Kiara inherited her interest and ability in magic; she was born a Druid, and lived her entire childhood hiding in a Druid settlement deep in the forest near the border between Camelot and Essetir. Both her mother and father were capable of using magic, and they helped to teach Kiara and her brother Robyn how to control her abilities. Similarly to many of the other Druids, Kiara found that she had an affinity for healing spells, and so she spent many years trying to learn and master as many of them as she could - with the intention of using her knowledge to help others. As soon as she was made aware of her abilities, she knew she wished to become a physician.
However, as Uther’s law decreed that all magical users were evil, the Druids lived in fear. If they were discovered, all of them would be slaughtered - including the children. Occasionally, a couple of the Druids would have to travel into the city of Camelot to collect supplies that they could not get from the forest, and these journeys were highly perilous. It was during one of this brief visits when Kiara’s father was discovered, and subsequently executed. Overcome with grief and guilt, the young woman became full of hatred of all things related to King Uther and Camelot, yet as Druids were peaceful by nature - she took this anger and turned it into passion, studying magic day and night.
To make matters worse, it was not long after Kiara’s father’s death that a rumour of the Druid settlement reached the King’s ears. Still believing that all magical users were evil, Uther sent out the young Prince Arthur to lead a raid and destroy the small village. This attack was horrendous, and Kiara’s childhood home was filled with the agonized screams as Druid after Druid was cut down and killed. Kiara and her mother only just managed to escape, and both of them sustained considerable injuries, yet managed to travel far enough into the forest that the knights of Camelot did not find them and kill them too. It was during this attack that Kiara last saw her brother, and although she knows it is unlikely that he managed to survive, she can’t help but be optimistic that he is still out there, somewhere.
Shortly after this attack, once the two women had recovered somewhat, Kiara’s mother encouraged her to travel to Camelot. Although it was dangerous, they had heard rumours that Emrys was finally there, and Ariana was certain that not only was he the only one that could help the remaining Druids now, but he would also be able to protect Kiara. So, although she did not wish to leave her mother, Kiara travelled to Camelot and found Emrys. She now lives with Gaius and Emrys (who she must remember to call Merlin) under the disguise of being the new physician’s apprentice.

"Yeah, fair play." he smiled at her, even if it was a little tight, wondering if the discomfort was showing on his skin. With any luck people would just put his snappyness down to his back, but, honestly, who was going to assume werewolf?
But he lifted his head slowly as she left. Hope there's not another power cut. If the power cut out when he was upstairs... would his magnetic lock hold or release? It would probably release, a safety precaution. If the power went out... he would have to find a way to hook a battery up to it. Just in case. To make sure it worked...
She'd check back in on him later, see how effective the first attempt of the remedy had been, but right now she had other patients to see. Hours passed in the typical, hectic whirl of the ER - made worse by the backlog of less urgent patients caused by the power outage - and she only had a short while left on her shift when she next saw him again.
"Hey. How are you doing?" she asked, as she typed near-manically at the computer terminal. "Has it helped at all?" she murmured, quietly.
❝𝓝o need to let me know.❞ He was well aware of the other vampires in the area. Being a tracker, he was able to pinpoint even the tiniest details if someone wanted him to look for it- or even his own curiosity. ❝They're far away enough... for now.❞
"Oh, yeah. Right, of course," she'd forgotten that he was probably able to detect them himself. She paused for a second, fidgeting with the sleeve of her jumper. "Do you...do you know why they're all here? I've never seen so many vampires in one place before," and that gave her a deep sense of foreboding.
"Yeah and ummm just pretend we're dating. Hold hands a few times say we met at work. Honestly I think everyone is going to be too busy partying it up to notice much." Samira admits with a nervous little smile. She just wanted to make a good impression. Maybe lying wouldn't be a good impression. Maybe she should tell them the truth but she's embarrassed that she's made it this far in life without having dated anyone.
"Yeah. Yeah of course I do. I wouldn't have asked otherwise. Just be yourself. They'll love you I know they will." She promises with a big smile. Without thinking she reaches out and gives a big hug. "I'm gonna owe you for this. Thank you so much. Wedding is in a month so hopefully you aren't scheduled yet."
She couldn't help but chuckle quietly at the thought of the subterfuge, and she nodded her agreement with an amused smile. "I can do that. I'll try to be as believable as possible," she assured. "It might actually be quite...fun. I haven't been to a wedding for years. Can you help me choose something to wear?"
