Q. Can you translate the main story?

I understand there are other translators already working on translating the main story. As such, I am not working on it and I don’t have any progress updates.

Q: Can I use/repost your translations?

Screenshots, line bots, and other short excerpts are totally fine. Credit is appreciated but not necessary.

Using or reposting full translations is prohibited without permission + credit. If you find my work anywhere apart from this blog or yaycupcake, please let me know.

Q: I found a typo/correction here or on the wiki

Please let me know! I’m still learning + I do everything myself (translating, editing, formatting, wiki coding, etc.), so mistakes happen. I do my best to fix them as I catch them, but things still slip through the cracks sometimes.

Do not edit or alter my work without receiving my permission first.

Q: Is there anything you’re uncomfortable with in your tags/comments?

I personally don’t mind ship talk! However, it makes me uncomfortable seeing character hate or backhanded compliments about characters... (e.g. “I usually hate XXX but they’re better here”). I respect your opinion, but I’d appreciate it if you could refrain from leaving those types of comments directly on my posts, thank you.

Q: How did you learn Japanese?

My Japanese language background comes from a mix of classroom and self study. I have also been exposed to and consumed Japanese media (such as anime, video games, etc.) my entire life.

Personal Note

I am a busy adult, and translating is just a hobby of mine. However, I have been making an effort to post pretty consistently because I have personal JP proficiency goals that I aim to meet, and the only way I can get there is by doing my best to practise it regularly.

My goal in creating this blog was to simply have fun while practising Japanese. As such, I am just translating the content that I want to at my own pace~

Kumon: Who’s gonna be last place!? I feel like that comedian ate quite a bit.

Kazunari: But the guest didn't eat much and I don't think any of the dishes looked particularly expensive?

Kumon: Oh man, that’s true now that you point that out!

Masumi: …

Kazunari: Ah, Massu! You came at the perf time!

Kumon: Come watch with us, Masumi-san!

Masumi: Isn’t the show basically over?

Kazunari: Don’t sweat the details. C’mon, take a seat!

Kumon: Who do you think’ll be last place, Masumi-san?

Masumi: I haven’t even watched this so I have no idea.

Kumon: Just take a guess!

Masumi: Okay. This person.

Kumon: I was thinking them too!

Kazunari: I was thinking maybe it’d be that person~.

Kumon: Ah, it’s time for them to announce the results!

Kazunari: HUH!? The person Massu said was actually last place! You haven’t even watched the show!? That’s amazing.

Masumi: It’s just a coincidence.

Kazunari: That’s still impressive though!

Kumon: Phew. This show was so fun I couldn’t help but watch it. I’d sure like to appear on it one day, too~.

Kazunari: It’s scary to think you’ll have to pay if you end up last. But getting to eat yummy food is definitely a perk, wouldn’t ya say!

Masumi: I feel like you guys would get an offer for this kind thing.

Kumon: I wouldn’t be so sure about that. There might be staff members who want Masumi-san to appear on the show!

Masumi: …I highly doubt it.

Izumi: Sorry for calling you over like this, Masumi-kun.

Masumi: I’m always happy to get a call from you.

Izumi: Ahaha, thank you. There are two things I’d like to discuss with you today.

Masumi: You have two things you want to talk about…

Izumi: Err, they’re work related. First, we’ve received a questionnaire in advance for a magazine interview. The magazine wants to publish a photo that you have with the theme of “something that made me happy recently”. I know the theme is a bit abstract…

Masumi: So I can use a picture of anything that made me happy—like an item?   I have something you gave me, for example.

Izumi: Don’t use that! But I think something along the lines of what you just described would work.

Masumi: I got it.

Izumi: The second thing is that you got an offer from a certain variety show. The show is called “Feast Price Battle”… it’s quite popular. Have you heard of it? They’d like both Masumi-kun and Tsuzuru-kun to appear. Here’s the project description.

Masumi: (…This is the show Kumon and Kazunari were watching earlier.)

Izumi: It looks like we’ll be allowed to promote our new song as well.

Masumi: I’ve heard of this show… but do they really want me?

