Kiara inherited her interest and ability in magic; she was born a Druid, and lived her entire childhood hiding in a Druid settlement deep in the forest near the border between Camelot and Essetir. Both her mother and father were capable of using magic, and they helped to teach Kiara and her brother Robyn how to control her abilities. Similarly to many of the other Druids, Kiara found that she had an affinity for healing spells, and so she spent many years trying to learn and master as many of them as she could - with the intention of using her knowledge to help others. As soon as she was made aware of her abilities, she knew she wished to become a physician.
However, as Uther’s law decreed that all magical users were evil, the Druids lived in fear. If they were discovered, all of them would be slaughtered - including the children. Occasionally, a couple of the Druids would have to travel into the city of Camelot to collect supplies that they could not get from the forest, and these journeys were highly perilous. It was during one of this brief visits when Kiara’s father was discovered, and subsequently executed. Overcome with grief and guilt, the young woman became full of hatred of all things related to King Uther and Camelot, yet as Druids were peaceful by nature - she took this anger and turned it into passion, studying magic day and night.
To make matters worse, it was not long after Kiara’s father’s death that a rumour of the Druid settlement reached the King’s ears. Still believing that all magical users were evil, Uther sent out the young Prince Arthur to lead a raid and destroy the small village. This attack was horrendous, and Kiara’s childhood home was filled with the agonized screams as Druid after Druid was cut down and killed. Kiara and her mother only just managed to escape, and both of them sustained considerable injuries, yet managed to travel far enough into the forest that the knights of Camelot did not find them and kill them too. It was during this attack that Kiara last saw her brother, and although she knows it is unlikely that he managed to survive, she can’t help but be optimistic that he is still out there, somewhere.
Shortly after this attack, once the two women had recovered somewhat, Kiara’s mother encouraged her to travel to Camelot. Although it was dangerous, they had heard rumours that Emrys was finally there, and Ariana was certain that not only was he the only one that could help the remaining Druids now, but he would also be able to protect Kiara. So, although she did not wish to leave her mother, Kiara travelled to Camelot and found Emrys. She now lives with Gaius and Emrys (who she must remember to call Merlin) under the disguise of being the new physician’s apprentice.

you arrive like warmth does, without asking permission. Before you speak, before you settle into a chair, something in the room softens. Conversations loosen their shoulders. Silences stop feeling accusatory. People don’t always know why they feel safer around you; they just do. Your presence is porous. You feel atmospheres the way skin feels temperature. Joy clings to you easily. So does unease. You often carry emotions that were never formally handed to you - just left in the air, assumed you’d hold them. Still, there is something grounding about you. You remind people that gentleness isn’t weakness, that openness can be steady. Colours: Honey, warm amber, sunlit linen Scene: Sitting cross-legged on the floor while others talk around you, quietly anchoring the room just by being there.
Logan would be lying if he wasn't looking over his shoulder just a couple times during Threshing. There were a few other cadets who had it out for him, his superiority intimidated them. Even as he watches one of them slink away deep into the valley, Logan refrains from following, from snuffing out the threat. He is not so easily bent.
You're restraint shows competence.
Looking to the voice, where it could have originated had it not vibrated within his skull, he's met with the sight of a copper swordtail slowly emerging from the shadows of dense woods, where his gleam otherwise was concealed. Logan could've easily been it's dinner had he not looked any closer.
Your golden shimmer rivals mine. A loud exhale of breath through powerful nostrils ruffles the foliage around Logan with a dangerous warmth. Such presentations may be tactful. Come. The dragon bends and allows Logan an ease to climb up his front leg, soon finding the seat thereafter, taking flight not a moment later. Diaval, he'd said in introduction once they'd gained the eye of a fair few dragons in the denser areas, a good distraction they could be down the line for the war efforts. Bait, more like Logan thought, and was equally chided by Diaval's mind for strategy.
Such thoughts clouded his mind, the elation of flight adding to a momentary lapse in alertness. How he was catapulted off Diaval's back is a mystery, the world gone black from the impact and the pain his body suddenly succumbed to. He couldn't even scream, it rendered him mute. Coming to on the ground, lush green covered in blood, he can't move. Watching that cadet come over to him, blade raised, only to be impaled from behind by Diaval's tail and forcibly thrown clear across the valley. The piercing roars of two dragons now fighting over him make the world ring in his ears as he lay there, feeling his energy seep and spill out into the wet soil beneath him.
Only briefly as he slowly blinks back the blackness, he spots a shadow descending, and he has not the faintest idea to defend himself. Diaval has been screaming at him to stay awake, to keep blinking, to move something, if he could. So Logan had started tapping his fingers on the ground, even though that was getting harder and harder to do. Little did he know the offending dragon now lay in a heap on the grass, a green dragon moving towards Diaval and they nuzzled softly.
But all Logan could see was Kiara, a halo of gold obscuring the scene before him.
