither are performing. Comfort is a strange and rare indulgence in your plights to take over the world; but whether here in your chambers, in a bedroll camping in the forest, or in a jail cell, it's the one thing you can find in each other.
RAPHAEL
Raphael is fond of studying you, examining every inch, every curve of your being with all the patience in the Hells. He's currently asked you to pose for a portrait, draped loosely along a red velvet chaise while the light of the outside world shines just right over your body. It's difficult to catch your face, your eyes especially, in paint. Raphael finds your eye contact far too inviting to concentrate for another quiet hour, so he ceases.
Placing his brushes down, you sit up and crack your neck. You stretch the stiffness from your limbs and extend your hands out to encourage Raphael to join you. He kicks off his dress shoes, climbing atop you with his knee inbetween your legs. His spine curves as he lowers down, lips brushing over your ear as he embraces you.
With some effort, you wrap your arms around him, smothered by warmth and the faint scent of sulphur. You do get used to it after a while. An open window allows a gentle breeze in the room, slowly drying the paint. The light diffuses through sheer curtains, and it makes you sleepy. Time is confusing and unruly here, but you crave a lazy afternoon (at least, that's how it feels) nap. Stroking the back of Raphael's hair, you relax back and close your eyes. Despite his reservations, Raphael soon joins you. His face stays buried against your neck, every breath embued with your smell. You're surrounded by each other, neither of you especially keen to move away.
ROLAN
Finding a place to sleep in Ramazith's Tower wasn't the difficult part, choosing where to sleep was. For the first few weeks, you and Rolan explored a great depth, you'd never climbed so many stairs and walked so many invisible platforms in your life.
One night, you'd decided rather adventurously to sleep up high on a balcony. You'd made a nest of sorts with Rolan, harvesting pillows and blankets and a mattress. The weather was clear and mild as the sky slowly turned to black. Rolan had set up approximately four hundred fail safes to ensure neither of you would fall in your sleep.
You both huddle down into the swathes of fabric. You remark to Rolan how different this was to the camps you'd slept in when you met him, or the Emerald Grove where he and his siblings had stayed. You face each other, legs interlocking, and Rolan places both hands on either side of your face. He remarks that it's to keep you warm but the air has barely a chill. You shift slightly to point out constellations in the sky, and Rolan's hands move downward and settle at your sides. He plays with the hem of your nightshirt, eyes affixed to wherever you point and gesture. The spell of night overtakes you both, and you fall asleep with your foreheads pressed lightly together.
waa we did it gamers my first multi character piece!! Originally this was supposed to be a short and sweet dotpoint-style headcanons post but apparently I can't help myself. Because of how many characters there were to write and because I'm me it took a little longer than expected but I'm really happy
I've been committing myself to doing even just a little tiny bit of writing/creative stuff every day (with some gaps obvs I'm only human) and I gotta say it really does help
so if you're reading this, go write something. Or draw, or edit, or whatever but just do a little bit of something today. its good for the soul
Any chance youâd be willing to share some of your favorite (SFW) hypnosis files and/or creators to listen to? And also where to find them if possible, thanks :)
Hey hey!!
So this is a very refreshing question (normally people ask about the lewd things) and luckly I know a few people who do make quality SFW hypnosis. Here are some of my faves who I have tested myself...
Chewtoy: Seriously some of the highest quality audio and hypnosis out here right now and a massive inspiration of mine from both back in the day and even now. I have been a total fan of his for a very long time and coming back to his new work is seriously so crazy cool to see him still going and constantly upping the bar. Some of his work is on the lewd side but honestly there are a TON of free, extremely good and interesting audios on his patreon.
@ellaenchanting: I really like her approach to hypnosis and while I don't listen to a lot of femme people in my personal file collection, hers have been some I keep on rotation. I also want to say having been to her hypnosis classes and chatted to her briefly afterwards she is a huge inspiration and just a wonderful person (which in my mind always is such a joy to see a creator who is not just doing good work but also a great human!) Her linktree is here and she's mostly got audio on soundcloud and soundgasm!
Pling: This is very biased of me to have him on this list as he is a friend of mine and has been for a couple years now. What I love about Pling's audios is how because so many of them are freestyled, hey have a real "we're doing a session right now" quality to them. His voice is great (despite being australian... JKJKJK as a kiwi I have to give him shit for it) and his use of out of the box ideas and honestly sometimes downright memes in his audios is both fun and different. He does GREAT fractionation files which sometimes is hard to find (come on everyone... give me MOAR plz and thank you.) You can find his patreon here.
@tennfan2: Again, shout out to mic quality. It's so cool to hear a very well produced sound (as a bit of an audiophile myself). I really have enjoyed testing out Tennfan's work recently. I remember a few years back being in one of his classes and being intrigued to try his hypnosis and I really like it! You can find his work on soundcloud.
Mx Kicks: Another friend of mine (okay I know I have a lot of biases...) They stopped making audio which is a darn shame because their voice is top tier and their audios while short pack a serious punch for me. I was lucky enough to collab with them on my Distracted in Class series and they are for sure worth a listen if you have a few minutes. A lot of these are very SFW and all about the hypnosis which is fun. Their audios are still on YouTube.
@sex-obsessed-lesbian: Don't let the name trick you, she has some SFW audios too. I actually saw one of her classes a few years ago and I was such a fan of her overall vibe with how she does hypnosis that I got very excited to see she's making audios on Soundgasm! I haven't checked out many of them yet but I am excited to and honestly if you like silly, (sometimes sexy) stuff I think you'll be into her work!
VoxHypnosis: This is a new one to me, and by new I mean literally was going to try his file "The Loop" last night and... yea I'm not sure what happened there so let's say it was good? Not a lot of SFW audios on his SoundGasm but there might be more on his patreon? This is for sure someone I am going to keep an eye out for and see if he makes more SFW stuff in the future for free... For science.
I know these are just a handful of the THOUSANDS of amazing creators out here so if anyone has any of their own recs please let me know.
Also, my wife told me I have to mention this person on YT Secret Subject. Apparently she makes all kinds of free, SFW and NSFW audios on YouTube, Soundgasm and Patreon... đ

If I can have a "pet the dog" button and a "kiss my partner" button then why can't I have a "hug my friend" button. Where is the hug button, bitch?? You're taking over more than a half of my SSD storage and you won't even let me hug Karlach and Wyll whenever I want? Are you serious? Would a hug feature be too much on your overly complicated R$ 150 + 127 GB game??
(Don't mind me I just really wish I could've hugged Jaheira when she called me cub, Shadowheart is a very 𼺠gal she demands a lot of attention and I wish I could make her feel more appreciated in our friendship, Minsc has the hugest hugger vibes, Astarion's tsundere ass must look adorable getting platonically hugged, Gale is in desperate need of many sources of healthy affection- DO YOU SEE MY PROBLEM WITH NOT HAVING A HUG BUTTON???? LET ME HUG MY FRIENDS YOU STUPID HORNY GAME đ đ đ đ đ ) (not that I think it's bad that it's horny, I love that part, but I appreciate the friendships just as much, I don't wanna display affection only with my boyfriend, lemme love everyone loudly damn it đ¤đ¤đ¤)
I absolutely love how you write for the bg3 companions!!
Can we get romanced companions reacting to seeing Tav being approached by an abusive ex, who grabs them violently when Tav tries to walk away from the confrontation? They are grabbed violently by the hair, neck, wrist, etc? Thank you!!
omg yessssssssss tw everyone this will contain themes of abuse and domestic violence so if you are uncomfortable with that please click off and I will see you in the next one xox
Karlach:
The tavern was warm and lively, filled with the buzz of laughter, clinking mugs, and the hum of an old bard strumming away in the corner. You sat close to Karlach at a small, dimly lit table, her broad grin as radiant as ever. Her laughter boomed over some silly tale you'd told, her joy contagious as the two of you sipped from your mugs. The night was going perfectlyâuntil they showed up.
You didnât see your ex at first, but you heard their voice, a cold and unwelcome shard of your past cutting through the tavernâs warmth. âWell, well. Look who it is.â
Your stomach dropped. Turning slowly, you saw them, standing just a few feet away with that same cruel smirk youâd hoped to never see again. They looked the same, tooâbitter, angry, and clearly still holding a grudge. Karlachâs laughter faded as she noticed your sudden shift in demeanor. Her eyes flicked between you and the person now looming over your table.
âNot here,â you said softly, your voice steady but laced with warning. âDonât make a scene. Just leave.â
They laughed, a sharp, mocking sound that turned heads. âOh, Iâm making a scene?â they sneered, stepping closer. âYou think you can just walk out of my life and act like nothing happened?â
You tried to stand, but before you could, their hand shot out and grabbed your arm, fingers digging into your skin.
âYouâre not going anywhere,â they hissed.
The motion was so sudden that the tavern seemed to freeze for a moment. The mug in Karlachâs hand thudded onto the table, her expression darkening in an instant.
âGet your hands off them,â she said, her voice a low, warning growl.
Your ex sneered at her, but before they could say anything more, Karlach shot up from her seat. She shoved them back with one powerful hand, forcing them to release you. The force sent them stumbling, their eyes widening in shock.
âYou okay?â Karlach asked, her warm brown eyes filled with concern as she turned to you. Her hand came to your cheek, her thumb brushing gently against your skin.
âIâm fine,â you muttered, though your voice wavered slightly. âLetâs justââ
Before you could finish, your ex stormed back, their face twisted in rage. They lunged toward you, but they didnât get far. Karlachâs fist met their face in a flash of fiery determination, the impact so loud it echoed through the now-silent tavern. Your ex crumpled to the floor in a heap, unconscious before they even hit the ground.
Karlach flexed her fingers, looking down at them with disdain.
âIdiot,â she muttered, then turned back to you. âCâmon, love. Letâs get out of here.â
You nodded, your hands trembling slightly as you reached for your coat. As the two of you walked out into the cool night air, Karlach slipped an arm around your shoulders, her presence grounding you.
âSorry about that,â you murmured after a few moments of silence. âI didnât think theyâdââ
âStop,â Karlach said gently, her voice firm but kind. âYou donât owe me an apology for their bullshit. Whatâs their deal, anyway?â
You hesitated but eventually sighed. âWe were together a long time ago. It⌠wasnât a good relationship. They were controlling, mean. It took everything I had to leave.â
Karlachâs jaw tightened, and you could see the flicker of rage in her eyes as she looked straight ahead.
âShouldâve killed the arsehole,â she muttered under her breath.
You chuckled softly, though it was tinged with nervousness. âYou donât have to solve everything with violence, you know.â
She looked down at you, her expression softening.
âNot everything,â she said with a small grin. âBut that? They had it coming.â Her arm tightened around you. âNo one gets to treat you like that. Not while Iâm here.â
A warm wave of gratitude washed over you as you leaned into her, the safety of her presence more comforting than words could express. âThank you, Karlach.â
âAlways, love,â she replied, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. As the two of you walked home, you felt lighter, knowing you were no longer alone in facing the ghosts of your past.
Minthara:
The streets of Baldur's Gate were alive with the din of activity: merchants haggling in the marketplace, children darting between the crowd, and the occasional bard strumming a jaunty tune. You walked alongside Minthara, her presence commanding, as always. Her arm curled around your waist with a possessiveness that was both protective and tender. Her silvery hair caught the evening light, and her voice, low and firm, reached your ear.
âWe are being followed,â she murmured, her lips brushing your temple. âSomeoneâs gaze lingers far too long on you.â
Your heart sank, a sinking pit of familiarity clawing at your gut. You subtly glanced over your shoulder under the guise of adjusting your scarf, and thatâs when you saw them: your abusive ex. Their figure lingered in the shadows, weaving through the crowd like a snake, their eyes fixed on you with that same unsettling intensity you had tried so hard to forget.
âDammit,â you muttered, rolling your eyes. The weight of the moment sank in, and you let out a frustrated sigh.
Mintharas ruby eyes narrowed as she studied your expression.
âWho is that?â she asked, her voice icy and sharp.
You hesitated, considering whether to brush it off, but you knew better than to lie to Minthara. âDo you remember the scar just above my hip?â you asked softly, barely above a whisper.
Her grip on your waist tightened as she nodded, her gaze fixed on you, unreadable yet intense.
âThey gave it to me,â you admitted, keeping your voice steady. âIt happened the day I tried to leave them. We fought, andââ You stopped, the memories creeping too close. âTheyâve always had a hard time letting go.â
Mintharaâs body went rigid. Her hand, still wrapped around your waist, stilled entirely, her nails pressing into the fabric of your tunic. Her jaw clenched, and before you could stop her, she uncoiled with terrifying precision and sprinted toward your ex.