Izumi: Yep, it’s an unmistakable offer for you, Masumi-kun. I know you feel like you’re not the best at variety shows… But I think it could be a nice challenge for you to take on.

Masumi: If you have high expectations of me, then I’ll do it.

Izumi: I’m happy to hear that, but I’d like you yourself to decide if you’d like to do it. Let me know after you’ve given it some thought, alright? There’s no need to rush.

Masumi: …If you say so. Sounds good. But I’m pretty sure I’ll say I’ll do it. I’ll think about it for now though.

Tsuzuru: Alright, I think we’ve went around half the rest stop already?

Masumi: There were a lot of difference facilities like curated shops, spas, and restaurants.

Itaru: We walked way too much. RIP to my HP…

Masumi: (That being said, I still can’t remember coming here when I was little…)

Chikage: Hm? Citron’s gone.

Sakuya: He was just with us a minute ago. I wonder when we got separated?

Itaru: Searching around this huge place is gonna be a giga hassle, so I'm pulling out our last resort… we gotta ask them to make a lost child announcement.

Tsuzuru: Uh, I’ll remind you Citron-san is an adult. Let’s try sending him a LIME first, shall we…

*runs over*

Citron: Everyone~! There is a tasty looking food stall over here~!

Sakuya: Ah, Citron-san!

Tsuzuru: We were wondering where you went… But good thing we found him so quickly.

Itaru: I’m pretty worn out from walking around, so why don’t we take a break while catching a bite to eat?

Sakyo: Agreed.

Sakuya: Wow, this gelato is so yummy and refreshing!

Masumi: It’s light and easy to eat.

Tsuzuru: These fries are savory and taste great. Wanna try one?

Itaru: Maaan, sitting back and soaking your feet in a footbath sure hits the spot...

Sakyo: Yeah. The scenery’s pretty too.

Itaru: Ah, right. Can we take a quick peek at a shop later? I’d like to buy some rare local items or interesting goods if they have some.

Masumi: I’d also like to buy some local curry and bring it home for her.

Sakyo: I don’t think this area’s particularly famous for curry, but you can try takin’ a look anyways.

Chikage: It looks like there's a... photo cut-out panel with this site’s mascot characters beside that bench over there.

Citron: Taking pictures with that would be lots of fun~. Tsuzuru, Masumi and I will put our faces in the cut outs together!

Tsuzuru: Me? I mean, there are three characters in the panel…

Masumi: Hell no.

Citron: No, no! Do not be a party pooper. If we show these candid birthday photos to Director, I am sure she will be delighted~.

Masumi: That’s true. I’m in.

Itaru: That’s Masumi for you.

Sakyo: Alright. I’ll take the picture, so you three go stand beside the panel too.

Sakuya: Thank you very much, Sakyo-san!

Tsuzuru: Well, we had a pretty nice time strolling around today, didn’t we?

Sakuya: Right. I think we’ve been to all the facilities now, more or less.

Citron: Masumi, were you able to remember anything from when you were little?

Masumi: No, nothing came to mind.

Citron: Oh, that is a shame…

Masumi: But it wasn’t a bad day. The main point of today was for my birthday project anyways.

Itaru: I see, I see. I’m glad if you had fun today, Masumi.

Chikage: Now then, shall we give that to the birthday boy?

Masumi: That?

Sakuya: Happy birthday, Masumi-kun!

Troupe members: Happy birthday!

Masumi: …Thanks.

Citron: Hurry up and open your present!

Masumi: Is this… a business card holder?

Itaru: Since you’re in charge of our theatre’s marketing, you’ll be interacting with even more people from now. So we figured that would definitely come in handy.

Masumi: The design is simple and the material is high quality. It looks like it’ll last for a long time.

Chikage: We’re glad if you like it.

Citron: It looks very cool. Perfect for Masumi!

Masumi: (This sound…)

Tsuzuru: Ah. It’s gotten pretty late, huh? Should we go look for some souvenirs for everyone back at the dorm?

Sakyo: Sounds good. The pictures came out pretty well if I do say so myself.

Citron: I am looking forward to showing them to Director later~!

Masumi: (I see. It’s almost time to go home…)

Young Masumi: Grandma, what’s that sound?

