Robert Smirke divided them into 14 but they all blend into one another and I've heard theories about a 15th emerging. Unfortunately there's not much to be done besides trying to stay out of their way, although knowledge about them is helpful.
Smirke's 14 consist of the Eye, which is the fear of been watched, of people knowing your secrets, of needing to know something even if the knowledge destroys you. The Spiral which is the fear of madness, of you lying to yourself without knowing. The Stranger is similar to uncanny valley, of something being slightly off. The End is one of the simplest, the fear of death. Then there's the Lonely, the fear of isolation, whether or not it actually comes with physical separation. The Desolation is fairly similar, it's the fear of loss, of pain, of destruction that can't be bargained with as it's source is unthinking/cruel. Which bleeds into the Slaughter which is pure bloodshed, unpredictable although it can be calm, not just frenzied killing. The Vast encompasses the fear of falling, of open waters and deep ocean along with your own insignificance in the world, the other side of that coin is the Buried which is claustrophobia, the feeling of being crushed from all sides, although it's not always by dirt, you can be crushed by paperwork or responsibilities too. Up there with the End as some of the oldest fears is the Dark, which is rather self explanatory, fearing the darkness and what it holds. The Flesh is also fairly old, it's meat to put it simply, it's mainly made of the fear of animals, the billions of them in slaughter houses waiting to killed and those living in the wild's fear helps make up the Hunt, which I assume you can decipher what that entails. The Corruption is one of the uglier ones, it's infection, disease, parasites, decay, worms, your skin crawling from something beneath it, being riddled with holes. Although spider's aren't a part of it, they're part of the Web, which is the fear of being controlled without your knowledge, of being a unknowing puppet on something else's strings. Adelard Dekker also theorized about another fear emerging, which he called the Extinction, which is the fear of the apocalypse, of catastrophic change whether human caused or not.
Altogether they're a rather horrid bunch, I managed to go around forty years without being consumed or becoming an avatar, but I was marked by the Eye in that time and now in death I've probably been marked by the End. My main advice would be to stay wary and try not to cause fear on their behalf or feel fear about them, although it's fairly hard to stay neutral. Also either destroy or don't engage with any books with the name Leitner anywhere on them.