âMinthara, wait!â you shouted, but it was useless. She was already closing the distance.
Your ex barely had time to react before Minthara tackled them to the ground with the force of a lioness taking down her prey. The crowd scattered, gasps and shouts echoing in the marketplace as she delivered blow after calculated blow. Each strike was vicious but efficient, aimed with the precision of someone trained to dismantle an opponent piece by piece. Her movements were smooth, brutal, and terrifyingly beautiful in their ruthlessness.
âTouch them again,â Minthara snarled, her voice low and venomous as she pressed her forearm against your exâs throat, âand I will ensure that death would beg for you before I allow it.â
She delivered one final punch, leaving your ex groaning and crumpled in the dirt, their face bloodied and swollen. Satisfied, she stood, brushing her hands off as if she had merely swatted a fly. She strode back toward you, the calm precision of her movements making the crowd part before her like waves.
When she reached you, she lifted her chin, a faint, dangerous smile curling her lips.
âThe injuries Iâve given them will take decades to heal,â she promised, her voice still simmering with fury. âAnd perhaps a century to scar.â
You stared at her, part of you unsure whether to admonish or thank her. Finally, you sighed, shaking your head. âMinthara, you didnât have toââ
âThey hurt you,â she cut in, her voice softening only slightly as her gaze bored into yours. âThat is reason enough.â
She reached out, brushing her thumb against your cheek with unexpected tenderness. âYou are mine to protect. That wretch deserved every ounce of pain I inflicted.â
Despite the ferocity of her words, the warmth in her touch reminded you why you trusted her so deeply. With a soft sigh, you nodded, leaning into her hand.
âThank you,â you said quietly, the weight of her actions settling in. Her smile widened, pride glinting in her eyes.
âOf course, my heart. No one who dares harm you will ever go unpunished.â She took your hand and began walking again, her steps measured and sure. As the chaos in the marketplace faded behind you, you couldnât help but feel safer than you ever had before.
Lae'zel:
The bustling market was alive with noise: merchants shouting out their wares, children weaving between the stalls, and the occasional clang of metal as blacksmiths displayed their crafts. You and Laeâzel moved through the chaos, her sharp eyes scanning for supplies while you trailed beside her, taking in the sights. It was a moment of relative peace amidst your usual adventures.
And then, like a thunderclap on a clear day, you saw them. Your ex.
Before you could react, they were in front of you, their face lighting up with a joy that felt out of placeâwrong, even. âThere you are!â they exclaimed, pulling you into a hug so suddenly that you didnât have time to resist. Their arms wrapped around you tightly, and you froze, your breath catching in your throat as panic set in. It wasnât the embrace of an old friendâit was a claim, a reminder of the control they once held over you.
âIâve missed you,â they said with a grin, pulling back to look at you. âWe have to catch up sometime.â
They left without waiting for your reply, disappearing into the crowd as if they hadnât just turned your world upside down. You stood there, motionless, your heart pounding and your thoughts racing.
Laeâzel, who had been perusing a nearby stand, turned to you. Her amber eyes immediately narrowed, her expression shifting from mild annoyance at the interruption to something far more dangerous.
âWhat is this?â she demanded, stepping closer. âYou look like youâre about to fight a dragon with a pitchfork. Who were they?â
You couldnât speak at first. Your throat felt dry, and the words were stuck, lodged somewhere between fear and shame. Finally, you managed to stammer out, âThat⌠That was my ex.â
Laeâzelâs eyes sharpened, her gaze cutting through you like a blade.
âAnd this is your reaction to a past lover? You are no stranger to affection, but you looked as though the mere touch of them turned your blood to acid.â Her voice lowered, her tone becoming more dangerous. âWhat did they do to you?â
You tried to explain, but the words faltered. Your lips moved, but the memories caught up with you, dragging you back into a place you didnât want to revisit. You didnât need to say it, thoughâLaeâzel saw the truth in your silence.
She cursed violently in Gith, the harsh, guttural sounds slicing through the air. Her hand tightened around her weapon, and her whole body tensed like a predator ready to strike.
âThey hurt you,â she said, her voice barely above a growl. âI will take their head and present it to you as a trophy.â
She turned, already scanning the crowd for their retreating form, but you reached out, grabbing her arm.
âWait,â you said, your voice trembling. âJust⌠wait a moment.â
Laeâzel hesitated, her muscles twitching with the need for action, but she stayed. Her eyes never left you as you closed yours and took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm within. She stayed close, her presence grounding you as you forced yourself to let go of the fear and focus on the present.
After a few moments, you opened your eyes and gave her a weak smile.
âThank you,â you said, your voice steadier now. âI just needed a moment.â
Her gaze softened slightly, but the fire in her eyes hadnât dimmed.
âAre you ready?â she asked, her voice low and dangerous. âBecause I will not let this stand.â
You nodded, a small gesture, but it was all she needed. With a fierce grin, she turned on her heel and stalked into the crowd, her focus like a blade honed to perfection.
It didnât take long for her to find them. You followed at a safe distance, your heart racing but unable to stop her now. She caught up to them near a fruit stall, grabbing them by the shoulder and spinning them around. They barely had time to react before Laeâzel shoved them against a wooden post, her face inches from theirs.
âYou dare to touch what is mine?â she snarled, her voice loud enough to draw the attention of everyone nearby. âYou have left scars on them that I cannot abide. For that, I will use your head as my footrest.â
The ex stammered, their confidence evaporating under her ferocity. Before they could say anything more, Laeâzel delivered a sharp blow to their stomach, doubling them over. She stepped back, letting them fall to their knees, then stood over them like a conqueror surveying her victory.
Satisfied that her message was clear, she turned and walked back to you, her expression fierce but triumphant.
âIt is done,â she said simply. âThey will not trouble you again.â
You let out a shaky laugh, relief washing over you despite the chaos. âThank you,â you said, reaching out to take her hand.
Her grip was firm, reassuring. âNo one hurts you and walks away unscathed,â she said. âNot while I draw breath.â
With that, she led you away, her protective presence a shield against the world.
Shadowheart:
The party was vibrant, full of chatter, music, and laughter. The hum of lively conversation filled the grand hall as you and Shadowheart wove through the crowd, wine glasses in hand. You hadnât been entirely thrilled about attending, but Shadowheartâs soft insistence and the promise of shared moments made it worthwhile.
That was until you saw themâyour ex.
They were standing near the center of a small group, regaling their audience with some elaborate tale, their gestures animated and their voice dripping with charm. Your stomach turned when they noticed you, their expression lighting up with the kind of false familiarity that set your nerves on edge. They sidled over, slipping seamlessly into your space, and before you could react, they had drawn you into their circle.
Shadowheart, ever watchful, stayed close, her sharp eyes flicking between you and your ex.
âWe can leave,â she murmured under her breath, her voice calm but concerned. âSay the word.â
You shook your head, managing a strained smile.
âIâll be fine,â you assured her, though your grip on your glass tightened slightly. You didnât want to ruin the evening for her.
As the conversation swirled, your ex began telling a storyâone about you. They spoke as if the two of you were still an item, peppering their tale with biting remarks and veiled insults.
âOh, you shouldâve seen them back then,â they sneered, âalways so scatterbrained. Couldnât even get through a simple task without my help.â
The group laughed awkwardly, clearly sensing the tension. Your face burned with a mix of anger and humiliation, but before you could find your voice, Shadowheart stepped forward, her demeanor cool and composed, but her eyes as sharp as daggers.
She interrupted smoothly, her voice cutting through the conversation like a blade.
âThat reminds me of a story from my past,â she said, her tone conversational yet chilling. The group turned to her, captivated by the quiet authority in her voice. âThere was a time when I dealt with an exceptionally arrogant prisoner. They fancied themselves cleverâalways talking back, thinking they were in control. So I decided to teach them a lesson.â She paused, taking a sip of her wine as if the next part were merely an afterthought. âI ripped out their tongue and fed it to them.â
The silence that followed was deafening. The group stared at her, their eyes wide, as the weight of her words hung heavy in the air. Your ex, who had been so confident mere moments ago, visibly paled, their mouth opening and closing as if searching for a retort.
Shadowheart tilted her head slightly, a faint, dangerous smile playing on her lips. âItâs remarkable how much quieter some people can be after a simple⌠correction.â
Your ex stammered something unintelligible before hastily excusing themselves, practically fleeing from the room. The tension broke, and you couldnât help but laughâa genuine, bubbling sound of relief and delight. You turned to Shadowheart, your heart swelling with gratitude and affection.
âThank you,â you said, grinning. âThe look on their face⌠Iâll treasure that forever.â
Shadowheart leaned in, her lips brushing against yours in a tender yet possessive kiss.
âI love you,â she said softly, her words a vow as much as a declaration.
Then she pulled back slightly, her eyes glinting with something dark and resolute.
âHold my wine,â she said, pressing her glass into your hand. âThereâs somethingâor rather, someoneâI need to deal with.â
Before you could protest, she was gone, her dark hair flowing like a shadow cutting through the crowd. You watched her go, a mixture of admiration and mild terror filling you. Whatever she had in mind, you knew one thing for certain: no one would dare cross herâor youâever again.
Jaheira:
The warm hum of Jaheira's household had always been a comfort to you. The chatter of the children, the occasional laughter, and the scent of a home-cooked meal mingled with the faint floral aroma of the plants she meticulously tended. You were setting the table, ready to sit down for the evening meal with Jaheira and her family, when an insistent knock sounded at the door.
The sound froze you in place. It wasnât the friendly, casual knock of a neighbor or friend. No, it was sharp and demanding, like someone who felt entitled to be heard. Dread pooled in your stomach, but you swallowed it down. You werenât that person anymore. You were stronger now, surrounded by people who cared for you.
Still, when you opened the door and saw your ex standing there, their familiar sneer twisting their features, that old fear reared its head.
âYou shouldnât be here,â you said, keeping your voice firm. âThis isnât the time or the place.â
Your ex scoffed, taking a step closer. âIâll decide where I should be,â they spat. âWe have unfinished business.â
Your heart raced, but you held your ground. âLeave,â you repeated, gripping the doorframe tightly. âNow.â
Their response was to shove youâhard. The force sent you stumbling back, and you hit the ground with a painful thud, the breath knocked out of you. Your ex marched inside, their eyes scanning the room like they owned it.
âGet out!â you shouted, your voice shaking more than youâd like.
The commotion brought Jaheiraâs children rushing into the room. Jhessem and Tate were at your side in an instant, their small hands helping you sit up as they looked at you with wide, worried eyes. Fig, ever the fiery little warrior, grabbed her wooden sword and brandished it at your ex, her small frame trembling but determined.
âYou leave them alone!â she yelled, her voice high-pitched but fierce.
Your ex laughed, a sound that sent shivers down your spine. But the laughter died when Jord and Rion stepped forward, their presence filling the room with an almost tangible force.
Jord, tall and broad-shouldered, the half-orc planted himself between the children and your ex.
âYouâve got two seconds to get out of this house,â he said, his voice low and rumbling with warning.
Rion, her sharp features twisted into a glare that could cut stone, pointed a finger at your ex.
âYou do not belong here,â she said, her tone icy. âLeave before I make you.â
Despite the bravery of Jaheiraâs children, you quickly pushed yourself to your feet, positioning yourself between them and your ex.
âThis isnât their fight,â you said firmly, your voice stronger now as you faced your abuser. âLeave them out of this. Leave us alone.â
Your ex sneered, taking a step toward you, but before they could say another word, the sound of measured, deliberate footsteps echoed from the staircase. Everyone turned as Jaheira descended, her eyes sharp as a hawkâs.
She took in the scene at a glanceâthe children bristling with protective anger, you standing tense and pale, and your ex, whose presence tainted the very air. Her expression darkened like a storm cloud.
âWhat is this?â she asked, her voice calm but carrying an unmistakable edge.
Your ex, ever the fool, sneered. âJust having a little chat.â
Jaheiraâs gaze flicked to you. âAre they threatening you?â she asked, her voice low and dangerous.
Before you could answer, your ex made the mistake of laughing. âThis is none of your business, old woman.â
Jaheira didnât respond with words. Instead, she raised a hand, her fingers curling in a subtle motion. Thorned vines erupted from the floor, twisting and writhing like living snakes. They wrapped around your ex with terrifying speed, pinning their arms to their sides and tightening until they yelped in pain.
âGet them out of here,â Jaheira commanded, her voice like steel.
The vines obeyed, dragging your ex toward the door. They thrashed and cursed, but the thorns only dug in deeper. With a final, satisfying motion, the vines flung them out into the street. The door slammed shut behind them, and the vines retracted as if they had never been.