Hatsue: You see, that sound is telling everyone it’s time to head home.

Citron: Masumi is in trouble, so I brought him over!

Masumi: I’m not in trouble. I can’t think of a place I want to go for the birthday project. That’s all.

Sakuya: Oh, really? That sounds like quite a problem itself…

Citron: That is why we will help him pick the place to go~.

Sakuya: Okay, count me in!

Masumi: This is getting blown out of proportion…

Sakuya: We have to choose a location to celebrate Masumi-kun’s birthday… So why don’t we go to a place that Masumi-kun likes or has always wanted to visit?

Masumi: And that’s exactly why nothing comes to mind.

Sakuya: Ah, I see! Umm, what should we do then…

Citron: Why don’t we start by thinking of places asphyxiated with things Masumi likes?

Tsuzuru: In any case, I had no idea there was such a big rest stop here.

Itaru: Same here. Btw, I was kinda surprised Masumi chose this place for his birthday project.

Masumi: I never thought we’d end up at a rest stop either.

Citron: Ohh, did Chikage get the location wrong?

Masumi: The place I wanted to go matches this place. …Or at least it half does.

Sakyo: Half?

Masumi: At first, I wanted to go to Zephyr Garden Park which I went to with my grandma when I was little. But when I looked that amusement park up, it already closed down… and got replaced by this rest stop.

Itaru: I see. That’s what you mean by half.

Sakyo: I’ve heard the name Zephyr Garden Park before. I had no clue it closed already…

Sakuya: I see. So this is a very memorable place for you, Masumi-kun.

Masumi: It might be. I’m not sure. I heard from grandma that I went there before to celebrate my birthday. Honestly though, I have no memories of that time.

Sakyo: Well, that was when you were a kid, after all.

Masumi: To be honest, I thought my memory might get jogged if I came here. But I don’t think that’s going to happen.

Tsuzuru: Even so, this is the spot where that amusement park used to stand. You might remember something while you have a look around.

Chikage: Let’s take a stroll around first, shall we?

Masumi: Yes. I attend seminars from time to time to learn about promotions. That what I was doing today.

Hatsue: “I see. You’re working hard. How is your health?”

Masumi: I’m fine.

Hatsue: “That is good to hear. I am the happiest if you are doing well.” “Also… I know it’s a tad early, but happy birthday. I had originally called you to tell you that.”

Masumi: Thank you, grandma.

Hatsue: “Speaking of birthdays, I wonder if you still remember? It was back we were still living together…” “We went together once to a small amusement park called Zephyr Garden Park to celebrate your birthday.”

Masumi: Zephyr Garden Park?

Hatsue: “Yes. You must have liked it quite a bit since you threw a tantrum when it was time to go home, which was unusual for you.”

Masumi: …Sorry, I don’t really remember.

Hatsue: “That’s alright. You were still small back then, after all.” “But to think that Masumi has now grown up so big and splendidly. Fufu. It makes me so proud.”

Masumi: (Zehpyr Garden Park… I have absolutely no recollection of that.) (It must have been when I was still really little. It’s kind of a bummer I couldn’t reminisce about the memory with grandma.)

Tsuzuru: If we don’t place a marshmallow in from of Mikage-san then the project can’t proceed, huh?

Itaru: Hey. I brought the headphones. We’re using them for the project, so try them on to test out the volume.

Tsuzuru: Itaru-san? Why are you here…

Itaru: Ahh… well, let’s just say it’s retribution for my past actions… or putting it simply, I was recruited to be Masumi’s helper.

Tsuzuru: W-What?

Itaru: Don’t sweat the deets. Here, put the headphones on.

Masumi: Is everyone ready?

Muku: We’re good to go here!

Guy: Please proceed at any time.

Masumi: Okay, let's start.

Izumi: Sure. I’m turning on the camera!

Masumi: This is MANKAI Channel. For today’s project, we’re going a sleep endurance project. Here are our contestants.

Tsuzuru: You call that MC-ing?! …Ahem, I’m Spring troupe’s Minagi Tsuzuru

Tenma: Summer troupe’s Sumeragi Tenma.

Sakyo: Autumn troupe’s Furuichi Sakyo.