Another huff of laughter escaped her and she returned the hug, squeezing her gently. "You're welcome. You'll have to teach me about some of your family though, to make it seem more real. Maybe I should look through some of your photos? I'm sure that's what girlfriends would do," she considered. Not that she had much experience with relationships.

robb had expressed a desire for her to attend to his men who became wounded in battle. he'd heard of her great skills and knew it would be worth it to have someone like her on his side as they marched against the north and king's landing to save his family. but theon knew robb enough to know that even as a king, he wouldn't want others to go without care just because he wanted to whisk the healer away.
"how long will it take you?" asks theon, trying not to sigh or roll his eyes at the whole ordeal. "robb stark calls you to his side. hurry with what work you have here."
She offers him a grateful smile as he grants her at least some time to finish seeing her patients. "I'll be finished by noon," she assures, her gaze flicking up to the sun to make sure. Quickly, she rummages through the basket on her arm for the tincture she has made for the elderly washerwoman's arthritis.
"Shall I meet you back here...or do you wish to accompany me?" she asks, a little warily. The man gave her the impression that her assistance at Robb Stark's side was not voluntary, and she wonders if he would allow her out of his sight.
The doctor smiled, looking up from her chart to meet the other woman's gaze. "I can understand why you think that, but there is a lot of joy in a hospital too. The birth of a newborn, the cure of an unusual disease, a long-term patient finally being discharged," she listed, absentmindedly. "But working in a hospital is certainly not a job for everyone."
FOOT IN MOUTH DISEASE ; he fears it's terminal. ❛ Whoa, whoa, whoa--you gonna keep me overnight, doc? Without dinner first? I'm not that typa man. ❜ Momma Anderson didn't raise a quitter, but she sure raised an idiot. But what else does he have to fall back on? He's looking at missing wiping that infuriating smirk off of Rozanov's smarmy, stupid face for the last time of the season, and the Bobcats are already stretched too damn thin in the D-core as is. He can't leave them hanging!
And he sure as hell isn't going to hand the dumb Bears any more fucking easy wins this damn season.
So he falls back on jokes, a little wide-eyed and dizzy and trying too hard not to throw up as the bright lights of the little office are starting to get to him. Because he doesn't have a concussion. Because he can't have a concussion.
He makes it halfway through his polite Midwestern request for a waste basket before he pitches over the side of the cot and politely empties his stomach of his pre-game snack of skinless chicken breasts and protein spaghetti. His vision goes dark for a second as his own stomach acid makes his mouth water with the urge to throw up again.
His words are so unexpected that she couldn't stop the quiet chuckle from slipping free, despite the potential seriousness of his head injury. "I'm afraid so," she reiterates. "If your symptoms don't improve overnight, we'll schedule an MRI for first thing in the morning, just to be on the safe side."
The smile is quickly replaced by a frown of sympathy, however, as she correctly guesses the end of his sentence and promptly grabs a hospital-issued cardboard sick bowl just in time to stop him from vomiting entirely on the floor of the clinic room.
"Oh dear, it's okay. You're alright," she murmurs, soothingly, as she discards the bowl into the bright yellow biological waste bin at the foot of the bed and grabs a clean one, just in case. "Here, stay sat up for me for a moment. Do you feel like you're going to be sick again? Have a few sips of water," she offers him a plastic cup.
I'm travelling from 24th July - 24th August. My activity will therefore be reduced/unpredictable for this time, and I will be mobile only. Thanks for your patience!
When Ryland Grace hears a knock at his door, he frowns, confused. It can't be Stratt. Or it could be, he guesses. But she's more likely to come in anyway. So the knock catches him off guard. "Uh..." He says , chuckling a bit. "Come in?" His words end up sounding more like a question, even though he really means them. He is definitely curious to see who has arrived.
Once the door opens to reveal an unfamiliar face, Grace stands up and puts out his hand for the stranger to shake. "Dr. Ryland Grace. And you are?" Hopefully the stranger will give an introduction as well. Grace would like that. And he must admit, he is definitely curious to find out everything he can.
At the rather unconvincing come in, she steps into the room with a faint smile. "Hello, Dr Grace. I'm Dr Kiara Oakly," she shakes his extended hand. "Except I'm not...I can't do any of this," she gestures around the laboratory, her expression turning apologetic. She wasn't going to be very helpful in that regard.