Jaheira turned to you, her eyes softening. You immediately started to apologize, guilt bubbling up in your chest. âJaheira, Iâm so sorryâI never thought theyâd come here. I never wanted to put you or your children in dangerââ
âStop being ridiculous,â she interrupted, her tone gentle but firm. She stepped closer, her hands cupping your face as she looked you over. âAre you hurt?â
You shook your head, the lump in your throat making it hard to speak. âIâm okay.â
âGood,â she said, her hands dropping to your shoulders. âYouâve been through enough tonight. Rest now.â
âIâll make some tea,â Jord said, already heading toward the kitchen with calm efficiency.
Fig tugged at your sleeve, her wooden sword still clutched in her hand. âWeâll always help you,â she said, her voice small but fierce.
You managed a smile, ruffling her hair. âThank you, Fig.â
Jaheira wrapped an arm around your shoulders, guiding you toward the sitting area.
âYouâre safe here,â she murmured, her voice steady and soothing. âNo oneâno oneâwill ever hurt you again.â
As you sank into the cushions, the tension slowly leaving your body, you felt the warmth of Jaheiraâs family around you. They had rallied to protect you without hesitation, and for the first time in a long time, you felt truly safe.
Gale:
The cozy, labyrinthine aisles of Sorcerous Sundries stretched out around you, their shelves laden with ancient tomes and scrolls that hummed with latent magic. The scent of old parchment and ink filled the air, grounding and soothing. You and Gale had been immersed in your own quiet exploration, each lost in the treasure trove of knowledge. Every so often, youâd exchange a snippet of discoveryâa passage here, a glyph thereâbut for the most part, it was a shared silence, warm and comfortable.
As your fingers trailed over the spine of a particularly aged tome, its title caught your eye: The Heart of Aetherial Bonds. Intrigued, you flipped it open and found a passage that immediately reminded you of Gale. The words were poetic, a reflection on the ties between love and magic, the way one could amplify the other. A small smile tugged at your lips. He would love this.
âGale,â you called softly, tucking the book under your arm as you began to weave through the aisles, searching for him.
Your steps were light as you rounded a corner, spotting a familiar silhouette a few shelves away.
âThere you are,â you began, but as the figure turned, the words died in your throat.
It wasnât Gale.
Your blood ran cold as you recognized themâyour ex. The person who had haunted your past, whose shadow you had thought youâd escaped. Their eyes lit up with a twisted glee, and before you could move, they stepped forward and grabbed your arm in an iron grip.
âI canât believe it,â they said, their voice dripping with possessive satisfaction. âIâve been searching for you, and here you are.â
âLet go of me,â you said firmly, trying to pull away. Their grip only tightened, the familiar pain radiating up your arm.
âYouâre coming home,â they hissed, their tone leaving no room for argument.
Your heart pounded as you pushed against their hold, your voice shaking. âYouâre hurting meâlet go.â
But just as before, they didnât listen. Their other hand reached to grip your shoulder, and for a moment, panic threatened to overwhelm you.
Then, the air shifted. A crackling sound filled the room, sharp and electric, like the air before a storm. A chill ran down your spine as the oppressive grip on your arm faltered. Both you and your ex turned toward the source of the energy.
Gale stood at the end of the aisle, his form illuminated by a pulsing, arcane light. His expression was unlike anything you had seen beforeâfierce, unyielding, his eyes glowing with a raw, dangerous power. Magic swirled around him, forming tendrils of energy that snapped and sparked against the air.
âRelease them,â he said, his voice a low, commanding growl.
Your ex hesitated, their bravado wavering as the sheer intensity of Galeâs presence bore down on them.
âThis isnât your business, mageâ they spat, but their voice lacked conviction.
âOh, but it is,â Gale said, his hands lifting as the magic in the air intensified. âYouâve made it so.â
Before another word could be uttered, a blinding flash of energy erupted from Galeâs outstretched palms. The searing light enveloped your ex, their scream cut short as their form disintegrated into ash, leaving nothing behind but a faint, acrid scent and a smudge of dust on the floor. The magic dissipated as quickly as it had appeared, leaving the air still and silent.
Gale was at your side in an instant, his hands gently cradling your face as he looked you over.
âAre you hurt?â he asked, his voice soft now, filled with worry.
You shook your head, tears welling up as the adrenaline drained from your body.
âIâIâm okay,â you managed, your voice barely above a whisper. âThank you.â
He pulled you into his arms, holding you close as the weight of what had just happened settled over you. The tension in your body melted as you buried your face in his chest, the faint scent of his robes and the comforting hum of his magic grounding you. Your shoulders shook as quiet sobs escaped, the fear and relief spilling out all at once.
âItâs over,â Gale murmured, his hand gently stroking your back. âYouâre safe now. I wonât let anyone hurt you again.â
You clung to him, the sound of his heartbeat steady and calming against your ear. After a while, your tears slowed, and you pulled back just enough to look up at him. His face was a mixture of concern and quiet anger, his protective instincts still on high alert.
âI donât know what Iâd do without you,â you said, your voice trembling but sincere.
He smiled softly, brushing a stray tear from your cheek. âYouâll never have to find out.â
Astarion:
The lively hum of the tavern wrapped around you like a familiar cloak, its warmth and noise a welcome respite from the chaos of adventuring. You sat at a corner table with Astarion, his sharp wit and flair for drama turning a mundane evening into something delightfully entertaining. Together, you exchanged hushed gossip about the other patronsâtheir fashion choices, their whispered secretsâand laughed at his outrageous commentary.
âOh, look at him,â Astarion murmured, tilting his head toward a burly man near the bar, his tone dripping with mock seriousness. âIâd wager heâs had one too many piesâand just one too many wives, judging by that tan line on his ring finger.â
You snorted into your drink, shaking your head. âYouâre incorrigible.â
âAnd yet, you adore me,â he said with a playful smirk. He lifted your glass with a flourish. âSpeaking of adoration, Iâll be a dear and fetch you a refill. Donât miss me too much.â
You grinned, watching as Astarion sashayed toward the bar, his charm radiating even in the simplest of tasks. Leaning back, you took a moment to enjoy the bustling atmosphere, but your peace shattered as a shadow fell over your table.
Your stomach churned as you turned to see your ex standing there, their presence as unwelcome as a dagger in the back. Without waiting for an invitation, they slid into Astarionâs vacated seat, their grin sending a chill down your spine.
âWell, well,â they said, leaning closer. âFancy seeing you here.â
You stiffened, your pulse quickening. âLeave,â you said coldly, standing abruptly. âThis isnât the place, and I have nothing to say to you.â
But as you turned to leave, their hand shot out, grabbing a fistful of your hair and yanking you back with a cruel force. A sharp yelp escaped your lips as pain flared along your scalp.
âYou think you can just walk away from me?â they snarled, their grip tightening. You tried to swing at them, but panic muddled your movements, and they easily avoided your weak attempts to break free. The room seemed to close in, the once-lively chatter of the tavern fading into a distant hum as fear took hold.
And then, just as suddenly, the pressure on your scalp vanished. You staggered forward, catching yourself on the edge of the table, and turned to see your ex frozen in place. A knife glinted at their throat, a thin line of blood already welling against the bladeâs edge. Behind them stood Astarion, his expression icy and predatory.
âIâve been dying for a fresh kill tonight,â Astarion purred, his voice dangerously low. âAnd it seems youâve volunteered. How considerate.â
Your exâs bravado crumbled as they began to stammer, their hands raised in shaky surrender. Astarionâs grip on the knife didnât waver, his sharp eyes flicking to you.
âDarling,â he said, his tone almost conversational, âthis oneâs causing you trouble, isnât he?â
You met his gaze, your scalp still throbbing but your heart swelling with gratitude. Nodding slowly, you gave him permission with a single, deliberate motion of your head.
Astarionâs smile widened, and he dragged your ex out of the tavern with an almost casual ease, ignoring their sputtered protests. The crowd parted instinctively, sensing the danger in his stride. You stayed behind, nursing your scalp and taking deep breaths to steady yourself. The minutes felt like hours, but eventually, Astarion returned, brushing off his hands as though heâd simply taken out the trash.
âAll taken care of,â he said, his tone light as he reached for you, cupping your face gently. âLet me seeâdid they hurt you?â
âIâm fine,â you said, though your voice wavered slightly. âIâI could have handled it.â
Astarion raised an elegant eyebrow, his hand trailing down to rest on your shoulder.
âOh, please, my love,â he said with mock exasperation. âYouâre many things, but youâre not a liar. Let me have this one.â
You sighed, relenting. âThank you, Astarion.â
He smiled softly, leaning in to press a kiss to your temple. âYouâre welcome, darling. But seriously, are you okay? That bruteââ
You interrupted him with a nod, placing a hand over his. âI am now. Because Iâm with you.â
His expression softened, the predatory edge replaced by something tender.
âAlways,â he murmured, his voice a promise. With a protective arm around your waist, he led you out of the tavern, away from the echoes of the past and into the safe haven of his presence.
Wyll:
The ballroom of the Ulder Ravengard's estate was a vision of opulence. Crystal chandeliers cast shimmering light over marble floors polished to a mirror sheen. Noblemen and women in resplendent attire swayed to the music of a skilled orchestra, their laughter mingling with the hum of conversation. You and Wyll had been thoroughly enjoying yourselves, weaving through the room, gossiping about fashion choices and laughing at poorly-hidden flirtations among the elite.
Wyll, as always, moved with an effortless charm that drew people to him like moths to a flame. He introduced you to old friends, clinking glasses with ease, his laugh rich and genuine. His warmth was contagious, and you found yourself at ease in a social world that might have otherwise intimidated you. But when Wyll excused himself to chat with a group of friends near the wine table, you waved him off with a smile, happy to people-watch for a while.
A light tap on your shoulder pulled you from your thoughts. A hand reached out, beckoning you to the dance floor. You assumed it was a friend or an acquaintance and allowed yourself to be led. But as you turned, your stomach plummeted. Your blood ran cold.
It was them.
Your abusive ex stood before you, their grin as sharp and cruel as you remembered. It was a grin that promised pain masked under a veneer of charm. You instinctively tried to pull your hand away, but their grip only tightened, their fingers digging into your wrist.
âDonât look so surprised,â they said smoothly, their voice low and venomous. âYou didnât think you could escape me forever, did you?â
âThis isnât the time or place,â you hissed, keeping your voice quiet to avoid drawing attention. âLet me go.â
âOh, I donât think so,â they replied, their grip tightening further as they began to lead you into a slow, swaying dance. Their tone was soft, deceptively sweet, but their eyes glinted with malice. âYou owe me this much, at least. Donât make a scene. Wouldnât want to embarrass your fancy boyfriend or his oh-so-important father, would you?â
Your heart raced as they leaned in closer, their breath hot against your ear.
âYou think youâve moved on, donât you? That you can just walk away from what we had? Youâre mine, and you always will be.â You tried to twist out of their grip, panic rising in your chest.
âLet go of me,â you spat, your voice trembling despite your best efforts to stay composed.
Their smile only widened. âOh I donât think so,â they said, their voice dropping an octave. âYouâre going to regret leaving me.â
You braced yourself, half-expecting them to lash out. Your eyes squeezed shut as you prepared for a blow that never came. Instead, a loud, sickening crack echoed through the ballroom, followed by gasps from nearby guests.
Opening your eyes, you saw your ex sprawled on the polished floor, clutching their face. Blood gushed from their nose, staining their pristine clothing. Standing over them, his posture rigid with fury, was Wyll. His usual easygoing demeanor was gone, replaced by a simmering rage that made the air around him feel electric.
âTouch them again,â Wyll growled, his voice low and deadly, âand a broken nose will be the least of your worries.â
Your ex scrambled backward on the floor, their bravado shattered as they stared up at Wyll in terror. Before they could say anything, a pair of Flaming Fist guards appeared, having been alerted by the commotion. Wyll waved them over, his eyes never leaving your ex.
âTake them,â Wyll ordered, his voice firm. âTheyâre disturbing the peace.â
The guards didnât hesitate. They grabbed your ex by the arms and hauled them to their feet, ignoring their sputtering protests and threats. As they dragged your ex away, Wyll finally turned to you, his expression softening in an instant.
âAre you alright, love?â he asked gently, stepping closer to cup your face in his hands. His warm brown eyes scanned you for any sign of injury.
âIâm fine,â you managed to say, though your voice was shaky. âWyll, Iâm so sorryâI didnât mean to cause a sceneââ
âStop,â he interrupted, shaking his head. âYou donât need to apologize. This isnât on you.â
The weight of his words, the sincerity in his voice, brought tears to your eyes. He pulled you into a tight embrace, his hand cradling the back of your head as he whispered soothing words into your ear. The rest of the ballroom seemed to fade away, leaving only the comforting warmth of his presence.
