Hello, we are the Operating System! Our hobbies include coding, writing, art, music, singing, reading and a whole lot more!
We're a plural system and label ourselves median. We're all individuals to varying degrees and have a collective identity we all at least somewhat identify with. We use both we/us and I/me to refer to the more singlet-end of things.
(I/me usually indicates a very solid part of collective identity, "thinking as one", whereas we/us is usually indicative of a decision made by consensus)
We're fine with being addressed collectively (singular he/him or plural they/them, you can call me/us "Curse" or "The Operating System").
Since this blog has been gaining some traction due to a few posts, I'd also like to add that we're a relatively newly discovered system and are by no means an authority on anything. We're just here to hang out.
This intro post changes frequently because, unsurprisingly, we don't have a very consistent way of presenting ourselves :)
Who I am/who we are:
🎨 Tams (she/her) - Chronic yapper, social funnyman, very proud. Likes art, clothes and expressing herself.
🖥️ Green (he/him) - Programming guy, gamedev nerd. Loves his numbers, post-rock and locking the fuck in on a task. And the color green.
🔆 Orange (he/him? we don't think he cares) - That's him on the banner image. Compassion incarnate. Likes discussing, supporting and debating.
🍇 Indigo (he/him) - Horny jail. Most interconnected member of the system, because apparently that trait is what unites us all.
☕ Autumn (she/her) - She who manages the pain. Very to-the-point and can come off as a bit cold or rude. Could always use coffee and some ibuprofen.
🌿 Mist (she/her) - Quiet headmate who nonetheless likes to post. Typically uses minimal or simple words.
🧯 Syph (he/him) - Load-bearing people pleaser. The responsible one.
🎸 Seth (he/him) - The devil on our shoulder who keeps telling us that "trying to cut your own hair is a good idea, actually" - Update: we cut our hair and it's great. Syph would disagree but I am like the secondary character telling the bookworm protagnosit to go to parties and live a little
🗡️ Alex (he/him) & subsystem - Introject and not happy about it. slowly embracing the cringe. Every time I cringe at myself I become more powerful. You cannot contain me anymore.
+ others, who either don't front very frequently or don't care to be included here.

But before people read it ☝️ i want to let it be known that, although it does have all the points i made when we had this conversation the first time, this version was written mainly to fill up a lot of space. as a result it’s not necessarily written the best.
it does feel a bit like a pattern at this point… i wonder if it’s a system thing, that headmates in systems are more likely to have wings for some reason, or if it’s just more obvious because system comics generally tend to draw more simplified designs themselves? wings on the head are much easier to draw than actual wings. when goose and i talked about his sona’s design, we decided that, for him at least, it’s definitely the connection to geese, and the symbolism of freedom and being able to fly. but i doubt that it’s the same for other people. the symbolism of freedom and being able to fly, maybe, but not the specific bird parts. birds and wings can symbolize several different things, from freedom, to hope, to rebirth… and when you start getting specific types of birds, it gets even more in-depth and opens up several different types of symbolism that the brain could potentially latch onto. that’s for wings though, not ear-wings specifically, and those could be very different. the difference between having wings, having ear-wings, and having both, regardless of whether they draw them or not, is very important in these things. maybe it’s some kind of religious connection? ear-wings are connected to angels, and angels can symbolize all sorts of things: perfection, authority, saviors… both good and bad. they could be fallen angels too, and represent the complete opposite; freedom, loneliness, separation. religious trauma is fairly common after all. it’s either that something in people’s brains decided to give these alters wings, or these alters specifically decided to give themselves wings when designing their sonas. either of these options can say a lot about a person. the brain does run off of symbolism quite a bit.
and then goose doubled up on some parts of it to give it more fluff and make it fill the page more!
in the other reblog chain when you mentioned a lot of people saying that mcyt was one of their inspirations, i thought i was one of them, but apparently i left that out of my initial reblog lol
anyways, we have one guy with ear-wings and if i had to dig into the symbolism of that, it'd be that wings are associated with angels, which are in turn associated with purity and innocence. also his design is meant to look... uncomfortable. we tried to change it around so it doesn't literally look like he's in constant pain, but nothing else ever felt right. and i think the ear-wings are a part of that. imagine trying to position those when you sleep!
Me, outside on a walk: "Damn, all this plurality business is making my head hurt. Thank god that I'm the real me and I can stop being plural any time :)"

“Why do you still need a stuffed animal to sleep” sometimes in the middle of the night I wake up and I’ve turned 9 years old and I am confused and in need of comfort from someone or something that won’t ridicule me when I ask for help thank yewww
we're all adults in-sys and we have not one, but two blahajs we sleep with. they're so soft and holdable...... even our most serious manly men would agree.
Yeah, I guess to elaborate on something from the last post, we share memories and also tend to forget who was fronting at a given time. So someone saying "yeah, I did this" when, in fact, it was someone else, is very common.
But the point is that if the action doesn't clash too much with the current fronter's identity, they are willing to adopt it as their own. This is kind of how our "core" or "singlet identity"/"collectivesona" forms. Anyone can enact "I".
Based off the last answer you gave, do you prefer drawing digitally or physically?
Hahah, we like this question because the answer we're about to give is going to be very telling.
Our favorite things are always what we are doing right when the question is asked, because we have very bad emotional amnesia. Recency bias is through the roof. We tend to remember things we like in general, but not enough to rank them or to pick a favorite. It might be worth investigating if it is more consistent for specific headmates, but since we share memory, we experience it more as "hmm, well i have always liked X, except for last week when I abruptly hated it for some reason. weird." (rip to everyone in-sys who likes to eat fish, we keep telling people we hate fish)
Tams seems the most geared towards traditional art and prefers fineliners. The stuff she does tends to be stylized and rich in detail, shading and texture.
Mist also likes traditional art, but she leans towards realism and seems to prefer pencils and ballpoint pens.
There's someone in here who really likes sketch markers, but we haven't used those in a while, so I have no clue who.
I don't even know who's been doing the bulk of the digital art. But that's our current answer, that's our favorite.

I just found your blog and I just wanting to say the colours and aesthetic are really eye catching! Super well done!
wowowow thank you so much!
We had the "sketchbook problem" with digital art for a while, where it was really difficult to just draw something low-effort on our tablet, since you have infinite chances to try to get it right (unlike with a sketchbook, where, if you mess up your lineart you either roll with it or move on).
The style we currently use for our comics aims to be both pleasing to look at while being decently easy to draw. That's why we don't force the outlines to connect and kind of just imply more complex features (eg. hands, feet). And also the reason for the usually singular color for each comic. We can crank one of these out within an afternoon in three phases (sketch, outline, color).
When we do traditional art, it's usually during our classes or in places where we don't have access to our regular art supplies. And we have these pastel highlighters we really love that come in six colors (pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple). We're very very used to drawing with that limited color palette, and even now that we could feasibly pick any color to draw with digitally, we gravitate towards those, heheh.
damn I'm meeting up with a bunch of my secondary school friends soon and when they ask me how I've been doing I'm gonna have to come up with something other than "well i recently found out it's easier and lot less chaotic to treat myself as a syndicate rather than an individual"