"I'm a medical doctor. I wanted to introduce myself as Stratt asked me to run some tests on you over the next few days, during your breaks, just to check nothing in here is causing you any physical harm," she explained. "Did she fly you here by fighter jet, too? That was quite an experience," she smiled, weakly; her stomach had only just recovered. "Sorry, I don't mean to disturb you. I'll leave you to your work."

"Still pretty exhausted," she admitted, with a wry smile. "But much better, really. I think my fever's broken. Thank you so much for having me stay, I'll be out of your hair in a couple of hours. Just as soon as I can summon up the strength to stand up," she chuckled, tiredly, as she wrapped the borrowed blanket more tightly around herself.
Still, her magic buzzed at the back of her mind - not aggressively, but clearly wanting to draw her attention to something. She was too tired to work out exactly what.
He licked his teeth, grimacing at the strange flavour, and then hesitated a moment as he considered her offer. It was a nice offer, but after a moment, he shook his head.
"It would be wasted on me," he said, simply, "Going to be in a shitload of pain in a few hours no matter what happens so I can endure this a bit longer. Save your energy." he smiled gently at her. "Thank you for your help, uh... hopefully it will... make the change easier."
She dropped her hand back to her side, nodding in understanding. "Well, if you change your mind, you'll know where I'll be. If you get too bad-tempered, I might have to insist," she told him, with a faint quip of her lips. "You're welcome. I hope so too. Fingers crossed there's not more power outages today," she commented, as she started to head towards the door and back to where her patients were undoubtedly waiting.

Doom smiled as he tilted Kiara's chin up to look at him. He enjoyed the look of fear in her eyes. "How amusing that you think you have a choice."
He held up some kind of device or computer chip. On one side, tiny mechanical tendrils writhed as if it were alive. Doom pressed the device to side of Kiara's head. Immediately, the tendrils drilled and extended into her brain and invaded her mind.
"I could compel absolute obedience with a device such as this, but that would interfere with your abilities. Fortunately, limited control will be sufficient. You will find it quite impossible to use your powers for healing or protecting yourself. You will also find that you are quite unable to direct them against me.”
The restraints suddenly released Kiara, allowing her to fall to the floor. “Obey me, and you will be allowed some small comforts. Disobey…” At this word, the chip sent a searing pain through Kiara’s entire body, far worse than any from the scan. “And you will suffer.” After several seconds, the pain ceased. Doom's fingers stroked Kiara's hair before he sat back on his throne.
"Nod if you understand."
There was no way she could avoid the mechanical device, and she cried out as the tendrils extended through her skull and towards her brain. So exhausted with the pain that had wrecked through her body, she had not immediately noticed that her powers had returned.
Despite Doom's assurance to the contrary, her brain did try and defend itself. Although the shield she had previously, involuntarily formed to prevent the laser scan did not reappear, she could feel her powers flooding up to the site of invasion, preventing the device from fully implanting in her brain.
She didn't know how much Doom said was still true, for she could certainly feel the foreign device fighting in her mind for dominance...but the mutation coursing through her DNA was not so easily cowed. A gasp escaped her as she was abruptly released from the constraints, and she collapsed against the ground.
Another cry of agony left her as the device shot pain through her body, yet it was quickly dampened by her powers. Still, her whole body trembled and she didn't lift herself up from where she was pressed against the ground. Not until Doom demanded a response from her, and she reluctantly raised her head to nod.
He rran a hand over the back of his neck, exhaling sharply, feeling a twang of guilt, but then she was in front of him and he managed to keep control over himself, just about. Nostrils flared, senses already frazzled.
"Thank you." his voice was lower, as he wrapped his hand around the vial, "I... I really appreciate that." he half smiled, although he was grimacing slightly. The tension of the approaching shift had pulled all the muscles in his back tight, and the pain had worsened for it. Soon as possible? He shot a quick glance around... then popped the top and downed it in one, grimacing as he handed the vial back to her.
She nodded approvingly as he downed the vial, hopeful that her late night working would help him. "You're welcome. You'll have to tell me exactly how it impacts you, and I can make some changes for next time."
It wouldn't work immediately, and she examined him with her lips pursing faintly. He certainly wouldn't be able to do his best, empathetic work like this. "Do you want me to take away some of your pain?" she offered, raising one of her hands towards him. Usually, she'd ration her abilities throughout the day to ensure she could heal her most critical patients...but he needed it almost as much as them.
