sorry lol this is a bit of ramble but ik you guys like to hear our thoughts and musings abt the stories and every time I reread a chapter or hear a song that reminds me of the story i have an AHA! moment abt a different detail and I needed to yap abt it (and spread the gospel of good music idk)

i could go on and on about the parallels you could draw between rumi and the dogs tbh… and i think it’s worth noting that rumi is the one who insisted on the dogs, who trains them so seriously (esp when mira is perfectly fine with having lazy lap dogs).

many readers see rumi’s behavior and motivations in HTFOTJ as her punishing herself for what happened in the prequel, and it is that, but it’s also her being incredibly protective of mira and the twins—and as we’ll see in the coming chapters for IKTE… for her that includes protecting them from herself.

it’s punishment as much as it is (in rumi’s mind) selfless protection. but, very importantly, it is never atonement. rumi isn’t looking for forgiveness or absolution, she’s making sure it never happens again.

so she buys and trains guard dogs, she sits in on every security briefing, personally vets every single member of mira's staff, and holds herself at a distance

but mira just wants cuddles, and rumi would never hurt mira again