When you finally pulled back, he brushed a stray tear from your cheek and gave you a small, reassuring smile. âYouâre safe now. Thatâs all that matters.â
You nodded, your breath evening out as the panic subsided. âThank you, Wyll.â
He kissed your forehead tenderly before taking your hand in his.
âCome, my love,â he said, his voice returning to its usual warmth. âLetâs get you a fresh drink. Weâve both earned it tonight.â
And with that, he led you away from the gawking crowd, his protective arm wrapped securely around you, a silent promise that no harm would come to you as long as he was by your side.
Halsin:
The forest was tranquil, the golden light of the afternoon filtering through the dense canopy of leaves. You moved between patches of wildflowers, humming a tune as you gathered handfuls of blooms for the orphans back at the grove. The air was sweet with the scent of flowers and moss, and for a time, you felt entirely at peace.
Your basket was nearly full when a faint rustling behind you caught your attention. You paused, glancing over your shoulder, but the forest appeared empty. Shrugging it off as a rabbit or some other harmless creature, you bent down to pluck a cluster of bright yellow flowers. You didnât notice the shaggy, wiry wolf stalking closer, its pale eyes fixed on you with an unsettling intensity.
Suddenly, the wolf sprang from the underbrush, a blur of fur and teeth. You gasped as it collided with you, the force of the pounce knocking you to the ground. Its heavy paws pinned you to the forest floor, the breath driven from your lungs as you struggled beneath its weight.
Before you could scream, the wolf began to shift. Fur melted into skin, limbs elongated, and in moments, you were staring into the face of your abusive ex. The recognition hit you like a blow to the chest, your blood running cold.
âYou,â you breathed, horrified, and immediately began to struggle.
They leaned closer, their wild eyes gleaming with an unnerving fervor.
âDid you miss me, darling?â they crooned, their voice dripping with mock affection. âIâve missed you so much. I couldnât let you go, not like that.â
âGet off me!â you snapped, shoving at their chest with all your strength. Your heart pounded as you tried to call for help, but their hand clamped over your mouth, silencing you.
âShh,â they whispered, their grin twisting into something darker. âDonât make this difficult. Youâre mine. Youâve always been mine.â
Panic surged through you, and you did the only thing you could think ofâyou bit down hard on the palm of their hand. They hissed in pain but didnât flinch away, instead smirking as if they found your resistance amusing.
âStill feisty,â they murmured, their tone infuriatingly condescending. âIâve always loved that aboutââ
Their words were cut off by a deafening roar, a deep, guttural sound that reverberated through the forest. A massive brown bear charged out of the trees, barreling into your ex with bone-crushing force. The impact sent them flying, their body slamming into the trunk of a tree with a sickening thud.
The bear was relentless. Your ex shifted back into their wolf form, snarling as they tried to defend themselves, but they were no match for the sheer ferocity of Halsin. His claws tore through fur and flesh with savage precision, his roar echoing through the woods as he drove your ex deeper into retreat. When the wolf finally lay broken and bloodied, it whimpered and slunk away, disappearing into the underbrush.
Halsin remained in bear form for a moment longer, his massive chest heaving as he watched the wolf flee. Only when he was certain the threat was gone did he shift back, his towering frame immediately rushing to your side.
âYouâre hurt,â he said urgently, dropping to his knees and cradling your face in his large hands. His amber eyes scanned you for injuries, his expression a mixture of worry and fury. âWhat did they do to you?â
âIâm okay,â you said, your voice trembling as the adrenaline began to fade. âIâm just⌠shaken up.â
His arms wrapped around you, pulling you close. His embrace was almost crushing, but you didnât mindâyou needed the grounding warmth of his presence as much as he needed the reassurance that you were safe. You buried your face against his chest, clinging to him as your body trembled.
âI should have been here sooner,â Halsin murmured, pressing a kiss to your temple, then your forehead. âIâll never let anything like this happen to you again.â
You rested your head against his chest, letting his warmth and steady presence soothe your frayed nerves. âYou were here when I needed you,â you reassured him. âThatâs all that matters.â
Halsin pressed a kiss to the top of your head, his breath warm against your hair. He didnât let go, and you didnât ask him to. In that moment, being in his arms was the safest place in the world.

An arranged marriage, enemies to lovers fic: part one part two part three part four part six
â â˘â â°âââ˝ŕźâžâââąâ â˘â
As the festivities continued, you could feel the subtle, intoxicating effects of the Menzoberranzan love magic beginning to take hold. The laughter and applause of the guests seemed to amplify the enchantment, wrapping you in a cocoon of euphoria and heightened emotion. You were surrounded by the opulence and sheer power of Minthara, her presence radiating authority and respect. The realization that you were now part of this world, bound to her, began to settle in, and it was impossible to ignore the growing sense of satisfaction.
Mintharaâs aura was captivating, a force of nature that drew you in. You felt a growing sense of contentment and pleasure in being by her side, a stark contrast to the resentment you had intended to harbor. The love magic was working its way into your thoughts, making you appreciate the strength and allure of the woman you had married. You had been meant to hate her, to use this union as a means of ruin, but amidst the revelry and the enchantment, you found yourself wanting to indulge in the moment.
The crowdâs admiration for you was palpable, but it seemed to intensify Mintharaâs possessiveness. You noticed how her gaze grew sharper when others approached you, how her body language became increasingly protective. It was both surprising and oddly gratifying. She seemed unable to tolerate the attention you were receiving from well-wishers, her frustration bubbling beneath her composed exterior.
At one point, as you were surrounded by a particularly enthusiastic group of guests complimenting you on your beauty and grace, Minthara made her move. With a sudden but graceful maneuver, she swept you out of the crowd, her arm wrapping securely around your waist. Her hand pressed just above your abdomen, her fingers warm and possessive against your skin.
âExcuse me,â Minthara said in a voice laced with barely concealed irritation, directing a pointed glance at the people around you. âI need to have a moment with my wife.â
Her words, though commanding, were accompanied by an unexpected tenderness. As she pulled you closer, her body pressed against yours, you could feel the intensity of her emotions. There was a raw, almost primal possessiveness in her touch that was both thrilling and unsettling. You could sense that she was struggling with the same magical influence that you were, her emotions heightened and her desire for you growing stronger by the minute.
The magic seemed to blur the lines between reality and desire, making every touch, every whisper, and every glance from Minthara feel amplified and all-encompassing. You tried to remind yourself of your original intentâto hate her, to make this union a burdenâbut the enchantment made those thoughts seem distant, almost irrelevant.
You looked up at her, catching the intensity in her eyes, and for the first time, you could see the depth of her feelings laid bare. The kiss from earlier had ignited a spark between you, and now, with the love magic at play, that spark was becoming a flame.
As the crowd continued their festivities around you, the space you occupied with Minthara felt like a private, intimate world. The music and laughter of the banquet hall faded into the background, leaving you both in a bubble of emotional intensity.
Mintharaâs grip tightened slightly, her lips brushing against your ear as she whispered, âAre you enjoying the attention, my love?â
The possessiveness in her voice was undeniable, but so was the genuine affection she felt. You nodded, feeling the warmth of her body against yours, and allowed yourself to indulge in the feelings the magic had stirred.
You looked up at Minthara, trying to balance the heightened emotions stirred by the enchantment with the reality of the situation. Her possessive grip on your waist was both comforting and intense, her body radiating warmth against yours.
âPerhaps,â you admitted with a soft, seductive smile, âI am enjoying the attention.â
Minthara's pout deepened, her eyes narrowing playfully as she leaned closer, her lips brushing your ear. âItâs such a shame, then,â she murmured, her voice laced with a hint of mischief, âthat Iâm going to have to cut that short.â
You raised an eyebrow, intrigued by her sudden shift in demeanor. âWhyâs that?â you asked, trying to sound nonchalant despite the thrill her words elicited. Mintharaâs smirk was almost predatory as she looked down at you.
âBecause,â she said, her voice dropping to a whisper that only you could hear, âI want all your attention for myself.â
The possessiveness in her tone was unmistakable, and you could see the determination in her eyes. You tried to reason with her, though you were well aware that the love magic was amplifying your emotions and making her possessiveness feel almost endearing.
âBut we canât just leave our own wedding reception,â you pointed out, your voice a mix of amusement and frustration. âThere are guests, there are formalities...â
Minthara cut you off with a firm yet affectionate squeeze of your waist. âWeâre Matron and Mistress of the most powerful house in the Underdark,â she said, her voice filled with unwavering confidence. âWe can do whatever we want. Besides, youâre my wife now. The celebration can wait.â
Her words, though assertive, were tinged with a possessive tenderness that made you shiver. You could feel the pull of her desire, the enchantment working its magic to make her emotions even more intense.
She leaned in closer, her breath hot against your neck as she whispered, âLetâs make the most of this night. We have all the power in Menzoberranzan, and right now, I want you all to myself.â
The weight of her words settled heavily upon you, mingling with the effects of the love magic. The idea of escaping the crowd and focusing solely on each other felt both thrilling and indulgent. Despite the chaos of the reception, Mintharaâs intense gaze and the way she held you close made it clear that she was determined to have you all to herself.
With a sigh of surrender, you looked around the banquet hall. The guests were absorbed in their conversations, the music playing in the background, and the merriment of the night was in full swing. It was easy to see why Minthara felt she could take control of the situation. As Matron and Mistress, you were indeed in a position to dictate the course of their own night.
As Minthara guided you through the labyrinthine corridors of the manor, her grip on your waist was firm and unyielding. Her touch was both possessive and electrifying, every step she took radiating with the intensity of her desire. The corridors seemed to blur past, the sounds of the banquet fading into the background as you were drawn further into the private sanctuary of your quarters.
Once inside, Minthara wasted no time. The door was closed with a decisive thud, and she turned to face you with a mixture of hunger and urgency. The air between you crackled with the residual magic of the evening, amplifying every sensation and emotion. Her lips crashed onto yours, her kiss fierce and demanding. You responded in kind, your hands gripping her shoulders as you were pulled into the passionate embrace.
In the midst of your heated kisses, Minthara pulled away just enough to murmur, âI didnât ask you what happened with the acolyte.â Her voice was a husky whisper, her breath mingling with yours.
You paused for a moment, catching your breath as you gazed into her eyes. âShe tried to poison you,â you managed to say, your voice laced with both satisfaction and urgency. âBut I dealt with it. Sheâs been⌠taken care of.â
Mintharaâs eyes darkened with a mixture of arousal and satisfaction. The knowledge that you had dealt with the threat seemed to heighten her desire even further. She captured your lips in another searing kiss, her hands moving with a sense of purpose as she guided you towards the bed.
With a swift motion, she pushed you down onto the bed, her body following closely as she pinned you beneath her. The intensity of her gaze was matched by the firmness of her hold, and you could feel her heated breath against your skin.
âI want details,â she murmured, her lips brushing your ear. âBut that will have to wait until morning.â
The urgency of the moment made the complexity of your ceremonial attire a frustrating obstacle. As you both tried to strip each other, the intricate layers and fastenings of your clothing proved difficult to navigate. Each attempt only seemed to result in more entangled fabric and increasing frustration.
You both started to strip each other of your ceremonial garments, the complex layers of fabric proving more challenging than anticipated. Frustration mounted as you struggled with the elaborate designs, each piece of clothing more intricate than the last.
With a determined smile, you reached for a more practical solution. Summoning your divine silk, you wove it into a series of precise, shimmering cuts through the elaborate layers of your wedding attire. The silk sliced through the fabric with divine ease, and in a matter of moments, your garments fell away in a flurry of silken threads. Minthara's ceremonial wear got the same treatment and as you finished, Minthara looked at you in awe.
âImpressive,â she breathed, her voice filled with admiration. Without hesitation, she moved back on top of you, her body pressing against yours with a renewed fervor as you fell back into the plush covers. She turned your head to the side as she straddled you at the waist, admiring your neck, specifically the House Baenre mark. âSuch pleasure it gives me, to have you beneath me, the one that escaped, now bearing my house mark, now my wife.â
Before you could respond to her, Minthara leant down and caught your lips in hers aggressively. Breasts rubbing against each other, you moved a hand down her side as she bit down on your bottom lip.
You dipped your hand between her thighs and were delighted to feel that she was just as turned on as you were. You began to rock her hips against yours creating a pleasurable friction between each of you aching cunts. Minthara gasped into your mouth and pulled away only to latch onto your neck.
You couldnât help but cry out as she kissed and nibbled your neck, increasing the pace as she grinded against you. Her kisses were accompanied by a slow, deliberate grind of her hips against yours, a rhythm that ignited every nerve ending. The heat of her body, the soft friction of her movements, and the unrestrained passion in her eyes made it clear that she was fully immersed in the moment.