Hisoka: …Mikage Hisoka from Winter troupe.

Masumi: From here on, Muku and Guy will make various sounds into the binaural microphone. The plan is for everyone to try their best not to fall asleep while listening to the sounds.

Tenma: That makes sense to me.

Tsuzuru: Does anything happen if you lose?

Masumi: If you lose then you’ll have to say a situational voice line into the binaural mic.

Tsuzuru: (Uh, he totally got that from…)

Tenma: (What the hell did Itaru-san teach Masumi!?)

Sakyo: (That was Chigasaki’s idea, wasn’t it?)

Hisoka: (Zzz…)

Itaru: (I legit didn’t do anything, honest. This is a false accusation. Masumi just learned it on his own from my stream…) (They’ll never buy that though… *sigh*. If looks could kill.)

Masumi: Alright, begin.

Muku: I’ll go first. I will use these azuki beans recreate the sound of waves.

*wave sounds*

Tsuzuru: What a nice sound…

Tenma: I’m just hearing the sound, but I can totally picture the waves.

Hisoka: Zzz, zzz…

Guy: I am up next. I will use a cotton swab and rub it against the microphone.

*muffled noises*

Sakyo: This feels… ticklish…

Tsuzuru: That being said… it’s surprisingly nice.

Masumi: …That’s all.

Tsuzuru: Zzz…

Tenma: Zzz…

Sakyo: …

Hisoka: Zzz… zzz…

Izumi: Alright, that’s a wrap. Sakyo-san and Tenma-kun have been busy with work lately, so it was super effective…

Masumi: Tsuzuru was also working on a school report until late.

Muku: It looks like everyone is sleeping soundly.

Guy: Let us leave them to sleep for now.

Itaru: By the way, you two are way too good at ASMR. Even I felt like I was in danger when Guy-san started whispering sound effects. If I had pulled an all-nighter, I also would’ve fell victim to your voice lines.

Izumi: You two should definitely do another ASMR video.

Guy: I shall give it some thought.

Muku: Sure, if the chance comes up!

Itaru: …In any case, filming two videos by splitting up the situational voice lines… big brain, Masumi.

Masumi: With all the cuts, we can even make another unreleased version.

Itaru: Aw, you’re welcoming me home?

Itaru: And he’s not even trying to hide his disgust. …Wait, did I do something again?

Masumi: …

Itaru: Uh, seriously, what’s up?

Masumi: *Sigh*…

Masumi: (…Was that the sound of a car?) (Could it be…)

Masumi: … (All I heard was the sound of a car, so it could be Tasuku, Sakyo, Chikage or Banri…)

Izumi: There we go.

Masumi: —.

Izumi: …Hm? Masumi-kun?

Masumi: Welcome home.

Izumi: I’m back. Did you need something?

Masumi: I was looking for you since I wanted to talk to you about MANKAI Channel. But I’m happy just getting to see your face right now.

Izumi: Oh, were you? Sorry. I’m free after this, so feel free to discuss with me anytime.

Masumi: Great. But before that… we made curry, so let’s eat.

Izumi: Ooh! Really? I can’t wait~!

Masumi: (…I really do love your smiling face.)

Izumi: Now then, you wanted to talk about the project, was it?

Masumi: Yeah. …I’d like to do a project on MANKAI Channel using binaural microphones. I also asked Itaru to come up with some ideas, but we thought a “sleep endurance” project might work well.

Izumi: A sleep endurance project…?

Masumi: The more I researched ASMR videos, the more I realized how drastically their contents and types differ. I think that goes to show how different people find different sounds comforting. So we both brought up sounds we thought were “good” and came up with a project that could include a variety of elements.

Izumi: …

Masumi: What do you think?

Izumi: That’s great, isn’t it? That sounds interesting to me!

Masumi: …By the way.

Izumi: Hm?

Masumi: I’m asking as reference. …What are your favourite sounds?

Izumi: Me? Hmmm, nothing comes to mind immediately… But I suppose things like the sounds of applause and everyone’s laughter. As well as the sounds of vocal training coming from the rehearsal room. They're the sounds that someone is living there, no matter where we are. It’s like those sounds remind me that there are others there besides me. I hear those sounds like they’re a given, but surely they aren’t something to take for granted. …Err, I guess that’s off from the aim of the videos, isn't it?

