Had Rick not been taken by the CRM, how do you think Michonne would have told him she was pregnant? Theyre so attuned with eachother, i could see him sensing she was pregnant even before she realizes it.
I can also see him being super overprotective and hovering, possibly asking Michonne to slow down throughout the entire pregnancy much to Michonne's annoyance lol and others around them. Do you envison him in a similar way during Michonne's pregnancy and how do you think Michonne would handle Rick having zero chill?

This made me smile, especially thinking about how Rick would be during Michonne’s pregnancy. 😊With Rick being taken before he got to learn Michonne was pregnant, for years I had envisioned all these different scenarios for how Michonne would tell Rick about RJ once they reunited, but I hadn’t thought as much about how she would’ve told him she’s pregnant had they never been separated, so this was nice to think about right now. I wrote out my thoughts below 💗:
I feel like the moment they learn she’s pregnant would be so heartfelt & emotional for them. I think you’re right about how Rick might’ve sensed Michonne was pregnant early, since they’re so attuned to each other. Especially with them actively trying, I think he’d be very observant of indicators that she’s pregnant.
As I thought about it, the scenario that came to mind for me is one from an early season of This Is Us, where (spoiler warning just to be safe lol) Beth thinks she might be pregnant and so she and Randall go get the pregnancy test together and wait in their hotel bathroom to see if it’s positive. I could envision something similar with Rick and Michonne.
Like, rather than Michonne first finding out on her own, she maybe realizes it's time to take the test, so she and Rick go get the pregnancy test together and sit somewhere alone while they wait for the results and discuss how they’re feeling and what their hopes are for their baby and family. And then they learn it’s positive together.
There’d be something sweet about that route to me because when Lori was pregnant with Judith, she was way more secretive about discovering she was pregnant, and so it’d be nice knowing this time Michonne wanted Rick a part of the process every step of the way and they get confirmation of the pregnancy at the same time.
And once Michonne is pregnant, I definitely think Rick would be ultra protective. Rick has this nesting energy to me, and I think that would be heightened during her pregnancy as he prepares for the baby and tries to ensure Michonne has as smooth an experience as possible. Everything Richonne goes through strengthens their connection, and so I just know pregnancy would have them feeling connected on a whole other level and would make Rick, who was already so determined to protect and provide for her, do so even more.
I do think he’d be very adamant about her taking it easy and wouldn’t want her anywhere near danger, but I also think he’d try his best to not be overbearing with her. The overprotectiveness would still come through, though, because deep down, he would indeed have zero chill, but I think he’s so considerate of Michonne that he would be willing to at least stop sometimes and acknowledge that he can’t just wrap her up in bubble wrap and shield her from the world for 9 months.
One of the things that is so special about Rick and Michonne’s dynamic is that they really do try to respect each other's judgment and not snuff out the inner fighter within either of them. So I think he’d still try to respect that during the pregnancy, even tho it’d be hard for him to reel in his heightened protectiveness of her sometimes. Because another thing that’s true is that Rick does not play about Michonne’s safety. I notice that the only time he doesn’t let himself be easily swayed by Michonne is when it’s regarding her safety.
So, like if that Joycelyn situation had happened and Rick was there, I think he’d be adamant that Michonne stay home and let him and Daryl handle it. Also, truly, if Rick had been around back then and pregnant Michonne was still somehow branded and attacked like that, and Judith was kidnapped, I truly believe we would have seen a Savage Rick that makes season 5 Rick look tame by comparison.
I think there’d be times where maybe Rick’s overprotectiveness would get a bit irksome to Michonne, and I think she wouldn’t beat around the bush in lovingly but directly letting him know he has to take it down a few notches sometimes. But I also think Michonne would understand why he is that way with her, and so overall I think she’d appreciate him being so attentive and caring. And she'd try her best to hear Rick out and take it easy like he encourages her to do, but it would be a challenge for her since she's someone whose always willing and ready to take action and get things done. So sometimes I think she'd need Rick to actually help her realize that slowing down is the best thing she can do.
I feel like Michonne would know that some of Rick's anxiousness surrounding the pregnancy is because he doesn’t want anything bad to happen to her during this pregnancy and labor, considering Lori died giving birth, and he doesn’t want Michonne to feel like she’s going through any of this alone. So while I totally picture there’d be some humorous moments of Rick doing the most to make sure she’s safe and Michonne getting peeved, I think overall she’d find her husband’s care and concern endearing.

Hello! 💗 Thanks so much for this kind message. I appreciate it a lot! I like this question because I’ve always felt that Michonne fell in love with Rick at the end of season 4. But in terms of when her feelings first began to shift from respect and care to love, even before falling in love is an interesting one to think about.
I feel like Michonne clearly had become really fond of Rick and Carl by the season 4 premiere and was drawn to Rick inside and out by then. But I’d say by that early season 4 time, Michonne felt love for Carl and still tried to convince herself that what she felt for Rick was just care and respect.
But when Michonne finds Rick and Carl in that house in “After,” I’d say that’s when she felt a sense of not just care and respect but love for Rick. I feel like that’s such an important moment in Richonne’s development. Because I think it’s when Michonne’s safety starts becoming tied to Rick, and I think it’s when both Rick and Michonne start embracing each other as family and feel a deeper-rooted love for each other. And then that love turns into fully falling in love by the end of season 4, imo. 😊
