Just found out today that my friend posts fanfiction as well.

She told me, nervously, that she posts her writing. And I was like oh! me too!

And her eyes lit up, I’m saying, LIT. UP.

She was like… what do you write?

I was like… fanfiction.

And she was like girl…

I asked where she posts her writing.

She whispered “Ao3.”

ME TOO.

The duration of our conversation included giggling and talking about our fandoms like maniacs.

The best feeling is when you’re able to invite a friend into your secret world of fandoms and fanfiction.

The guards- Cenred

Darkness cloaked Esseter, the clouds drizzling down a fine mist of rain that would soak you to the bone in minutes. Most of the castle slept as the dawn was still hours away.

The king was risen from his sleep, and urgency that his life depended on.

In the throne room, two guards , both heavy built and lofty, marched in, dragging the 'assailant' between them.

She at her full draw would have come to their shoulder at most, and she was built far less than the pair that flanked her. Her face was bruised and bloodied, her features swollen, and her breathing laboured, the pattern of broken ribs. She could barely stand, and there was blood on her temples and hair. Something stained her tunic.

"Your majesty." One of the guards began. "We found this wench attempting to enter your bedchambers..she was armed."

"liar!" Isolde spat.

"Quiet!" The guard back handed her. "My apologies, sire, she seems to be feral "

"Your majesty...please" Isolde attempted

"Shut up!" The guard hit her again, hard enough now to floor her.

Isolde managed to get to her knees, but no further.

"She had this" the guard explained, setting down a short sword.

An eyebrow rose as he surveyed the scene in front of him; grumpily, his head rested back against his throne. Had he really been awoken for this? Gods above, his men usually knew better.

Waving the guards away with a dismissive bat of his hand, he turned his attention to the bloodied woman in front of him. It was surprising, perhaps, but despite his ferocious nature he found attacking women rather distasteful, and unnecessary. Did they really think he wouldn't have been able to overpower her small frame?

"Speak. Tell me what happened," he ordered, supressing a yawn. "And quickly. It is far too early to be awake."

"Your majesty. " Isolde started, "I was in the corridors as I had a meeting with someone in your employment. It was more to do with supplies. However I found myself in the upper floors, and overheard these two idiots. They had plans to incapacitate you."

One of the guards looked livid, the other scared.

"yes, I drew my sword but only to protect myself, and you..at a push." She explained.

The rain drizzled down the walls outside the castle, a fine, wet mist that felt like nothing yet soaked you through. The early hours of the morning, still cloaked in darkness , we're disturbed by the guards disrupting something.

Both King Uther, Prince Arthur, and Morgana, Uther's ward, we're sent for; for both collective safety and for judgment.

Two of the night's guards, both men of size, stormed into the main hall. Between them they trailled the alleged assailant. She, who if she'd have been able to take herself to her entire height would only have been to their shoulder, and who by no means had the build about her to take the viscous beating they'd given, was barely able to stand. Her features nearly unrecognisable from swelling and blood; the front of her dark top was streaked with something, it could have been water, blood, or anything,yet it only darkened the black material.

Her breathing seemed like an effort, one easily recognised as broken ribs, and there was blood on her head and face.

"Your majesties!" The two guards bowed, "We apologise for the late disturbance." One of them began, "But we found this one in the halls near your bedchambers."

"liar..." Isolde spat.

Her protest was met with a heavy back hand across the face from the guard, "Enough from you." He looked back towards Uther and his children, "my apologies, sir, however, the contents of her bag were concerning. I do fear she was sent to do harm."

"Your majesty, please, none of..." Isolde tried to speak up, but this time the guard hit her hard enough to floor her. She managed to get to her knees, but no further.

someone messaged me this morning after I sent them a message late last night about a plot on their wishlist, saying that we couldn’t play it out because “somebody messaged me about it first”. I mean, would you like me to carry you across the threshold, my lady?"

Isolde had felt nervous during their ceremony, however she had managed not to show it. It had been a long day, and despite the teasing of their guests as they left to the bedchambers, she was relieved to get away.

"He is, very much. And I'm fine, but thank you." Isolde replied in regards to her father, King Goram of Ireland, and his need to uphold tradition. As they stood there in the dim light of the hallway, Isolde studied Jasper's face for a few seconds as he opened the door of the bedchambers, She then smiled warmly, "If you like. And if you're sure you won't drop me." She teased lightly.

Isolde handed her a handkerchief of sorts, really just a fabric scrap, but it was clean. “Aside from Tristan, the men tend to just leave me to it. And we all know they will not want to be involved in the conversations of two women.” She chuckled softly. “But yes, we should.”

The fire in the camp broke the darkness, and the men, including Merlin and Arthur sat round the flames, keeping warm and drinking.

“Perhaps not,” Gwen agreed, accepting the piece of fabric and dabbing at her eyes. “But we’re in the middle of the Darkling Woods in a time of crisis. I would rather not worry them needlessly by tarrying away from camp for too long.”

The sight of all the men still sitting around the campfire was one that eased Gwen’s mind somewhat, though she didn’t think the sight of Arthur was going to stop causing her heartache for some time.

Gwen knew Isolde’s words were true--she’d seen the pain in Arthur’s eyes when he told her what had happened between them in Ealdor was a mistake--and she wished so desperately that she could believe things between her and Arthur would work out, but she couldn’t.

Not when she knew there was no chance, even should Arthur lift her banishment and allow her to return home to Camelot.

She nodded in answer to Isolde’s offer. If she were to break down, it was better that it happen when she wasn’t where everyone could see. A walk might do her some good.