Masumi: …I feel the same way.

Izumi: You do?

Masumi: I also thought that after listening to various sounds throughout the day today. The sounds of cooking. The sounds of the front door and garage opening. The sounds of a spoon clinking against a plate. When I hear those sounds, you come to mind. It’s because I know you’re here. …That’s why I like those sounds.

Izumi: (Normally, you might think that sounds a bit unnerving…) (But mysteriously, when Masumi-kun says it, I don’t mind. …In fact, I feel a bit embarrassed.) …Now that you mention it again, we do live under the same room, huh? I’m sure our fans will also be happy if they get to know what kind of sounds everyone likes.

Masumi: …Yeah.

Guy: A fisherman I met while I was out fishing said they were beautiful and gave them to me.

Muku: You can hear the sound of the sea when you put one up to your ear. Here. Please give it a try as well, Masumi-kun!

Masumi: … …I guess it kind of sounds like that.

Muku: Right! When I listen to this sound, I feel myself gradually relaxing and growing sleepy…

Guy: It is said that sounds from the environment have a healing effect. That would include the sound of birds chirping, the wind, and the crackle of bonfires.

Masumi: I’m aware. I came across those while I was searching for ASMR videos. (That reminds me, I tried listening to one once and ended up falling asleep.)

Muku: It feels like your mind becomes so much clearer when you’re exposed to the sounds of nature while you’re out camping or travelling.

Guy: Humans originally lived amongst nature, after all. Perhaps we think that way instinctively.

Masumi: (It’s the complete opposite of Itaru’s stream…) (ASMR itself has loads of different genres, so I guess different people find different sounds comforting.) (…I wonder what kind of sounds she would like?) Ah. …Maybe I could make a project out of this.

Muku: Masumi-kun?

Aoi [Masumi]: “Next up is a first timer, huh? I was told they were kinda unique…” “Huh? Uh, that’s a guy, isn't it? Well, he is still a customer.” “…I’ll get him to pour me some nice, expensive liquor. Alright, I’ll just go and work my magic like I always do.” “Welcome. Thank you for choosing me.”

Ryo [Azami]: “Ah, right…”

Aoi [Masumi]: “Nice to meet you. The name’s Aoi. And you?”

Ryo [Azami]: “I’m Ryo. Uh, well… thanks for coming over.”

Aoi [Masumi]: “Men don’t come here often. Why’d you choose this place? Are you here with a friend, perhaps?”

Ryo [Azami]: “Ah, no… my boss brought me here.”

Aoi [Masumi]: “I see. Is that what happened? …So where’s your boss?”

Ryo [Azami]: “They said I could order whatever I wanted and ditched me for another table…”

Aoi [Masumi]: “Mhmm. So can we really order whatever we want?”

Ryo [Azami]: “Yeah, well… that’s what they said, so.”

Aoi [Masumi]: “Let’s take them up on that offer and pour ourselves a drink then. That bottle over there tastes great and it's reasonably priced.”

Ryo [Azami]: “Sure. Let’s go with that then.”

Aoi [Masumi]: “So, Ryo-kun, you got yourself a girlfriend or something?

Ryo [Azami]: “…HUH!? N-No! I’m not popular at all!”

Aoi [Masumi]: “Huh? You’re pulling my leg, aren’t you? It doesn’t look like that at all. Actually, I’d bet you’d be popular with how calm and collected you look.”

Ryo [Azami]: “Not at all. I’ve never been very bright…”

Aoi [Masumi]: “Just brushing your hair back a bit might change your vibe. Shall I style it for you next time?”

Ryo [Azami]: “Oh, would that be alright? Sure… go ahead then.”

Aoi [Masumi]: “I’m liking that honesty. Ah, your glass is empty. How about another one? By the way, ‘good men’ drink from his bottle of alcohol.”

Ryo [Azami]: “Really? I’ll get that too then… In any case, you’re a good talker, Aoi-san.”