Wide-eyed with panic, she barely allows Verdisia to land before she's jumped down from the creature's back and sprinting across to Logan's still body on the ground. No, no, no. This could not happen, she would not allow this to happen. She could not fathom a world without Logan by her side. Mercifully, as she reaches his prone figure, she sees that he's still conscious. Only just, from the look of the blood staining the grass under him.
"Logan! Oh no, no, no. Stay with me. Please, please stay awake. I'll - I'll get help, I'll get the mender at the college," but even as the words stumble free from her lips, she knows that's not going to work. There's no time. Desperately, she presses her hands against the worst of his wounds and glances up towards the two dragons, who seem to be watching her intently. "Please. Do something! Help me!" she cries, tears blurring her vision.
You know what to do, child. You have always known. Feel the power within you, channel the new bond between us.
Her dragon's voice in her mind is so calm, so confident, that a fraction of Kiara's panic ebbs away. Instead, she does as she is bid - delving into the well of power suddenly bubbling up within her, without a second thought. Abruptly, her hands glow a warm gold, and she can feel Logan's skin beneath her palms in a way she never has before, as though she is touching every cell in his body, and each one answers directly to her. Her power flows into him, soothing away the pain and knitting together the damaged skin in just a handful of seconds. Not even the most experienced, powerful mender was capable of such impressive feats of healing and when she is certain that no cut or even a stray bruise remains upon Logan's body, she slowly withdraws her hands.
"Are you still hurt?" she asks, urgently. She has no time to marvel at her own abilities, just yet.

❝𝓛ike me... Well, you're going to have to be more specific.❞ Alistair said, tilting his head faintly to the side as he spoke, eyeing the woman over. Vampires? Trackers? People who enjoy travelling for the hell of it? However, it was more of a necessity rather than pleasure.
Pursing her lips, she glanced around to make sure they were truly alone. "Other vampires," she clarified, her voice low. "There's at least a dozen of them. I didn't get near enough to find out anymore than that. Thought you might want to know, so you can make a quick exit." He certainly hadn't seemed the most sociable of people.
was this dumb? did he really act this dumb and not look at where he was going. this was a dumb choice. then again, there were no other options to get this problem solved. the ferry wasn't running any more today and he couldn't get in a boat himself to the mainland. he nodded. all he could really focus on was pain. he was already exhausted from clenching his fists so hard for so long. "i just wanna get this over with." jimmy couldn't even look at his leg with all the thorns in it. he might get sick. "OW!" it didn't hurt that bad but he could feel it coming out. "are we done?" he knew the answer already: no.
Her nose wrinkled sympathetically at his cry of pain, but she didn't glance away from the remaining thorns in his leg. She'd managed to get the first one out cleanly, without the thorn breaking or splintering further under the skin, and it had hardly bled at all. So far, so good. That didn't stop the pain, unfortunately. "Um...a few more to go. You're doing great," she encouraged. "Do you want me to keep going, or take a break?"
“You ever think people would be happier without their secrets?”
@apurekindness
"I don't think telling my secret will absolve me," Martin murmured, not looking at the women. He could sense great power within her but he didn't want to address it. Instead, the young man shrugged and kept step with her.
That wasn't quite the answer she was expecting, and an eyebrow curved upwards then thoughtfully. "Do you think it would be easier, though?" she asked, as she walked side by side with him. It was such a strain to Kiara to keep her own secrets firmly locked away.
“That’s not … I … ,” he trailed off, staring at her as he took the license gently from her hand. He slipped it into his wallet, making a mental note to be more careful with it in the future. Truthfully, Theodore was glad she’d agreed to come along to the bookshop with him because he’d drank a little more than usual without meaning to and at least he knew now he hadn’t ended up somewhere he shouldn’t because she was there. And if he’d trusted her enough to tell her his name even in his inebriated stated, well, maybe there was something about Kiara that even he didn’t know yet. Sighing, Theo pulled up a chair each for them both, gesturing for her to sit before he flopped into one himself. He flicked a hand toward the fireplace, only starting it with magic because he knew that she had the gifts too. He didn’t remember everything they had spoken about already, but that was something he did remember. “That was my name before I came London. I haven’t heard or used it say — ten years now? I’ll admit that I’m surprised that I told it to you, Kiara.”
She couldn't help but smile at his blatant display of magic, and her eyes were drawn to the flames for a long moment. Kiara had spent her whole life hiding her abilities, and it was more than words could say to find another person whom she did not have to hide from. "Really?" she turned back to face him, sitting down on the offered chair and linking her hands together back in her lap. "You must definitely have had too much to drink then," she teased. "Does anyone else here know?" she asked, after a moment of silence. "About your magic? I've so rarely met another person like me."
