Panama’s golden frogs beat extinction
The amphibians are returning to the wild 17 years after a deadly fungus nearly wiped them out.
It’s been 17 years since the bright yellow Panamanian golden frog (Atelopus zeteki) hopped through its native habitat. But after nearly two decades of hard work, conservationists are finally reintroducing a new generation of the tiny fluorescent amphibians back into the tropical island’s ecosystem. It wasn’t that long ago that golden frogs were staring down almost certain extinction. The saga began in the late 1980s, when an invasive fungus called Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) arrived in lower Central America. Soon, Bd spores spread throughout Panama. The fungal spores had no difficulty traveling through water—and because golden frogs only live close to streams, they soon encountered the fungus themselves...

Awakened Again
Two days without sleep is apparently too much now
The imprint of the door hinge screams at a low cranial whisper
Mind defending reality
“Things have changed
there will be grace
Resting isn’t an unforgivable sin.”
THEY RETURNED
notifications blaring
doors slamming
“Is it me?”
it was….
The leaf blower began
The impression of that old migraine
Sinks deeper into each sulci
seducing nausea
The leaf blower holds a constant violent note
Battled to find protection…
it was nowhere in sight.
…so iSpoke
The small gash echoes their message
“Do you need to go to the ER? Hospital? No? then!…”
right as hot tears well
They retort “Yeah it’s like that!”
Coming home from Barbados to sewing patterns on the table and dog hair on the wooden floor was too much for them….
Graciously, full ears drown out the words whispered between mAI name
Until the cold silence returns again
Coming out of the cave revealed
Clothes packed in trash bags
Belongings boxed up
In the place of mercy
Rules were found
No wonder the lessons learned were
to lie
to hide
to crave the blessing of being dust again
“A new thing”:
quietly
with patient kindness in hand
iAsk God
what’s needed next
to clear this level and fly to freedom
even if every rich thing must be left
That’s the best love they know how to give.
It’s a challenge
When you’d rather be comfortable
have it all your way
control.
It’s suffocating and
if there’s anything to be said imo…
Die.
To everything that keeps you there
To everyone you’ve stayed for
To everyplace that anchors you somewhere you don’t belong
You don’t even know how many will be freed
Through your act it dying
A leaf blower indoors is wild work
Almost like sweeping would have been a taxing task 🤔
To be so frustrated by a “dirty house” you’d think they would have cleaned it before they left!
Was glad to watch them cut her off and she just walk away! No {over}explanation, no fighting for love, just walking away and choosing to take care of herself. Like, why let them see you cry when you know they don’t care like that? Good on her.
Btw
Went out and put the garage workspace together once *whatstheirface* got tuckered out
Was worried they’d try to justify throwing all your materials away
PS: the vessel has a few more dings and that splinter…finally got removed
Really hoping to watch this turn around for

I love nature. Look at this animal. It’s made of bowling alley carpet. Beautiful!
i feel so defensive and protective of people with ARFID like if i had a disorder that made my brain register 90% of food as poison for no reason and i had a bazillion people on the internet constantly calling me a manchild who needs to just grow up and stop being a picky eater i would start killing people
people with ARFID and people with very few autism safe foods and people with contamination OCD and people in ED recovery and everyone else with a complicated relationship with food that no one takes seriously GET BEHIND ME!!!!!!!

Today's wasp of the day is Embolemus nearcticus!
Credits
This is another very ant-like wasp. And that may very well be on purpose, as the (wingless) females are most often found within ant nests and the burrows of small mammals. This family in general is poorly understood and rarely encountered. What I personally find most interesting is their face shape— it reminds me more of a grasshopper than anything I've seen among wasps!
Can't a girl burrow in peace

Is this how you roll?
one of those things you only learn if you’re still and quiet enough at low tide is that thousands of fiddler crabs moving in mud make a pitter-patter noise like soft raindrops