Aoi [Masumi]: “I see. You can hold your liquor. I’ve probably been drinking quite a bit too…” “Ah, in that case, why don’t you try this champagne that’s been all the rage lately? It's got a smooth taste and I bet people who can handle alcohol will love it.” “…Also, if you order this, I’ll be in first place this month.” “Say, won’t you make me number 1?”

Ryo [Azami]: “Hm? …It’s not my money, so I can order it. Whatever. Are you okay? You must be pretty tipsy at this point, right?”

Aoi [Masumi]: “Huh…? Does he seem different all of a sudden or is that just me?”

Ryo [Azami]: “Ahaha. My mood changes a bit when I’m drunk.”

Aoi [Masumi]: “Ahh… I see. He’s that type, huh? It’s not bad though. Alright, let’s pop open another bottle then.”

Ryo [Azami]: “Go ahead. It’s just another tick on our bill anyways.”

Aoi [Masumi]: “…You’re way too strong with alcohol! You might even have a higher tolerance than me…”

Ryo [Azami]: “Ahaha. You’re surprisingly weak sauce.”

Aoi [Masumi]: “Are you picking a fight or something?”

*phone rings*

Ryo [Azami]: “Ah, it’s my boss.” “…Hello? Okay, I understand.” “Sorry, but it looks like we’re heading out now. Thank you for today. I had fun.”

Aoi [Masumi]: “I see… that’s good. Thanks for ordering so many bottles.

Ryo [Azami]: “You’re welcome. I need you to make me into a good man, so I’ll come back again!

Aoi [Masumi]: “…Hah, geez. Don’t come here again.”

Izumi: Great job! The both of you did amazing! Did you guys decide what the story was going to be like beforehand?

Azami: Nope, that was improv.

Masumi: We came up with all of that up just now.

Izumi: Woah. Even the part where Ryo’s personality changes when he’s drunk?

Azami: Well, yeah.

Izumi: I’m curious which one is his true personality. That was super engaging! Your improv was great, Azami-kun. It was also impressive how you improvised along with the play, Masumi-kun. Also, your gestures and conversation topics where perfect for a host, Masumi-kun! As expected from watching that drama!

Masumi: Thank you for the compliment. I worked hard to research hosts for you.

Izumi: Alright, on that note, shall we take the picture for our records?

Masumi: Sure.

Azami: Since we have the props we prepared with us, why don’t you try usin’ one of these bottles or glasses to look like a host?

Masumi: Good point… That could work. (If it was Aoi, the host I was playing, then…) I’ll go with this then.

Izumi: Nice! You look just like a host. I’m taking it~!

Azami: You’ve got a nice expression, but isn’t your face kinda close to the bottle?

Masumi: If it’s Aoi, then I thought he’d offer this kind of fanservice to the customers who buy him expensive drinks.

Azami: Ahh… if you put it that way, I see it now.

Izumi: (Masumi-kun really has a high understanding of hosts. Maybe that was not the best for his education…)

Practise Conversation 1

On top of “mirrors” being the main theme of the upcoming show, “brothers” is also the sub-theme.  

I don’t have any blood-related brothers, but I’ve played the role of a brother in our plays prior to this.  

I experienced a lot of things while I was doing my role study for my past brother roles. There's also a lot of guys around me that always take care of me like I’m their brother.  

That’s why I feel like I can act as a brother even better than before. I’d like you to keep your eyes on my improved brotherly acting, too.  

By the way, do you prefer my roles as an older brother or younger brother? It might be a good idea to practice more for the role of an older brother so you can rely on me more like that.  

Practise Conversation 2

Muku and Citron were talking about the “Mirror Pond”. They said it’s a power spot that can tell your fate.  

Apparently, if you place a coin a fortune-telling slip and float it out onto the pond, you can tell from how long it takes to sink, and where it sinks.  

Like a connection with come soon it sinks quickly, your fate is someone close to you if it sinks close by, your fate is someone who is far from you if it sinks far away, and so forth.  

It’s said that apart from love, it can also tell your fortune for work and friendships. Both Muku and Citron were getting excited saying they want to try it out.  

I don’t really care. Even if I tried it, it’s obvious it’ll sink the moment I place it on the water. I’ve already met my destined fate right in front of me, after all.  

