“Parents aren’t obligated to take care of their children”

Which one of your parents taught y’all this???

To varying degrees, most people have some form of parental instinct, ranging from some people seemingly having none, to some having it much stronger than their instincts regarding their own self-preservation. Those on the stronger side of the spectrum are much more likely to feel that parents are under obligation to take care of their offspring. 

However, if we’re thinking of the concept objectively, there is no actual obligation charged by the universe for this. Back in the good ol’ days when natural selection ruled, The only punishment for a lack of these parental instincts was a greater chance of one’s offspring to perish and their genetic line to be discontinued. Even this concept though, can only really be viewed as a punishment subjectively. 

There are many species out there that have absolutely nothing to do with the upbringing of their offspring, because they are born with all the instincts and capability they need to sustain themselves. Even a lot of other mammals are born with far lesser need for parental care than humans, and this is because humans literally evolved so oddly that all of our babies are technically born premature. 

So from a human evolutionary standpoint, those with strong parental instincts truly do have an obligation to take care of their children if they wish for the human race to continue, preferably with their genetic line in it. Our biology seems to be a bit behind regarding reproduction, so we must compensate for this once the child is born.

Anyways, if you bring another human being into this world - you need to take care of them, love them and give them a good life because as a parent, you are obligated to do that.
