ACTION - a truly great weekend
A few weeks ago we all headed 150miles down south to VW Action. Now a mere 150 miles may seem like nothing to many people but factor in 7 lowered cars of which 3 of them have done a grand total of less than 100 miles since rebuilds/lowering/painting/being messed about with by us fools, and the combined load capacity of a small family saloon = one thing - ROADTRIP!
We set off early on Friday morning and after a few hiccups along the way we were there! (within a mere 4 ish hours) The sun was out, so we parked up our cars in the club camping and set up camp. 5 tents and a rather large gazebo later we set about what would later be the standard for the next 2 days, Barbecue, Drag racing, beer (or as the Situation would put it - BDB)
Basically the whole weekend was pretty awesome, laid back atmosphere, drag racing, cool cars in the show and shine and the camping areas, good food and plenty of entertainment. We will be going again next year.
We will let the pictures do the rest of the talking - Part 2 will follow
Oh and PS: we did make it back home safe-ish!
Lower Class Rides - The water division
We thought it was about time we introduced you to Chris' mk2 golf, its one of the two current water cooled rides among our little club and has recently received some winter TLC (and a good part of summer!)in the engine bay department.
Chris has owned his 1985 mk2 golf (type 19) for 3 years now and in that time it has had a fair few looks, but we are loving it's current setup with a hint of us inspiration!
In Chris' words its currently rocking; 'Westmoreland front, Us splitter, Us taillights, NOS Hella Heckblende, Custom tailpipe, 8x14 work equip 01's with 3 degrees of camber out back and 2 up front, cassette holder, US switches, Rabbit badges, and loads of things i probably cant think of ha ha!'
you can find out more about this cool little motor on his billion page build thread if you follow this link : http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=238706&st=0

Cut... chop... weld - a project update
The latest news from the Lower Class camp is that Birch's 58 has left the unit. In the roll up to vw festival it was all hands on deck to get the car done. All the rewiring was taken care of by Niall and Roger, while Birch and the others worked through the long list of other items on the car.
Job done... the car was all bolted together and after a few glitches made it to the mot a few days before the event, the car was legal, but by no means complete - rocking a severe rear rake issue.
So what to do - cue a last minute Saturday night build off. Roger started off proceedings at 8pm with the stripping of the front end, ready for the old beam to come out, followed up by Joe and Bug (his long suffering girlfriend) at 10pm who helped get the beam off and stripped down. Birch arrived at 11pm and it was all on to get the beam narrowed for the next day. Other members of tlc also bobbed by and lent a hand until Mr Birch was the last man standing at 5am.
The result, well see the pictures we think it looks awesome!

So two weekends ago and it was the first of the deadlines for getting to the first Lower Class clubstand at Vw Festival on the 19th August. Roger was due for some lowering on his freshly aquired fastback now that a few minor electrical issues were sorted, unfortunately Slamwerks were still 'waiting for the tubing' for his type 1 conversion beam so we set about doing it oldschool. The day went pretty well with Roger and Niall doing the brunt of the work and Joe on hand to help out while his fiddled with his beetle.
After a few hours graft and some running back and fourth to the tool shop, the results speak for themselves - 3 in the front and 2 in the back
We love this car, and hope you do too!
Pj wanted to feel the breeze in his face (and the rain in his lap) so he's just added a set of safari's. Colour matched and fitted by Voo Doo vw. Rumour has it he may be picking up a set of bus steels to rock the 'no alloys' (poverty spec) look that seems to be popular with the rest of TLC (due to us being too poor for shiny wheels)
Here is a build thread for our youngest members ride, and the only one of us with air ride. Let me introduce Lola birch and her awesome tot rod. Built from a metal pedal car, this beast has been de seamed, had the arches tubbed and had massive chassis modifications to enable front and rear airide to be put in place.
Lola can be seen cruising the shows, running after dogs, trying to get daddy to give her Monster energy drink and generally entertaining us all at the more local shows to us (yorkshire)
Come and say hello and chat sh*t about vw's at vw festival on Sunday 19th August.

Fuelled Society had its first show on sunday and we were all very impressed. An early morning convoy was set upon for the first lower class club stand. On display from left to right was nialls 63, seans 55 (cheers for the pics), joes 72, rogers 71 fasty, baz's trekker and ry's 71. A really good day was had by all and Mike bought along his daughter Lola and her tot rod which kept us entertained all day.
Can't wait for our next club stand for Vw Festival at Harewood house in August.
Project Update - Birch's 58 is coming along and now has an engine, seemed to take an age to line up the spline, but there is now a 1300 tp sat in place along with a brand new exhaust. The rear brakes are assembled and notched spring plates back on. Next up wiring and running.
Oh and what do you all think of his new wheels?
Well this weekend we had some SUN - yes you did hear me right, so in anticipation of the first Fuelled Society show on Sunday, we all go together for a bit of fettling, fitting of steering boxes, and some work on Mikes 58. Joe, Niall, Roger and Sean then headed out to the hotrod meet on saturday night and a general cruise around town.
Joe's been playing again. I think he was having withdrawal symptoms from painting something and had the excuse of a crusty door bottom, so last week he whipped out the welder and fixed the bottom seal retaining strip.
It is with great pleasure that we would like to welcome our newest member to the fold. Roger (who has been a good friend for years) has finally said goodbye to his mk4 and on wednesday night we drove to Linconshire to pick up this beasty.
A 1971 type3 fastback 1600 TE, looks lovely and solid and has been really well looked after. I can confirm that a slamwerks beam and drop spindles are on their way.

All Done!
Joes beetle is road legal and running better with every mile under its belt.
After a hell of a lot of hard work doing the body work, once built back up there were a few engine niggles to sort, as it hadnt really been run in 3 or so years, and a bit of work to improve the steering.
Joe ended up chucking away the beam that came on the car as it was no where near straight or even and making a temporary one till he can sort his air beam out. We also spent some time playing with the rear suspension splines as the car sat very unevenly....... We got there in the end and 'big waffle' as shes become known looks sweet, and even better on the move.
Joes still working on progressing it all the time but its on the road and running so thats good enough for us to go put some miles on it round Leeds!
A night of beers, rockin tunes, narrowing beams and dropping backends.
Someone even managed to sleep thru all the grinding.