With a fluid motion, she began to move her hips in a rhythmic, sensual dance, the friction between your bodies becoming a source of intense pleasure. The contact was both exhilarating and intimate, each movement bringing you closer to the edge of ecstasy. Her hands roamed over your skin, her touch leaving a trail of heated sensation.
"Mmm, yes- ah" You responded in kind, your hands gripping her hips as you matched the rhythm of her movements. You couldn't help but gasp as the shared pleasure intensified. The intensity of the moment was palpable, each touch and movement a testament to the passion that had ignited between you.
"I-ah-I am close, wife." There was such an intensity that Minthara addressed you that you couldn't help but arch your hips, the pleasure increasing tenfold. You were her wife, the most powerful woman in menzoberranzen was calling you wife, the power trip brought you closer to the edge.
Minthara was true to her word, and as you both neared climax you couldn't help but grunt each other's names into the other's mouth as you stole each other's oxygen greedily. Minthara bit down on your lip as she came, causing you to gasp and to your surprise you also came - funny, you never had taken yourself as a bit of a masochist but here you were, writhing in pleasure beneath the woman who murdered your family as your blood trickled down your jaw.
Lolth forgive you.
Determined not to be outdone, you took advantage of Mintharaâs brief recovery and shifted your position with purposeful grace. Straddling her now, you felt a renewed sense of control and intimacy. Your lips eagerly found their way to her neck, and you began to trace a path of fiery kisses and gentle nibbles along her sensitive skin. Mintharaâs breath came in soft, shuddering gasps as you made your mark on her.
âEager to make your mark, I see,â she purred, her voice a breathy whisper of delight. She held your head against her neck, her fingers tangled in your hair as she guided you to the most sensitive spots.
Each touch of your lips, each caress of your tongue, elicited delicious shudders from Minthara. You could feel her pulse quickening beneath your lips, her body responding eagerly to your attentions. When you hit a particularly sensitive spot, Minthara gasped sharply, her body arching slightly in response. You couldnât help but grin at the effect you were having on her.
The passion between you two intensified with each passing moment. You continued to kiss and bite her neck with an increasing rhythm, the pleasure you were both experiencing melding into a shared, fervent rhythm. Mintharaâs hands roamed over your back, pulling you closer, urging you to continue.
Your movements became more fluid and urgent, the desire between you two igniting with an almost primal intensity. You explored each other with fervor, your hands and lips mapping out every curve and contour of Mintharaâs body. The connection between you grew deeper, each touch and kiss a testament to the powerful, consuming passion that had taken hold of you both.
As the night wore on, the two of you became a tangled, passionate mess of limbs and pleasure. The room was filled with the sounds of your intimate interactionsâsoft moans, gasps, and the rhythmic creaking of the bed.
Exhaustion and satisfaction gradually began to replace the intense fervor. You and Mintharaâs movements slowed, the rhythm of your lovemaking transitioning from urgent and desperate to slow and tender. You took your time, savoring every caress and kiss as you both began to drift into a more relaxed, intimate connection.
Eventually, the intensity of the night gave way to a more gentle, romantic exchange. The passion was still present, but it was now wrapped in a softer, more affectionate embrace. You and Minthara held each other close, your bodies intertwined beneath the tangled sheets. The warmth of her skin against yours, the steady beat of her heart, and the soothing rhythm of your shared breaths created a cocoon of comfort and intimacy.
In the quiet of the early morning, the two of you drifted into a peaceful trance, still wrapped in each otherâs arms. The last remnants of the nightâs passion faded into a deep, contented sleep. Mintharaâs head rested gently against your shoulder, her breathing steady and calm. You held her close, feeling a profound sense of contentment and closeness.
However, the peaceful atmosphere was suddenly interrupted by a sharp knock on the door. Before either of you could fully awaken, the door swung open, and the High Priestess strode into the room with a mixture of authority and amusement. Her eyes quickly took in the sceneâthe two of you tangled together, the disheveled sheets, and the lingering evidence of the nightâs activities.
The High Priestessâs gaze flicked between you and Minthara with a wry smile. âIt seems you two have had quite the night,â she remarked, her voice laced with both amusement and a hint of disapproval. âI trust the consummation of your union was satisfactory?â
Startled, you and Minthara both stirred awake, trying to regain your composure. Mintharaâs cheeks flushed with a mix of embarrassment and irritation, though she quickly masked it with a defiant expression. You, still partially tangled in the sheets, tried to sit up, your mind racing to process the unexpected intrusion.
âWell, it appears youâve met the ceremonial requirements,â the High Priestess declared, her tone formal but with an undertone of mirth. Her gaze lingered on the love marks and the tangle of limbs before her, a satisfied smile playing on her lips.
Minthara, brushing stray locks of hair from her face, managed a snarky remark. âAnd when exactly, will this love magic, wear off?.â
The High Priestessâs laughter erupted suddenly, a deep, resonant sound that filled the room. You and Minthara exchanged bewildered glances, trying to decipher the reason for her amusement. In the midst of her laughter, the High Priestess managed to reveal a startling truth.
âOh, you poor fools,â she said between chuckles. âThere was no love magic in the toast. The toast was all part of the ceremony, but the effects were entirely of your own making. I simply wanted to... usher things along.â
Her satisfied laughter continued as she turned and left the room, leaving you both in stunned silence. The implications of her words began to sink in, the realization that everything you had experienced was the result of your own emotions and desires rather than any external enchantment.
Mintharaâs eyes met yours, a mixture of shock and confusion etched across her face. âSo, weâŚ" Minthara stopped to clear her throat. "We werenât under any magic?â
You shook your head, feeling a mixture of embarrassment and resignation as you pulled the sheets closer to you, suddenly feeling quite vulnerable. âIt appears so.â
A brief silence fell between you two, filled only with the sound of your deep breaths and the lingering aftereffects of the night. The reality of your situation, and the irony of it all, began to settle in.
âYou know,â Minthara said with a soft chuckle, âmaybe itâs just stress relief. Weâve both been through so much, and maybe⌠maybe itâs just easier to put it down to that.â
You nodded in agreement, a small smile tugging at the corners of your lips. âYes, I think that might be the simplest explanation. It was a lot of stress and emotion finally finding release.â
âYou know,â she said, her voice low and seductive, âif itâs truly just about stress relief, perhaps we could... go another round? Just to ensure that all that stress is thoroughly relieved.â
The question was delivered with a playful smirk, her eyes sparkling with mischief. The way she looked at you, the lingering passion from the night before evident in her gaze, made it clear that she was both serious and teasing.
You raised an eyebrow, feeling the faintest blush creep up your cheeks despite the earlier events. You should say no, really you should but, youâd both been through so much, and it was clear that you were still caught up in the aftereffects of the celebration - making it much easier to just write it off as that. You hesitated for a moment, then, with a chuckle, you decided to play along with her suggestion.
âWell,â you replied, your tone matching her playful mood, âif itâs truly for stress relief purposes... how could I possibly refuse?â
â â˘â â°âââ˝ŕźâžâââąâ â˘â
Now perfectly absolved of any form of stress, you prepared for lunch with your younger twin brothers, Kyorlin and Lesaonar. After the whirlwind of the wedding night and the High Priestess's abrupt interruption, you welcomed the prospect of a more relaxed engagement with family. The intricate details of the ceremony were behind you, and now you could focus on reconnecting with your siblings.
As you approached the smaller dining hall, saved for more private affairs and heard the sound of raised voices. The voices grew clearer as you neared, revealing the familiar bickering of your twin brothers.
Kyorlin was evidently agitated, gesticulating with an exaggerated sense of frustration. His sharp eyes were fixed on Lesaonar, who was attempting to avoid his twinâs intense gaze with a mixture of defiance and discomfort.
âIâm telling you, Lesaonar, I'm not stupid, I know itâs not normal to just disappear like that and then show up withââ Kyorlinâs voice cut off as he spotted you walking in. He straightened up, his expression shifting to a mixture of surprise and relief. âAh, there you are.â
Lesaonar, standing near the long dining table with a sheepish smile, offered a hasty wave. His neck, visible beneath the collar of his tunic, was adorned with several prominent love marksâclear evidence of a night spent in fervent company.
âLesaonar won't tell me who he was with last night,â Kyorlin continued, his tone now a mix of curiosity and frustration. âAnd now heâs showing up with these marks and wonât divulge a thing. I thought you might have some insight.â
You winced slightly at the implication. The thought of who Lesaonar might have spent the night with, especially after the night you had experienced yourself, was not one you were keen on pursuing. You offered a reassuring smile to your brother.
âTrust me, Kyorlin,â you said with a light laugh, âIâm as in the dark about Lesaonarâs nocturnal activities as you are. Some things are best left to the imagination or rather.. not.â
Lesaonarâs eyes softened with gratitude as he caught your gaze. âThank you for siding with me,â he said, his voice a mix of relief and playful mischief. âI knew I could count on you.â
Kyorlin raised an eyebrow, clearly still frustrated but willing to move on for the moment. âFine. Dearest sister, at least tell me how things are going with your new role.â
"Kyorlin are you lonely?" Lesaonar asks him, a mischevious smile on his face. "Is that why you keep asking about late night-"
"I could not have been referring more to how our sister feels as Mistress of the house, not about her wedding night, please, for the love of Lolth, do not tell me about your wedding night." Kyorlin stressed sending an irritated look to his twin.
You smiled at the two of them, at least some things would never change.
âAh yes, I am officially the Mistress of House Baenre,â you said, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible. âMinthara has already laid out a detailed itinerary for me this afternoon. Thereâs a lot to take in, and it seems the responsibilities come with their own set of demands. Nothing I cannot handle though dearest brothers."
The three of you fell into a joyeous and relaxed conversation, a needed relief from the intensity of the past few days. However, the lively banter between your brothers was interrupted as a servant approached, bowing respectfully. The servantâs attire was pristine and formal, indicative of the houseâs standards.
âExcuse me, Mistress,â the servant said with a polite but firm tone. âMatron Minthara requests your presence immediately.â
You frowned slightly. âBut Iâm not expected for another hour. Couldnât it wait until then?â
The servantâs expression remained unwavering. âIf Matron Minthara desires to see you now, it is imperative that you attend her. It matters not what the schedule dictates.â
You exchanged a quick look with Kyorlin and Lesaonar, who both raised eyebrows in silent curiosity. With a resigned sigh, you stood up from your seat.
âWell, it seems I must attend to the Matronâs wishes,â you said, attempting to sound composed despite the unexpected summons. âI will be back shortly - hopefully.â
The servant led you through the opulent corridors of House Baenre, the grand architecture and intricate decorations a constant reminder of the houseâs power and prestige. As you walked, your mind raced with thoughts about Mintharaâs sudden urgency. The atmosphere in the manor felt charged with authority, and you couldnât shake the feeling that Minthara was asserting her control in a rather dramatic fashion.
When you finally reached Mintharaâs private study, you were greeted by her standing confidently at the center of the room, her expression a mix of amusement and mock severity. Her regal posture and the way her eyes glinted suggested she was fully aware of the power she wielded over you.
âWell, if it isnât the Mistress of House Baenre herself,â Minthara said with a smirk, her tone both playful and commanding. âI couldnât possibly wait another moment to see how you were adjusting to your new role.â
You took a deep breath, forcing yourself to remain calm. Despite the irritation you felt, you refused to let Mintharaâs antics provoke a reaction. Instead, you decided to respond with a touch of humor.
âItâs sweet of you to miss me already,â you said with a teasing smile. âI didnât realize youâd grow so impatient in such a short time.â
Mintharaâs eyes widened slightly in surprise, a soft chuckle escaping her lips. âOh, itâs not impatience, dear. I simply wanted to remind you that, even as Mistress, you still answer to someone, to me.â
You crossed your arms and leaned against a nearby table, your smile remaining in place. âWell, itâs good to know youâre keeping an eye on me. I suppose I should be flattered.â
Mintharaâs demeanor softened slightly, and she took a step closer to you. âItâs just a little reminder of who holds the reins around here,â she said, her tone becoming more affectionate. âIâve no doubt youâll handle everything with grace, but a little reminder never hurts.â
Mintharaâs gaze softened, but there was a glint of mischief in her eyes as she began to outline your responsibilities. She walked over to a large, ornate desk where she had clearly been reviewing some documents. Picking up a scroll, she waved it in front of you with an exaggerated flourish.