Practise Conversation 3

It looks like there’s a mirror house in the amusement park that’s in this guidebook.  

The attraction is a mirror maze where all the walls are mirrors… I’d love to go there with you.  

If all the walls were mirrors, then it does sound like it’d be hard to tell which way to go and which paths are actually real…  

But being surrounded by so many of you reflected in so many mirrors, and getting to see all angles of you would be absolute bless.  

*Sigh*… if we were together, then I wouldn’t mind getting lost in the mirror maze and never finding our way out.  

But I know you’d say that’ll cause you trouble, so we’ll clear the maze properly.  

Don’t worry. Whether it’s an amusement park or mirror house, I’ll escort you while holding your hand tightly so we won’t get separated.    

Masumi & Juza Talk

Masumi: I’m done with the mop.  

Juza: Thanks. I’ve finished tidyin’ up here too. I guess all that's left is wiping the mirror.  

Masumi: Yeah.  

Juza: … ………  

Masumi: …You’ve stopped cleaning. What’s up?  

Juza: A-Ah, my bad. …A couple of days ago, Kumon’s uni friend said me ‘n Kumon look alike. That made me feel good. That guy's brighter and more expressive than me, but I wonder if we look alike to other people... I couldn't help but think about that when I saw myself in the mirror.

Masumi: …Well, I wouldn’t say you guys are identical. But aren't there times when your facial features... and your expressions are pretty similar? …You’re brothers after all.  

Juza: ‘S that so? …Thanks.  

Masumi: …Let’s continue cleaning.  

Juza: Right, on it. Let’s get back to it.

Azami: Our theme… is a host club!? Are you for real…

Masumi: …! A host club…

Azami: Hm? What’s up, Masumi-san?

Masumi: …It’s nothing. The outline says… “When a popular host arrives at his assigned table, he finds a timid-looking male customer who was brought over by his boss.” “The boss heads to another table, telling the male customer order whatever he wants. The customer, confused and resigned, chooses a host at random.” “Thinking the client might drop some cash, the host looks after him enthusiastically—.”

Azami: It’s a relief the customer is a man for a lotta reasons…

Masumi: There are two characters: the popular host, “Aoi”, and the timid customer, “Ryo”. The lines that must be included are: “Thank you for today. I had fun”, and…

Azami: “Hah, don’t come here again…” A host, huh… that sounds hard…

Masumi: If those are the details, then we can do whatever and pull it off. I don’t think it’s that difficult.

Azami: Masumi-san, you free today? I wanna talk about our two-man show from yesterday.

Masumi: Sounds good.

Azami: Where’s Tsuzuru-san?

Masumi: He’s out right now.

Azami: I’ll get right to the point. I wanna discuss if we should perform it as improv or decide the flow of the story beforehand.

Masumi: Got it.

Azami: Which one do you wanna do when you’re the host?

Masumi: I’m sure I can pull off the host act, so complete improv is fine with me. Do you think you can manage totally improvising as the customer?

Azami: Heh. You’re pretty confident in playing a host, huh? I’ll be fine, too. I’ll act out my customer role to match your host role.

Masumi: Sounds good. Let’s go with that then.

Azami: Kk, cool.

Masumi: Has it started already?

Izumi: Nope, not yet. I heard in today’s episode, there’s going to a battle over the princess with the Glitzy Host Club. I can’t wait to watch.

Masumi: (Director looks so cute when she’s excited…) (It happened as a coincidence, but I’m glad I found out the other day that Director was watching this drama alone late at night.) (I can research Director’s preferences by watching this. Plus, we can spend some time alone together, even if it’s just for this moment.) By the way, were you the one who included the host theme for the two-man shows?

Izumi: Yeah, that was me! I figured you would notice. I can’t wait to see you as a host, Masumi-kun,

Masumi: Great. I’ll do my best for you.

Izumi: Ah, the show started!

Masumi: (I have to watch this drama and learn about hosts and their customers so I can get Director to compliment me on our two-man show…) (Popular hosts absolutely have to pull and sell the romance card. Even if you’re going for a cool type, you have a certain level of flirtiness and energy.) (And it’s not just about drinking, they also have to keep the conversation up and going.) (…That kind of sounds like someone like Kazunari. But maybe that’s the kind of person who’s suited to be a host.)

