Do I Have To?

“Honestly? I have mixed emotions about this town.” He admitted.

“So far I’m liking what I see.  Why the indecision so far for you?”

“Their drinks aren’t strong enough for me.”

“I’ve found that no drink is ever really strong enough when you need it to be.”

“I did try.” He chuckled. “It’s nice to meet you, Ben. I’m Freddie.”

“Nice to meet you too Freddie.  How do you like this weird town?”

“You have a good point there. I guess weirdness is the new normal here.”

“Well, thanks for answering my odd question.  I’m Ben by the way.”

as he noticed the other’s face looking away from him, he wrapped his arms around him once again. “don’t cry. that’s my job.” he chuckled before he rolled his eyes playfully at the other once more, his eyes slightly tearing up. “you were like an aa person around me 24/7. except like, more helpful.” he sighed. “you wanna grab some doughnuts?”

Ben immediately returned Klaus’ hug, taking a ragged breath and desperately trying not to cry.  “Can’t tell me not to cry.  Fuck.”  He laughed a bit, though he immediately looked up when he tried to meet Klaus’ gaze and he saw the wetness there.  “That’s not fair, you can’t cry.  If you cry I’m going to cry and somehow Diego will find out and none of us will ever hear the end of it.”  He wiped under his eyes before shaking his head. “I was wildly unhelpful.  You ignored me the whole time you idiot.  But I’m immensely happy you are better now, even if it was without my help.”  Ben ruffled the other’s hair with a smile and nodded. “Doughnuts is always a great plan.”

“it still feels so strange to be alive. like i’m grateful that i am, but it’s like strange. like i should be dead, but i’m not.”

“You were dead before this too?  That’s cool, reassuring.  I’m still trying to decide if this is all..real.  It’s crazy, right?”

“I don’t think anything is normal here.”

“Normal is relative.  Being that I’ve been dead for five years before I showed up here, pretty much anything will be acceptably normal.”

“About six months now and yeah, I actually have Some people are a lot younger too.”

“Gah.  Okay.  Just...making sure this is normal?  For here? I guess.” 

“always knew you would be proud of me.” klaus chuckled before he let out a genuine smile. “you’re the positive to my mental shit. trust me and i know, you told me heaps of times.” he rolled his eyes in a playful manner. “but i have goals. i want to summon people back, i want to um, fucking get a normal ass life for once?”

Ben had to look away for a second, knowing he’d get hell forever if he actually started crying from relief that Klaus was actually getting better.  That his brother would be okay, and not hanging by a thread until his inevitable death.  Swallowing thickly he nodded, “Good.  I’m glad you knew.  Though I’d argue whether or not having your sad, dead brother looming over your shoulder every day was something you saw as a positive.” He chuckled a little before nudging him. “Good!”

klaus shrugged his shoulders slightly. “clean as i can be here. apparently i haven’t seen any drug dealers here and took it as a sign, also kind of hoped that dave or you showed up.” he expressed as he pulled away from the hug. “besides, it’s been nicer here. not as many ghosts and my mental shit is slightly at bay.”

“Klaus!  I’m so proud of you!”  Ben beamed, pulling back to look at his brother with delight.  “Really, that’s fantastic.  I’m so, so happy.  Your mental shit is partially you brother, but I’m very, very glad your dealing with it healthier.  I don’t think you understand how fucking hard it was to watch you do all that shit to yourself.”

touching his cheeks lightly he let out a gasp. “jesus fucking christ.” he returned to hugging him tight, not sure whether letting go was an option anymore. “it’s been so long. we can finally get proper food and shit! and i’m clean as fuck here at the moment.”

Ben laughed a bit at the tighter hug, but he wasn’t eager to let him go either, the affection and actual touch something he’d missed desperately.  “It’s been forever.  And I’d love to.  Wait, you’re not shitting me?  You’re clean?”

“well jesus christ.” he dropped the coffee in his hands before racing over to him. “i thought something was off when you weren’t lurking over my shoulder constantly.” he wrapped the other in a hug.

Ben turned, a grin lighting his face at the sigt of Klaus, not dead or seemingly too drugged up.  “You shoulda known I’d show up to bug you before long.”  Hugging the other back tightly, he held on, speaking softly.  “It’s nice to be able to actually hug you Klaus.”