âAs Mistress of House Baenre,â Minthara began, her tone carrying a mix of authority and playful condescension, âyou are now responsible for managing the staff. This includes overseeing the daily operations and ensuring that all duties are performed to our standards. You will also be in charge of the younger members of the house, guiding them and ensuring their behavior aligns with our expectations.â
"Oh those little darlings? They will be no worry to me I assure you," You smiled, reminiscing on your wedding morning despite it not being even a full day ago. "It's amazing what some interest and an ear to lend does to the most unruly of souls."
Minthara glared at you, she had already realised her plan to set her disordely younger relatives on you had backfired. They all seemed to adore you and looked up to you with reverance she could only receive from fear.
Minthara took a breath in and let your comments wash over her, deciding to move on to the most important matter. âAnd, of course, you must ensure that I am satisfied with your performance. My expectations are quite high, and I trust you will rise to the challenge.â
You scoffed lightly, not taking her overly serious demeanor too much to heart. âWell, I suppose someone has to make sure everything runs smoothly around here. And who better than me?â
Mintharaâs smile widened, clearly thinking she had successfully asserted her dominance. âIndeed. Iâm sure youâll find the tasks quite fulfilling, if not demanding.â
Just as she seemed ready to revel in her perceived victory, you leaned forward with a confident grin. âOh and by the way, Iâve already arranged for replacements for the assassins you⌠eliminated. Handpicked, I might add.â
Mintharaâs expression shifted to one of surprise and mild annoyance. âWhat are you implying? I have already taken care of the replacements.â
You raised an eyebrow, your tone calm and unwavering. âYes, but I took it upon myself to handle that particular duty. As you said itâs part of my role as Mistress, not yours. I wouldnât want to burden you with the minutiae of every little detail. Especially considering your poor choice last time. I mean this is how we got into this predicament to begin with.â
Minthara scoffed and her brow furrowed slightly, and she opened her mouth to protest. âButââ
You interrupted with a gentle but firm voice. âItâs my responsibility now, dearest wife. Iâm fully capable of managing these aspects of the house without adding unnecessary stress to your already demanding role.â
She hesitated for a moment, then sighed in reluctant acceptance. The assasins would be loyal to you of course and no doubt be more difficult for her to order around. Plus Minthara was sure they would eagerly come running back to you with every detail they could. A minor issue. âVery well. I suppose itâs only fair that you handle it as part of your duties.â
You offered her a reassuring smile, feeling a sense of satisfaction at having asserted your role effectively. âThank you for understanding. I assure you, Iâll handle everything with the utmost attention and dedication.â
Mintharaâs cocked her head at you, an irritated look in her eye. âI have no doubt you will. Just remember, Iâm always here if you need guidanceâor if you decide you want to test the limits of your new responsibilities.â
It was not advice, you noted, it was a warning - don't get too confident. As you prepared to leave her quarters, you could feel the weight of your new responsibilities settling over you. The dynamic between you and Minthara had already begun to shape itself, a blend of authority, affection, and mutual respect. With a final, confident smile, you turned and exited the room, ready to face the challenges of your new position with determination.
â â˘â â°âââ˝ŕźâžâââąâ â˘â
The evening had settled into a calm, deceptive quiet as you prepared for dinner with Minthara that night. After the tension of the day, you hoped for a peaceful meal, a chance to enjoy a moment of calm in the whirlwind of your new responsibilities. You had almost convinced yourself that Minthara had forgotten about the acolyte matter, that perhaps she had been too preoccupied with flexing her authority over you that she had forgotten the whole matter completely.
As you entered the dining hall, Minthara was already seated, a serene yet calculating expression on her face. The table was set elegantly, with flickering candles casting a soft glow over the polished surface. You exchanged the usual pleasantries, the conversation flowing easily enough, but there was an undercurrent of tension that you couldn't quite shake.
Halfway through the meal, you heard the soft, ominous click of the door locking behind you. Your heart sank as you realized that Minthara had not forgotten. In fact, it seemed she had been waiting for the right moment to address the issue that had been lingering between you. Minthara leaned back in her chair, her eyes narrowing slightly as she studied you.
"You didnât think I would forget, did you, darling?" she asked, her tone deceptively mild. "The matter of the acolyte?"
You took a deep breath, trying to maintain your composure. "Minthara, the acolyte sought to kill you during the vow. I healed you when you were injured, and then I caught her in the chapel. Lolth herself turned her into a drider and dragged her into the depths of the Underdark. Thereâs nothing more to it."
Mintharaâs gaze sharpened, her expression hardening with suspicion, you had hoped the comment about the drider would lead her astray that she woul dbe in awe of such an occurence that she would forget her true mission.
"Thatâs a convenient story. But you are not known to be a healer, at least not one with the talent to save someone from such an injury." Minthara bit out, raising from her chair and beginning to approach you. "And why would Lolth, the Spider Queen herself, intervene on your behalf? Why does she favor you? And itâs not just your familyâs devotion."
The questions hung in the air, heavy with the weight of implications you had hoped to avoid. Mintharaâs skepticism was palpable, her distrust evident in the way she leaned toward you, her eyes locked onto yours.
"I told you the truth," you insisted, but there was a tremor in your voice that you couldnât quite suppress. "I did what I had to do to protect you, to protect our house. Lolthâs will is beyond our understanding. Accept it Minthara."
Mintharaâs displeasure was evident, her lips curling into a cold smile. "Itâs all too convenient, donât you think? You expect me to believe that everything happened exactly as you said, without any further explanation? No, thereâs more to this, and I intend to find out."
She stood, her movements deliberate and controlled, as if she were savoring the power she held over you. "Neither of us are leaving this room until you tell me the whole truth. And for every hour you withhold it, my guards will beat Kyorlin."
The mention of Kyorlin sent a surge of anger through you. You pushed your chair back and stood, your eyes flashing with fury. "You canât do that! I wonât let you harm him."
"I have every right to discipline him after he attacked Arys in the library, or did your dearest brother not tell you about it? Such disorder among you." Mintharaâs smile widened, but there was no warmth in it, only a cold, calculating cruelty. "You will tell me what I want to know, or Kyorlin will suffer the consequences. Itâs your choice."
Desperation clawed at you as you turned toward the door, intent on leaving. You would use your magic to break it down if you had to. But as you summoned your power, you felt an emptiness where your magic should have been. Panic began to rise as you realized that your abilities were gone, as if snuffed out by an invisible force.
Mintharaâs laughter rang out, dark and triumphant. "Did you really think I wouldnât take precautions? Your wine was spiked with essence of sussur. Your magic is gone, and it wonât return for at least a day. Youâre powerless, wife."
The weight of her words crashed down on you, the reality of your situation sinking in. Minthara had planned this from the beginning, ensuring that you had no means of escape, no way to fight back. You were trapped, at her mercy, with no magic and no way to protect your brother.
Your breath came in shallow gasps as you faced her, the room closing in around you. Minthara took a step closer, her voice a whisper of silk and steel. "Now, tell me the truth, or Kyorlin will pay the price for your stubbornness."
The stakes had never been higher, and the path before you had never been more treacherous. Minthara had you cornered, and the only way out was to reveal the secret you had fought so hard to keep.
The room fell into a tense silence as Mintharaâs threat hung in the air. Your heart raced, but you steeled yourself, determined not to show any fear. You refused to believe that she would harm Kyorlinâher authority only extended so far, and you knew your brother was capable of taking care of himself. This had to be a bluff, an attempt to break your resolve.
"Youâre bluffing, Minthara," you said, your voice firm despite the flicker of doubt that gnawed at your confidence. "You wonât harm Kyorlin. He is your brother by marriage. Itâs not in your best interest."
Mintharaâs eyes narrowed, her expression hardening as she turned toward the door. Without a word, she opened it and motioned for someone to enter. The door creaked fully open, and two guards stepped inside, dragging a figure between them. Your heart lurched as you saw the familiar form of Kyorlin, his face bruised and bloodied, his expression a mixture of pain and defiance.
âNo!â The word tore from your throat as you instinctively rushed toward him, desperate to reach your brother.
But Minthara was faster, her grip like iron as she seized your arm, holding you back with a strength you had no hope of beating. "And what exactly do you think you are doing, beloved?"
Kyorlin looked up at you, his eyes filled with a mixture of apology and determination. He tried to speak, but the guards tightened their hold on him, pulling him violently back toward the door by his throat.
âTake him away,â Minthara ordered coldly, her gaze never leaving yours as the guards obeyed, dragging Kyorlin out of the room. You struggled against Mintharaâs grip, your heart shattering as you watched your brother disappear through the door. The echo of the door slamming shut behind him felt like the final nail in the coffin.
Tears of frustration and helplessness welled in your eyes as you finally stopped struggling, your body going limp in Mintharaâs grasp. She released you, allowing you to stumble back, your breath coming in ragged gasps. You felt the walls of your resolve crumbling, the weight of Mintharaâs power pressing down on you until you could no longer bear it.
"Alright," you whispered, your voice trembling with a mixture of despair and defiance. "You win, Minthara. Iâll tell you everything. But I warn you, the truth is something you wonât like."
Mintharaâs expression remained unreadable, but you could see the glint of satisfaction in her eyes as she waited for you to continue. You took a deep breath, steadying yourself for the revelation that was about to change everything.
"Yes, Lolth favors me," you began, your voice growing stronger as you spoke. "She favors me not just because of my devotion, but because I am her descendant. My lineage comes from an aasimar named Liakyre."
Mintharaâs eyes widened in shock and disbelief. "An aasimar?" she scoffed. "Lolth has no aasimar children. You expect me to believe this?"
You couldnât help but laugh softly, a bitter, mirthless sound that echoed through the room. "No, youâre right. Lolth has no aasimar children. But Eilistraee does. Liakyre is the aasimar daughter of Eilistraee, the so-called 'benevolent' goddess, the traitor. But Liakyre saw through Eilistraeeâs lies and fell back into Lolthâs embraceâher grandmotherâs embrace."
Mintharaâs eyes narrowed, her skepticism deepening as she tried to process the information. "Youâre lying. This is absurd. Why would Lolth accept a descendant of Eilistraee, her sworn enemy?"
You met her gaze, your expression unwavering. "Think about it, Minthara. What better way to damn Eilistraee than to take her own daughter and make her Lolth's perfect paragon? What better way to mock the 'Dark Maiden' than to ensure that her legacy, her blood is tied forever to Lolthâs greatest house? Eilistraee's greatest loss, the most celebrated figure in the underdark."
Mintharaâs lips pressed into a thin line, her mind racing as she considered your words. You could see the conflict in her eyes, the struggle to reconcile the truth with the deep-seated beliefs she had held all her life. But the evidence was undeniable, and as the realization dawned on her, you could see the anger and betrayal beginning to simmer beneath her composed exterior.
"And what of the contract that bound us together, Minthara?" you continued, pressing your advantage. "The miraculous contract that made me your wife. You think that was a coincidence? No, wife. That was Lolthâs will, ensuring that Liakyreâs bloodline would be firmly entrenched within House Baenre. This is her plan, this is her way."
Mintharaâs silence stretched on, the air between you thick with tension. You watched as her expression shifted, the fury in her eyes fading, replaced by something far more unnervingâa slow, creeping smirk that sent a chill down your spine. It was a look of triumph, of satisfaction, as if the final piece of a puzzle had clicked into place in her mind.
She turned to you, her smirk widening as she stepped closer. The weight of her presence was suffocating, and despite your resolve, you couldnât help but feel a growing unease. She reached out, taking your hand in hers with a surprising gentleness, lifting it to her lips. The touch of her lips against your skin was cold, calculated, and filled with a twisted kind of affection.
âThank you,â she whispered, her voice soft yet dripping with mockery. âThank you for finally telling the truth. You have no idea how much this means to me.â Her eyes gleamed with a sinister light as she released your hand, her smirk deepening into something almost feral.
Without another word, she turned on her heel and strode toward the door, her steps deliberate and unhurried. You stood frozen, a mix of shock and confusion swirling in your mind. This wasnât the reaction you had expected. You had anticipated rage, perhaps even violence, but not⌠this.
Minthara paused at the doorway, glancing back at you with that same unnerving smirk. Then, with a final, almost casual wave of her hand, she exited the room, leaving you standing there, your heart pounding in your chest.
For a moment, you simply stood there, trying to process what had just happened. The oppressive atmosphere that had filled the room seemed to lift slightly, and you realized with a jolt that the door was no longer locked. You were free to leave.
Without wasting another moment, you rushed to the door, pushing it open and nearly stumbling into the corridor. The fear and anger that had built up inside you now fueled your steps as you raced through the halls of House Baenre, desperate to find Kyorlin.
You burst into the family quarters, your breath ragged from the sprint, and stopped short as you saw Kyorlin sitting at a table, chatting animatedly with Lesaonar. They both looked up as you entered, Kyorlinâs expression shifting from surprise to concern.