Masumi: (The best way to learn how Kazunari acts is to observe him closely.) …

Kazunari: Mornin’, Tsumutsumu~!

Tsumugi: Good morning, Kazu-kun.

Kazunari: The flowers are super pretty today like always! They’re all sparkly since you just watered them. How nice!

Tsumugi: Fufu. Why, thank you.

Masumi: (The way he casually gives compliments over trivial things fits a host to a tee. It’s just like the hosts in the drama.)

Tsumugi: Hm? It’s Masumi-kun. It’s rare for you to come to the flower bed in the morning. Did you two come together?

Masumi: No.

Kazunari: Hey, we so came together, didn’t we!? My man, you were waiting in front of my room and followed me all the way here!? Not to mention your eyes are boring holes into me… being a popular guy sure is tough!

Tsumugi: Errm. And the meaning of this is?

Masumi: I’m observing Kazunari for my role study.

Tsumugi: Role study? Do you mean for your host role?

Masumi: Yeah.

Kazunari: Ooh, I see~! Hey, if you told me, then I would’ve acted more like a host!

Masumi: You have the qualities of a host the way you are already. So all I need to do is observe the regular you.

Kazunari: Seriously!? I’m like a host the way I am now!? I mean, I guess it’s fine if you say so~. Ah. But for hosts, I think it’d be better to get closer to your customers~. Also, you absolutely can’t forget to look into their eyes when you talk to them ✩ What’s more… shower them with compliments! And never go against them!

Tsumugi: It might be a good idea to learn how to offer moistened hand towels, how to light a cigarette, and when you should wipe the condensation off a glass. However, I think the most important thing is to show you are listening carefully to the customer.

Sakyo: What’re you guys yappin’ about this early in the morning…

Tsumugi: Ahaha… I see he could hear us from all the way over there.

Masumi: We were just talking about my role study.

Masumi: …I tried it out today, but I have no idea what’s so good about it.

Kazunari: For real? But I’m sure it’ll help a ton with your uni studies and business once you master how to use it! I bet it’ll be a super great ally for you, especially since you’re currently doing promotional work!

Masumi: You think so…? I see, so it can be useful.

Izumi: If you’re not sure where to start, then why don’t you have Kazunari-kun teach you how to use it?

Tsuzuru: (He said he wasn’t going to use the tablet at first, but it looks like he’s gotten a handle on it.) (Is he studying or something…?)

Masumi: You’re cute… I love you… your smile…

Tsuzuru: Hold up, are you writing a letter to Director?

Masumi: Pipe down. Don’t just look without asking.

Tsuzuru: Yeah, my bad for peeking… But I never thought you’d be using the tablet to write that.

Masumi: With this, I can write as many draft messages as I want without wasting any paper. I’m going to draft and gather everything I want to write on my tablet and then copy it onto actual letter paper.

Tsuzuru: He’s sure come up with a strange use for it…

Masumi: There's nothing strange about this. …Kazunari can be useful once in a while, too.

Tsuzuru: Isn’t this quite a good one, too?  

Masumi: Is it?  

Tsuzuru: Yeah. I don’t know much about them myself, but I swear I saw the same one in a commercial recently.  

Masumi: Hmm…  

Tsuzuru: It looks like I just told him to go watch paint dry.  

Masumi: Even though I have it now, I doubt I’ll use it much.  

Sakuya: But it’d be a waste if you don’t. It looks like a good product and all…!  

Tsuzuru: I agree. Look, it even comes with a pencil.  

Masumi: Even if you say that, I can’t think of any use for it.  

Tsuzuru: In that case, why don’t you try using it for your studies at school? There’s plenty of folks using them during class, right?

Madoka: Good job today. How did it feel using the tablet? It looked like you were writing on a blackboard or something.  

Masumi: …Not great. I just started using it, so I’m honestly not sure what’s good about it.  

Madoka: I see. Then, maybe it would be better if you asked someone who’s familiar with using one. That way, you might understand how it can be useful.  

Masumi: …Good point. (I’ll try asking someone once I get home.)
