Luna Lovegood

No person in their right mind would refuse extra bacon.  That would be – inconceivable, and a sure sign of possession or some dark curse or the like.  At least, Sully’s always thought so and is pleased to see that Luna’s following along in his bacon-loving footsteps.  There’d been a moment when he’d feared, deep in his heart, that she’d give it a go at being vegan or something like that – it seemed to be a growing trend in the Muggle world, one that concerned him deeply on principle, because just try and come for Sully’s favorite leather jacket or his favorite leather armchairs, and that’s before even touching his bacon and his “it’s-been-a-long-day” go-to lunch of a large, delightful cheeseburger – but his lovely little Luna had not put him through such torment.  Not yet, thank god.  Hopeful;y never.

“Ah, the young Master Potter gets in today, does he?”  Sully’s glad to hear it; he knows the boy has to go home to his Muggle relations over the holidays, some sort of something or other that had been cooked up by others back during those fraught, confusing days at the end of the War, but that didn’t mean Sully had to like it.  By all accounts the Dursleys were truly appalling people, and he was always pleased to have him back where an eye could be kept on him and proper meals set in front of him as often as he could stand it.

“I think that would be a grand idea.  Perhaps you could ask Molly if she’d fancy a spot of company for tea later, and to let me know if said company could bring anything over with them.”  Sully, when he can be bothered to stir himself to it, was a fairly good baker, the meticulousness of some of the more fussy recipes, even with magic to aid them, soothing for his Ravenclaw soul.  “Though I must say I wasn’t expecting him to get in for another week or two at the earliest.  Did our Hermione happen to give a reason for his coming in so soon?”

Luna could understand her stepfather’s concern. She did seem to inherit, from her father, a love of creatures. But as the ones that occupied Luna’s thoughts were mostly imaginary, there was no real reason for it to carry over into her love of things like bacon. So no. There would be no giving up meat in the Lovegood-Sullivan house. At least not on her account.

“I will. Though I thought with me out of the house for the afternoon you and Daddy might take the opportunity to go see Ceara.” Because there was no way in which her friends’ mum was okay. Not after what happened at the Ministry. The fact that it had been three months made no difference. And, you know, Alphie had mentioned in his owls that his mum was still a bit out of sorts. So...

[text: Little Luna]: Sweetie, it might also be illegal.  I know it is by Muggle law, and you way want to confirm that before going forward.

She will accept both the confirmation of her correct analysis and the extra bacon. For who would ever refuse bacon? No good and/or decent person, that’s for sure.

“Mmmm-hmmm...” She nodded, eyes never leaving the page. This wasn’t the first time Sully has read Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There to her, and it wouldn’t be the last. From the moment she was able to understand what Wonderland was, she fell in love with it. To the point where she had spent most of the summer searching for Rabbit Holes that would lead her to the wondrous land. 

She had yet to find one.

Sully sits down next to her, mug of tea in hand, watching in admiration as the silver hare goes darting about the yard, leaping about with a joy that’s almost palpable.  “He’s brilliant,” he beams, bending to place a kiss on the top of her head, pride washing through him.  “I think Lennox is a lovely name for him.”

He watches a moment longer, sipping his tea thoughtfully.  “Luna, sweetheart, this is a truly impressive bit of magic.  It sounds like our Harry knows his stuff – and so do you.”

Praise from her step-father is hardly a rare thing. Sully had been around for as long as she could remember and never a day went by that she doubted his love for her. No, Luna Lovegood-Sullivan knew just how loved she was. But that didn’t mean the praise wasn’t appreciated. Or exciting.

She was proud of her Patronus and was pleased that Sully was too. Content to let the hare play and explore and his leisure, she leaned against him -- inhaling the familiar scent of his tea and aftershave.