"Then it sounds like you're about to dine on Monster energy and a texmex wrap from the place across the street." Theo rolls his stool over to the desk drawers to pull out his wallet. "Unless of course you'd prefer something else. I know I've got odd tastes." He chuckles out while standing up.
She laughs, head tilting to one side as she contemplated his choice. "I'd be happy with a texmex wrap, but maybe I could grab a coffee instead? The more sugar, the better. Thanks so much, I'll get the next one."

"I'm sorry too," the other said, knocking the arrow again. "This domain is not ffor everyone." He shook his head once again, his mane of unkempt hair drifting into his eyes. "I usually do my hunting further up the mountain." He patted the woman's wounded knee and guided her into a seating position. "Can I get you a healing salve?"
It wasn't a serious injury, but her healing powers were ineffective on herself. She'd have to manage with the pain, for a few days. "Oh, please. If that won't be too much trouble? I don't want the wound to get infected."
You've been at it for hours. It's slowing down, you should go get some rest. " (Avery Morgan)
@resolutevalor
During a major incident like this, time lost its meaning. There were no shift hours or finishing time, the doctor kept working until the job was done and the patients stopped flowing in through the doors. Everyone was exhausted, but Kiara more than most; each injured, panicked patient she soothed with a surge of her healing abilities, draining her energy even more so.
"Hmm?" she glanced up from her bloodstained hands, from where she was giving them a thorough wash in the sink. "I'm alright for a while longer. Just in case anyone takes a turn for the worst."
" Can I at least get something besides pudding? " (Aravis)
@resolutevalor
"Of course," she chuckled, swirling around the kitchen as she wiped her floury hands on her apron. "I've got a vegetable stew on the hob, and one of the loaves I cooked this morning should be ready in just a moment. Help yourself to the stew, there's bowls in that cupboard on the left."
Fergus watched the way in which she held the flask. As if it might be taken from her just as quickly as everything else had been. His jaw tightened slightly before he took a long awaited breath.
“Ye can start by not talkin’ like ye owe me a debt.” He said at last. His voice was far quieter now. “I did what any decent man would’ve done. As for what comes next, that’s for you to decide. I’ve a road to follow come mornin’, but I’m no’ in the habit of leavin’ folk to fend for themselves if they’ve nowhere else to go. That's for sure."
She smiled at him, her gaze still undeniably filled with gratitude. Debt or no debt, she knew she was only alive because of Fergus' help, and that wasn't something Kiara would be quick to forget.
"I fear I have not encountered many decent men," she admitted, and a quiet, humourless huff of laughter escaped her. She took a sip from the flask, before handing it back with another thankful smile. "If you don't mind me joining you, I'd be very thankful for the company? Just until we get to a bigger town, or city. Somewhere I can blend in, unnoticed." The last thing she wanted was to be captured again.

Carter mirrored her grin. “Yeah? Well, unfortunately, Romano’s pretty small too. He’s called a rat for more reasons than one. But he’s rarely on the same floor, so I doubt you’ll have to encounter him too often.”
Scrunching his nose, he appraised Kiara with mounting interest. “Rounders?” he echoed, intrigued. “Can’t say I’ve heard of that one…and is netball basically volleyball? Forgive me. I’m just an uncultured American.”
Amused, he stepped back once the last of it had been cleaned away, and folded his arms. “If you’re that good at drinking coffee and eating pie, you and Jerry might come to blows. Believe me when I say he’ll fight you over the last bear claw…though he, himself, is a teddy bear, so he might win just by giving you his classic pout.”
A total pain…
Carter laughed at that. “Well, that’s promising, at least,” he teased. “What do you think you want your focus to be? I know it’s early, but I assumed from the get-go I wanted to enter a surgical residency, seeing how it’s the most respected and difficult of the focuses.” He shrugged. “I quickly realized I like being here with the patients…I like helping them, and guiding them, and being there for them at their darkest hour.”
It made him feel useful, and needed, and with every life saved, it helped ease the permanent groove against his heart from his brother’s passing.
Her nose wrinkled again at the description of Romano, but she was certainly pleased with the warning; Kiara usually gave everyone the benefit of the doubt, but she hardly wanted to be making friends with him.
She chuckled at his questions, and shook her head. "Rounders is a bit like your baseball, but more fun," she teased. "And netball is more similar to basketball, but you're not allowed to move with the ball. They're not as popular as your sports through, not many people play them outside of school."
She finished cleaning up the room, washing her hands thoroughly in the sink and then turning back to face Carter with an amused smile. "Ah, I fear I am quite vulnerable to a well-timed pout," she admitted. "So I'm sure Jerry has nothing to worry about."
Her expression turned contemplative at his question about residencies. "I do really love emergency medicine, but I've been considering paediatrics. Or orthopedics. I've got quite a knack for setting bones...and giving out lollipops," she chuckled. "I just want to get involved with as much as I can while I'm here, whatever I can do to make myself useful. Including treating my colleagues," she grinned.
