The Phantoms Cat

I crave:  Our place restored to the old glory Everyone else gone beside you and me Your hand on my scraggly fur Your voice weaving another dream Walking the night with you

You ask me in my purring dreams if I hear the screams but all I hear nowadays are useless prays Oh love of mine I miss they shine everything’s just pain.

Erik, I miss you.

through empty halls and dark shadows down and down and down I move slink around the corners cry to the highest heavens up and up and up my lonely meow soars reaching my beloveds ears drying up his tears

The hallways used to be our kingdom. From rooftop to the deepest cellar. It used to be silent down there. Nowadays the parlour shakes and trembles when a metro rushes by. I tuck my nose under my tail and curl up in the Persian cat basket and dream of his hands on my fur and his voice in my ears.

There used to be fish in the lake. Erik caught them for me to eat. I’ve not eaten one rat in my life with him, but I did scare them off.  I was his princess and he my king. 

I remember the night my fur was wet with tears. He never cried until he met this human with the sweet voice. The other, which smelled of tobacco and tea, never made him cry. Humans are weird.

Cats like me have lived all their lives. Seven, nine, it does not matter. Because I only had one with you, Erik. 

I shed too much. If Erik would be here he’d take that soft brush and would brush me. 

no one left to care if I pee into the register or shed into the master’s cat basket

I don’t feel well. No pet-pets and hugs since Erik left.

this is not getting better, they expect me to like them. but I just like you. I am your cat