âSister, whatâs wrong?â Kyorlin asked, standing up from his seat. There wasnât a single mark on himâno bruises, no signs of the beating Minthara had claimed. He was perfectly unharmed, his face alight with the carefree demeanor he always had around his twin.
âYouâre⌠youâre okay,â you stammered, the relief flooding over you like a wave. It was all a lie. Minthara had deceived you. The 'Kyorlin' you had seen was all a ruse.
Kyorlin frowned, exchanging a puzzled glance with Lesaonar. âOf course I am. Why wouldnât I be?â
You sank into a nearby chair, your legs suddenly feeling weak. The realization of how thoroughly youâd been manipulated settled in, leaving a bitter taste in your mouth. Minthara had played you perfectly, using your love for your brother to break you down and extract the truth she wanted.
Kyorlin, noticing your distress, moved to your side, his hand resting comfortingly on your shoulder. âWhat happened? What did she do?â
You shook your head, struggling to gather your thoughts amidst the turmoil. âShe⌠she tricked me. I thought you were in danger. I thought she was going to have you beaten until I told her the truth.â
Kyorlinâs eyes widened with shock, his expression shifting quickly to anger. âThat iblith.â
You winced at his use of the derogatory term, though you understood his frustration. âKyorlin, you cannot say that,â you said firmly, trying to keep the situation from escalating further. âWe donât need more reasons for her to come after us.â
The reminder of Mintharaâs threat made you think of something she had mentioned. You turned to Kyorlin, your curiosity getting the better of you. âWhat happened between you and Arys, Mintharaâs nephew? I heard about an incident in the library.â
Kyorlinâs face tensed, and he shifted uncomfortably. He had kept this matter close to his chest, and it showed in his nervousness.
âIâI didnât want to worry you,â he stammered. âBut⌠Lesaonar had too much to drink and started talking about family secrets. I⌠I attacked Arys because I didnât want those secrets getting out. I did it to protect us.â
Lesaonarâs face twisted into a mix of annoyance and irritation. âYou attacked Arys? And didnât even bother to tell me? Whatâs the big idea?â
Kyorlinâs face reddened with both guilt and irritation. âWell, maybe if you didnât get so drunk and start blabbing, we wouldnât have had to deal with this.â
The conversation was quickly escalating into a full-blown argument. The tension in the room thickened, and you could see that neither brother was about to back down.
Before the argument could spiral further, you raised your hand, cutting through the noise. âEnough. I need to get some rest before my head explodes from all this chaos.â
Both Kyorlin and Lesaonar fell silent, their faces reflecting a mixture of frustration and resignation. You excused yourself from the room, your mind racing with the dayâs events. The thought of Minthara still waiting for you in your quarters only added to your stress.
You returned to your chambers, hoping against hope itself that Minthara would be out dealing with her sinister plans or something equally nefarious. But as you entered, you were greeted by the sight of Minthara lounging on the bed, her expression an unsettling blend of mock sympathy and amusement.
She looked up as you entered, her eyes twinkling with mischief. âOh, look whoâs finally here,â she said, her voice dripping with a saccharine sweetness. âHad a hard day, did we? Perhaps youâre in need of some stress relief?â
"I would rather feed myself to the spiders." You smiled tightly back to her. You didn't give her the satisfaction of bringing up Kyorlin, you knew she was relishing in the psychological warfare she had enacted.
You began to undress, your movements mechanically efficient. The tension of the day had left you drained, and the thought of a quiet night seemed like a distant hope. You quickly prepared for bed, shedding the dayâs formal attire in favor of more comfortable garments.
As you slid between the cool, silk sheets, Minthara watched with an almost predatory gaze. Her eyes followed your every move, and you could feel her presence growing more pronounced as she approached the bed.
Without waiting for an invitation, Minthara smoothly slid into the bed beside you. Her touch was deliberate and firm as she pulled you into her embrace, her body a warm contrast to the cool sheets. You instinctively tensed, trying to create some distance between the two of you.
âNo, no,â Minthara murmured, her voice soft but insistent. âYou need to relax, my love.â
You squirmed slightly, trying to extricate yourself from her hold, but Minthara's arms were unyielding. She wrapped around you with a possessive tenderness, her warmth enveloping you despite your protests.
âMinthara," you said, your voice strained as you tried to maintain a semblance of resistance. âI need to sleep.â
She only chuckled softly, the sound a low, soothing rumble against your ear. âHush, my dear. Youâre my wife, You need to relax and unwind. Youâve had a very long, stressful day.â
Despite your best efforts, the exhaustion and emotional strain of the day began to take their toll. Mintharaâs warmth was surprisingly comforting, and as you lay there, you found it increasingly difficult to maintain your resistance. Finally, you relented, sinking into her embrace with a tired sigh. The soft rhythm of her breathing and the steady warmth of her body gradually coaxed you into a state of uneasy relaxation. Mintharaâs arms tightened around you, and she nuzzled her cheek against your temple.
âThere, isnât that better?â she whispered, her voice laced with affectionate satisfaction. âYouâre my darling little divine one, and Iâll take care of you.â
The endearment, while somewhat mocking, held a certain warmth that made you feel a little more secure, despite the complex feelings swirling within you. As you lay there in her arms, you allowed yourself to succumb to the quiet comfort of her embrace, hoping that sleep would come and bring some respite from the chaos of the day.

A/N: Itâs that time of year when it gets fucking cold outside. I donât like it. So have this (Apologies because Iâm writing this through severe brain fog & migraine right now.)Â
(Ëś Ë ÂłË)Ëáľ ËËś)
Astarion:Â
Entangled. Touchy. Astarionâs like a cat in that heâll always end up seeking you out for heat. He sort of wraps his lithe frame around you, that slender body of his locking yours into place. Itâs unintentional, and he certainly doesnât fall asleep that way. But as the night goes on, and the wind grows loud, he searches for the comfort of your senses- your breath, your heartbeat, and of course, the warmth of your skin.Â
Gale:Â
Serene. Paired. Gale isnât known for snuggling close unless youâre counting all the nights Teraâs spent curled up asleep on his lap. He tosses and turns quite a bit in the night, and has the worst sleeping habits known to man. By the time he comes to bed, youâre already fast asleep. Heâll clamor in next to you, feeling the tension leave his body as his rests next to yours. Just being close to you, even in sleep, sets something right in his soul.Â
Wyll:
Protected. Warm. Wyll isnât a heavy sleeper and is prone to waking frequently. At first, every little noise you make, every gasp or shift in your position leaves him awake, frozen in silence, vigilantly waiting for you to wake. It takes him some time to calm his body down, and for his mind to adjust to the sporadic tranquility of sleeping next to the one you love. Once heâs accustomed to your little quirks, he finds he gets the best sleep with you close, one arm wrapped around you for protection.Â
Karlach:Â
Toasty. Enclosed. Karlach runs hot, thereâs no doubt about it. So she doesnât need tons of blankets or fire to stay warm, whereas you usually do. But not anymore. Now, she acts as your blanket. It does take a bit of practice, on how to balance the closeness of your skin, the pillows, and the bedroll ⌠Itâs a bit of a puzzle, but once you get locked in right, itâs like sleeping in a heavenly warm cocoon.Â
Laâzel:
Distant. Safe. Laâzel is NOT a cuddler by any means, nor are Githyanki known for being particularly deep sleepers. However, because she loves you, she tolerates your need for proximity during rest. She permits you to curl up into her side as she lays rigidly next to you. Her ears are always listening for a noise in the distance. But she also comes to enjoy listening to your steady breaths as you sleep, lulling her into an atmosphere of security.Â
Shadowheart:Â
Sweet. Dear. Shadowheart may project an edgy vibe, but sheâs a deeply caring person. She craves your affection and will seek it out, especially in sleep. She prefers to be the little spoon but will take turns being the big spoon if you insist. Always asks you to help braid her hair as she drifts off to sleep. The gentle touches and soft rustling remind her of the tender future she dreams of sharing with you.Â
Halsin:Â
Surrounded. Smooshed. Halsin is big. Heâs wide and tall and enjoys using his build to his advantage when it comes to holding you. He loves wrapping his body around you, his arms and legs holding you tight against his chest, providing a soothing compression. Or, if you prefer, use his chest as your pillow. His broad hairy chest tickles your nose as you nuzzle into him. His large hands rest securely on your back and waist ensuring you wonât slide off.Â
Minthara:Â
Conservative. Guarded. Minthara is used to being on careful watch for her many enemies. The Underdark is not a forgiving place. She is not used to being so vulnerable as to willingly sleep next to someone, but you are the exception. But old habits die hard. She often sits up, next to your sleeping form. Sheâll study your features lovingly in the moonlight, as she watches for any creatures who dare disturb your rest. Theyâll never lay a hand on you. Sheâll ensure no one disturbs your slumber.Â

The boys reacting to reader collapsing from exhaustion please?
Gale:
The stars had just begun to glimmer overhead, the velvet sky above the Shadow-Cursed Lands dimming into the kind of darkness that swallowed sound. The campfires crackled gently, casting flickering halos of warmth against the long stretch of gloom, but you were still going. Still walking. Still sorting. Still preparing.
You hadnât rested. Not really. Not since that last fight, not since the argument with the goblins in the pass, not since the near ambush from twisted shadows. Youâd kept your pace steady, your shoulders square, pushing through the weight in your limbs and the ache behind your eyes. You thought if you just did one more thing, the tension would stop building in your chest.
But your body had other plans.
You didnât even remember falling. One moment you were standing, checking your gear, your fingertips trembling from fatigue, and the nextâ
Blackness.
A quiet thump. The faint scuffle of feet on earth.
Then a voice, fraying at the edges with fear:
âWaitâwait! No, no, noâgods, pleaseâ!â
You came to slowly, like rising through molasses, every sound muffled by a distant ringing. The smell of lavender and parchment hit your senses before anything elseâthen warmth. Gale. He was crouched beside you, cradling your head with trembling fingers, his brow furrowed with frantic concentration.
His face was pale beneath the firelight, lips pressed in a tight line, panic storming behind his eyes like thunderclouds.
âThere you are,â he breathed, voice rough, like he hadnât realized heâd been holding his breath until you stirred. âYouâby Mystraâs grace, you scared the life out of me.â
You tried to sit up. âIâm fineââ
âNo, you are not,â Gale snapped. The edge in his voice shocked youâit was so rare, so unlike his usual soft-spoken warmth. But it cracked with strain, with the sharp weight of helplessness. âYou collapsed. Not tripped. Not stumbled. Collapsed. Youâve been running yourself ragged, and you think I wouldnât notice?â
You blinked at him, throat dry. âI justâthere was a lot to do. I didnât mean toââ
âYou didnât mean to?â he echoed, his eyes going wide, almost wounded. âThat somehow makes it better?â
His hands trembled as he brushed dirt from your cheek, then stilled when he cupped your jaw gently. âYou canât keep doing this to yourself. You donât have to carry it all.â
You looked away, ashamedâbecause you had been trying to carry it all. Because you didnât want to be a burden. Because you thought if you didnât slow down, maybe everything else wouldnât catch up.
But Gale wasnât done.
âYou think I wouldnât burn the very weave itself if it meant keeping you safe?â he asked, his voice suddenly soft again, but still fierce. âYou think your worth is measured by how much pain you can ignore?â
Your lip trembled, just a little. âI didnât want you to worry.â
He gave a short, humorless laugh, eyes glistening. âThen youâve failed spectacularly.â
You smiled despite yourself, and Gale immediately folded forward, resting his forehead against yours, his breath warm and shaking.
âIâm sorry,â you whispered.
He closed his eyes, pressing a kiss to your temple. âDonât apologize. Just let me help. You donât have to prove your strength by hiding your exhaustion. Not from me.â
He helped you sit up, guiding you gently like you were made of glassâhis hands constantly checking for bruises or signs of injury, his eyes flicking across your face like he might lose you again if he looked away too long.
âIâll rest,â you murmured finally.
âYouâll rest now,â Gale corrected, brushing your hair back. âAnd youâll let me stay, even if all I can do is hold you while you sleep. Agreed?â
ââŚAgreed.â
And so he settled in beside you, holding you close beneath the stars, heart still racing, fingers still tremblingâbut never letting go.
Astarion:
The campfire crackled gently in the distance, its glow barely brushing the edges of the clearing as the evening slipped into deeper shades of indigo. The world beyond was all hush and shadow, quieted by the oppressive weight of the Shadow-Cursed Lands. Everyone had started winding down, preparing for rest. Everyone except you.
