Digital in Healthcare vid still getting loads of views ;) #pharmaĀ
Health care is digital!
How to find work that makes your heart sing.
Iām in the Times this week in the Style section. Exciting.
āWeāre tech-savvy doctors,ā he said, āfor tech-savvy patients.ā
That about sums up my goals for my professional life. Itās what the future of healthcare will look like in ten or so years, when our generation is deciding how best to deliver healthcare. Itās nice to be doing something fascinating, pushing things forward, making people happy, solving real problems, and making a living. Iām a very lucky man.

When I was a kid, I thought a lot about what made me different from the other kids. I donāt think I was smarter than them and I certainly wasnāt more talented. And I definitely canāt claim I was a harder worker ā Iāve never worked particularly hard, Iāve always just tried doing things I find fun. Instead, what I concluded was that I was more curious ā but not because I had been born that way. If you watch little kids, they are intensely curious, always exploring and trying to figure out how things work. The problem is that school drives all that curiosity out. Instead of letting you explore things for yourself, it tells you that you have to read these particular books and answer these particular questions. And if you try to do something else instead, youāll get in trouble. Very few peopleās curiosity can survive that. But, due to some accident, mine did. I kept being curious and just followed my curiosity. First I got interested in computers, which led me to get interested in the Internet, which led me to get interested in building online news sites, which led me to get interested in standards (like RSS), which led me to get interested in copyright reform (since Creative Commons wanted to use similar standards). And on and on. Curiosity builds on itself ā each new thing you learn about has all sorts of different parts and connections, which you then want to learn more about. Pretty soon youāre interested in more and more and more, until almost everything seems interesting. And when thatās the case, learning becomes really easy ā you want to learn about almost everything, since it all seems really interesting. Iām convinced that the people we call smart are just people who somehow got a head start on this process. I fell like the only thing Iāve really done is followed my curiosity wherever it led, even if that meant crazy things like leaving school or not taking a ārealā job. This isnāt easy ā my parents are still upset with me that I dropped out of school ā but itās always worked for me.

Denzel Washington covers GQ Magazine and has a message for black readers.
If you had one thing to say to African-American readers ofĀ GQ,Ā what would you say? Take responsibility. One of the things that saddens me the most about my people is fathers that donāt take care of their sons and daughters. And you canāt blame that on The Man or getting frisked. Take responsibility. Look in the mirror and say, āWhat can I do better?ā There is opportunity; you can make it. Whatever it is that you choose, be the best at it. You have an African-American president. You can do it. But take responsibility. Put your slippers way under your bed so when you get up in the morning, you have to get on your knees to find them. And while youāre down there, start your day with prayer. Ask for wisdom. Ask for understanding. Iām not telling you what religion to be, but work on your spirit. You know, mind, body, and spirit. Imagineāwork the brain muscle. Keep the body in tuneāitās your temple. All things in moderation. Continue to search. Thatās the best part of life for meācontinue to try to be the best man. My class only has a few spots left. Yāall should jump on this:
Iām teaching a class at the Skillshare HQ on May 29th calledĀ The Business of Health. You all should come. Itās going to be interesting, to say the least! And, itās through one of my favorite startups ever, Skillshare.
Iām very excited to announce that weāve officially launched Sherpaa.
Who itās for: Currently itās for tumblrās employees. In the near future, weāll be signing up other NYC-based companies.
Why: When youāre sick or hurt, figuring out exactly who and what you need and when you need it is difficult. You need an accessible, friendly doctor you can call and email 24/7 who will either solve the problem right then and there or guide you to the highest quality, health professionals with the best personalities who will provide exactly the care you need.
Our wonderful friends at tumblr are our first clients. And that means that all of tumblrās employees can now email or call our doctors (or Guides as we call them) 24/7 when they have a health concern or question.Ā Our Guides are well connected, in-the-know local doctors. Sometimes they can solve everything for you right away, and other times theyāll collaborate with other New York City specialists to arrange the most appropriate care for you. They make your health simple.Ā And thatās our mission.Ā
Weāre starting slow. Weāre focusing on working exclusively with tumblr for a while and will soon be signing up other NYC-based companies. If youāre interested in joining Sherpaa, please do let us know.
Iāve been quite busy for the past few months getting Sherpaa started. This is the next big phase of my life. And Iām super proud of it. Itās a service designed and built by us at The Future Well. Weāre doing wonderful things and Iām a happy, happy guy.
I do this for my friends all the time! @jayparkinson #Genius

Good morning, āLife is one big road with lots of signs. So when your riding through the ruts, donāt complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Donāt burry your thoughts, put your vision to reality.ā - Bob Marley

The Straw That Can Save Lives
Danish water purification company Vestergaard Frandsenās latest development could very possibly save millions of lives of those who struggle to find and produce clean water.
Their invention is the LifeStraw, a low-tech, low-hassle personal water filter that enables the user to simply stick one end into a water source of questionable cleanliness, such as a river, and suck. Several layers within the straw manage to filter out 99% of bacteria and viruses. Previously, people of areas with little clean water would be forced to boil water to ensure its safety, using up other resources in the process. With this invention, little maintenance would be required, and it could last for a year or two.
In addition to the personal filter, the company has developed a LifeStraw Family, which uses gravity rather than suction to filter water. By hanging this up in their homes and filling it with water, families would be able to open the bottom for clean, safe water.
These products do, however, have their limitations. While 99% of pathogens are removed, the filter is unable to prevent Giardia Lamblia from entering the filtered water, as this particular parasite is too small for the filters. The company is diligently working on a solution to this problem. Another potential problem is availability, since Vestergaard Frandsen is a small, struggling company that cannot quite afford to give out too many handouts.
Hopefully these problems can be overcome, as this product, in its current state, and especially once perfected, has the potential for aiding many who need it most.
