~50 years ago he killed his boyfriend, and he's been haunted by that ever since. It's the reason he can't form any close attachments, and the catalyst that set off the worst of his PTSD and OCD

His family has been the target of demons his whole life and he was always taught by his grandmother to be overly cautious, to never trust anyone, etc etc. But he didn't want to be like that and, being a dripping wet romantic at heart, wanted to love and be loved so badly. He fell in love with a guy and they became That Couple. Lovey dovey kissy touchy ready to spend the rest of their lives together after less than a year.

They were on a date when it happened - a picnic in the forest outside of their home town. His boyfriend, Tamryndel, started acting weird, saying odd things and kinda just being a creep.

He'd been possessed by... something. Lysander never learned by what, or when, only that suddenly they were alone and Tamryndel was attacking him. He sliced Lysander's face open, leaving a scar across his cheek and mouth. He attacked without thought or regard like some kind of mindless zombie until finally Lysander fought back, desperately, and ended Tamryndel's life.

That's when the spirit, or demon, or whatever was possessing him fled his body and Tamryndel, with the very last of his strength, reached out for Lysander, begged for help, and then died.

Some people in town believe that Lysander killed Tamryndel in cold blood and got away with murder. Lysander has never corrected them, because he doesn't believe in himself enough to disagree.