You had been pacingârelentlessly. Repacking your gear. Polishing a blade youâd already sharpened twice. Pretending that the tremble in your limbs wasnât there. That the weight behind your eyes didnât burn. That you hadnât been pushing yourself beyond the brink for days.
And then, quite simplyâyour body gave out.
Your knees folded. The world tilted. And the last thing you heard was a very undignified shout:
âOh forâyou dramatic idiot!â
You woke with a sharp inhale, but the moment you stirred, cold hands were already gripping your shoulders, a familiar voice hissing through clenched teeth:
âDonât you dare try to sit up.â
Astarion loomed over you, silver hair in slight disarray, cravat askew, red eyes wild with something that looked like furyâbut was far too sharp-edged to be anger alone. He was kneeling at your side, holding you like you were made of glass and pure trouble at once.
âYou absolute menace,â he growled, inspecting you as if he might hex your exhaustion into submission. âI knew you were overdoing it. I told you. And what do you do? You drop like a sack of poorly stitched laundry!â
You blinked slowly, confused. âAstarionââ
âAnd not gracefully, mind you,â he continued, indignant. âYou just crumpled. I had to catch you like some harlequin in a second-rate opera. I nearly broke a nail.â
Despite the scolding, his hands were maddeningly gentle, checking your pulse, brushing back damp hair from your forehead. He was so close you could smell the faint hint of bergamot and aged leather. You could feel the tension in his jaw, in the way his fingers curled ever so slightly into your sleeve as if grounding himself.
âIâm sorry,â you murmured, voice hoarse.
He froze.
And then something shifted.
Astarionâs eyes softenedânot much, but enough to crack the veneer of aristocratic outrage. He sighed, exasperated and... undeniably worried.
âGods, darling, what were you thinking?â he said, this time quieter. âYou looked like death warmed over hours ago. Why didnât you say something? Or sit? Or, Mystra forbid, actually rest?â
You tried to offer a weak smile. âDidnât want to trouble anyone.â
His face twisted like youâd just said the most offensive thing imaginable.
âTroubleâ? Oh, how dare you,â he snapped, but now it sounded almost... wounded. âYou think I waste my charms on just anyone? You think I go around catching unconscious fools for fun? You are my trouble, you idiot.â
He pulled you upright against his chest with surprising tenderness, wrapping his arms around you as he shifted you into his lap, cradling you like something precious and exasperating all at once. You could feel the way his thumb traced circles along your spine, even as he clicked his tongue in disapproval.
âI swear, if you ever scare me like that again, Iâllâwell, Iâll write a very strongly worded sonnet about your irresponsibility.â
You laughed softly against his shoulder. âA poem? Thatâs my punishment?â
âI am an artist of many talents, thank you very much,â he said primly. âBut donât tempt me. Iâll make it rhymed and awful.â
You looked up at him through tired eyes, heart aching with affection. âYou were worried about me.â
âOh, perish the thought,â he sniffed dramatically. âI was worried about me. What would I do if my favorite pillow went and died from pure stubbornness?â
And yet he pulled the blanket tighter around you. And his hand never left yours. And he didnât stop holding youânot for the rest of the night.
Furious, indeed.
Wyll:
The world drifted back in slow fragmentsâlight, sound, breath. You stirred, faintly aware of something heavy draped across you, of warmth pressed along your side, of a steady rhythm pulsing through fabric and skin: a heartbeat, far too quick to be your own.
âWyll?â your voice came out as a rasp, thick and uncertain.
He did not move.
Your eyes blinked open to find him kneeling at your side, bent low, his forehead resting just over your heart like he was listening for somethingâproof you were still there, still beating beneath his hands. His fingers gripped your shirt, knuckles white, the rest of him utterly still save for the occasional tremble that betrayed just how close he was to coming undone.
ââŚYouâre awake,â he whispered, voice hoarse, like speaking louder might break whatever fragile reality heâd constructed around himself while you were unconscious.
âIâm fine,â you croaked, trying to push yourself up.
Instantly, Wyll surged upward, pressing a firm hand to your shoulder and another to your hip, holding you flat against the bedroll with all the strength of someone who had just seen the person they love go limp and collapse in front of them. His dark eyes were wide, frantic, and furiousânot at you, but at the helplessness clawing at him from the inside.
âDonât you dare try to move,â he growled. âNot after that stunt.â
âI said Iâm fine,â you muttered, wriggling against his grip. âI just overdid it a littleââ
âYou collapsed,â he snapped. âLike a marionette with its strings cut. One minute you were walking, talking, and the nextââ He choked, fingers tightening for a split second. âYou hit the ground and IâI thought you were dead.â
You opened your mouth to dismiss him again, to soothe, but Wyll leaned in, his voice low and sharp like flint striking steel.
âYou donât get to tell me this is nothing,â he hissed. âBecause if you keep running yourself into the ground like this, someday it wonât just be a collapse. Itâll be you not waking up. And Iââ He shook his head, his expression crumpling. âI canât go through that.â
âWyllââ
âI need you to understand what it does to me,â he interrupted, suddenly, dangerously close. âTo see you fall and not know if Iâll ever hear your voice again. So if I seem dramatic, if I seem over-the-top, itâs because Iâm trying to teach you something.â
He exhaled sharply, dragging a hand through his curls. His tail flicked with restless tension behind him.
âBecause when the real thing happensâwhen I do lose youâIâll be ruined. You are the flame I measure all warmth by. And if that flame ever goes outâŚâ
He swallowed hard. âThen Iâm nothing but ash.â
Your heart twisted at the way his voice faltered, how the last word was barely more than a breath.
You tried to sit up again, to offer some comfortâbut he lunged, practically threw himself down, sprawling across your torso like an overgrown, armored cat with an overdeveloped sense of righteous vengeance.
âYou are resting.â His voice was muffled against your chest, but the weight of his body was firm, final, and very much unmoving.
You blinked. ââŚAre you pinning me down?â
âYes.â
âYou weigh a thousand pounds.â
âI will increase it if I have to.â
You sighed, flopping back with a groan of surrender. âYouâre being ridiculous.â
âAnd youâre being reckless,â he retorted, not budging. âSo now weâre even.â
There was a long silence. Then a quiet chuckle slipped out of you, reluctant but real. You carded your fingers through his hair, letting the tension bleed from your limbs.
âFine. Iâll rest.â
Wyll tilted his head just enough to press a kiss to your sternum, his voice a low murmur. âThatâs all I ever wanted.â
Halsin:
The moment your eyes cracked open, you knew you were in trouble.
The air inside Halsinâs tent was thick with the scent of dried herbs and pine resin, heavy with the warmth of the furs layered beneath you. It was dimâhis tent flap drawn shutâbut soft light filtered in, revealing the familiar shape of his travel gear stacked in its usual meticulous order. The cot creaked softly beneath you as you shifted, muscles aching, limbs leaden. There was a wet cloth resting on your brow, cool and fragrant with some kind of forest mint.
You had absolutely, unequivocally passed out from exhaustion.
And Halsin had clearly been the one to find you.
A groan built low in your throat, and with it came your brilliant idea: sneak out. Maybeâjust maybeâyou could slink off before he returned. You didnât relish the idea of a lecture from a near seven-foot-tall druid whose entire body seemed to be carved from oak and thunderclouds.
You swung your legs over the cot, wincing as the rush of dizziness hit you. But you were determined. Quiet. Graceful. Almost at theâ
âWhere,â came a low, thunderous voice from behind, âdo you think youâre going?â
You froze mid-step. Slowly, guiltily, you turned.
And there he wasâHalsinâmassive, bare-chested, his thick arms crossed over his chest, golden eyes narrowed and jaw clenched with a sternness that belonged more to a storm than a man.
âAh,â you said. âI was justâstretching.â
Before you could retreat or formulate another weak excuse, he closed the space between you with startling speed, scooped you up like you weighed nothing at all, and slung you over his shoulder.
âHalsin!â you protested, smacking at his back as he turned and carried youâwithout effort, without ceremonyâright back to bed. âPut me down!â
âYouâre lucky Iâm not tying you to the cot,â he rumbled, voice edged with exasperated affection. âYou collapsed in the middle of the clearing. In front of everyone. I had to carry you back hereâtwice, apparently.â
He set you down with far more care than his grumbling suggested, adjusting the furs around you, his large hands surprisingly gentle as they brushed a damp curl from your temple. Then, without another word, he reached behind him and produced a small bundle of cloth.
He opened it to reveal a collection of deep red and violet berries nestled in soft moss. âI foraged these. You need to eat.â
You blinked. âHalsin, Iââ
âEat,â he said simply, with that patient, immovable tone he used when dealing with stubborn animals and, apparently, stubborn lovers.
You gave him a sheepish look, but obeyed, popping a few of the berries into your mouth. They were sweet, tart, and immediately grounding. Halsin watched you the entire time, gaze softening only after he saw you swallow a second mouthful.
Once satisfied, he slid in beside you, the cot creaking in protest beneath his weight. You barely had time to blink before his arms wrapped around you, strong and encompassing, pulling you into the heat of his chest. One leg tangled with yours as he pulled the furs up around both of you.
âYou frightened me,â he murmured, his voice low and close to your ear, breath warm against your hair. âI have seen wounds. Disease. Poison. But watching you crumble from something so preventable? It... it undid me.â
âIâm sorry,â you whispered, voice already thick and slipping into sleep again. âDidnât mean toââ
âShh,â he whispered, pressing a kiss to your temple. âNo apologies. Just rest.â
You tried to protest, but your words slurred, consciousness unraveling like smoke. You barely registered his arms tightening around you protectively, his deep voice rumbling softly as he murmured something soothing in Druidic, something meant to lull, to calm.
âIâll watch over you,â he promised into your hair. âYou are safe now. Just sleep.â
And this time, you listened.
IM BACK WITH THE BOYS ugh I love it, also I'm on a dark bg3 brain rot so that will be the next post. Hope you guys enjoyed this and thank you all for your contiued support!- Seluney xox

My HCs about Halsin the herbalist include him treating his own post traumatic symptoms, as well as subtly treating the rest of the tadfools over time.
I imagine him with an old and lovingly carved tea chest that is full of blends for every possible ailment and also for the pure enjoyment of sipping.
I imagine him with a leather pouch always full of dried herbs ready to be rolled and smoked or burned in a bowl like incense. Nobody ever has nightmares when Halsin is there.
He embodies a particular sort of quiet nurturing to me, a hard one sense of self that is grounded in being your own support system and your own truest friend. Maybe I'm just modeling him after my own autistic experiences.
I made a mistake in my request so please delete it! Can I request headcanons for Astarion, Gale, Wyll, and Halsin reacting to his gn crush telling him that they're not worthy to be with him please?
Astarion
âWorthy? Pft. When is anyone worthy of anything darling? Who decides who is worthy? We simply have to reach out and take it! And Iâve already grown quite fond of you.â
In truth, bile rises in Astarionâs throat when you say those words. He knows what it means to feel unworthy. To feel unworthy to live. To breathe. To exist. For you, the only person heâs ever cared for & truly cared for him in return, to feel this way makes him sick. Unfortunately heâs the worst person to fix this problem. Heâs never felt âworthyâ of anything in his whole life.
Wyll
âThere is no possible version of a story where you are not worthy. To or for me. You have seen me at my lowest. My most humbled. A time when it would have been easy to turn your back on me, yet you stayed. If that does not make you worthy, then there is no one worthy.â
In truth, Wyllâs dejected that you feel this way. To fail someone else so important to him. To lose your trust and respect. He has always tried to be the most upstanding version of himself & to do right, but if he can make even the person he loves feel unworthy, he is not fit to call himself the Blade; or a man.
Gale
âHow could you think such a thing? If anyone is âunworthyâ in our relationship, itâs me. I ask so much of you, yet give so little by compare. Your courage. Your compassion. Your love for me has made you more worthy than anyone else I have ever known. I aspire to be half the man you damine me to be.â
In truth, Gale feels heart broken that you feel this way. How was it that he was failing another lover again? Clearly by his own selfishness once more. He resolves to make you feel as worthy as possible for the remainder of your time together; however long or short that may be. This wrong must obviously be rectified.
Halsin
âDon't sell yourself short. I have tried all my life to be worthy. Worthy of the title of Arch Druid. Worthy of Oak Father's blessing enough to end the Shadow Curse. But I always found myself wanting. When I am with you though, I find myself finally worthy of some of the praise in my life. You bring more worth to my life than words can imagine. It is no small thing."
In truth, Halsin knows what it is like to feel this way, as mentioned above, and he cannot stand the thought that he made you, even for a moment, feel this way. He has always gone with the way nature intended, but perhaps he could try to be a little more nurturing to his relationship with you. He wonât have you feel this way ever again.
