However, what happened next was an unplanned four-hour viewing of the Punk Hazard arc of the hit anime series One Piece. By the time he realized the time, it was already 7:15 a.m.

Tired and with very little sleep, he momentarily thought about not attending college. However, concerns about attendance prompted him to take immediate action. With barely a quick brush and a splash of water on his face, he headed off to his classes, pausing only to have a strong cup of coffee along the way.

The first class went by without any incident, despite his obvious tiredness. However, the second class took an unexpected turn. Noticing that most of the students had their laptops open and were looking distracted, the professor expressed his displeasure and announced a surprise examination set at 11:30 a.m.

The announcement sent shockwaves of anxiety throughout the classroom. With no time to prepare, the students scrambled to review. The students quickly scanned summaries to refresh his memory.

As the examination started, the first two questions required remembering specific names—a subject he was weak at because of his lack of sleep. One of the answers was guessed correctly, fortunately. However, confusion set in regarding the fifth question, which was about the first trade between animals and humans in Animal Farm by George Orwell. He chose “eggs” as the answer.

Later, when the answers were being discussed, the professor pointed out “timber” as the correct answer. Some students disagreed with this. Determined to check the facts, the student re-read the relevant chapters, he realized that the first trade that was confirmed was for eggs, and then there were negotiations for timber later on.

He underlined the passage and sent it to the class representative, asking her to pass it on to the professor.

This particular incident is a reflection of the pressures of life as a student and the academic significance of fact-checking. The day ended with a final lecture that consisted of short animated movies before the classes were over at 1 p.m. Since the student could not meet the professor, he went back to his dormitory, slept until the early evening, and then got back to work on his blog entry draft and pending assignments, working late into the night.
