Been a dog's age since I drew my tiny boy. So, here's a Flint I decided to draw! Something simple and quick but I think it came out well. Apologies for the unannounced hiatus. I'm not totally back yet, but if all goes as planned you'll be seeing more content here again.
Hey there the borrower Flint I read that comment on you switching to deviant art and was wondering if you already switched to deviant art. I read your posts and think that you are a great artist.
I have not made the switch over yet, something I'm still debating/procrastinating on. Rest assured though if I do make the account I'll put out a post about it. Always reassuring to know that people are interested in my stuff still, I've got big plans for Flint and Naomi's Story this year so stay tuned!
Hey when are you going to update your other blogs story?
( A multitude of things have been getting in my way, both excusable and not so excusable. Work’s been throwing added responsibility onto me to see if I can handle it, potentially seeing if I’m ready to move upwards. I’d spent most of October trying to catch up with INKtober sketches, all of which I really enjoyed doing despite not actually finishing. And as of now, well, pokemon. On top of all that to tell the truth, I’ve been feeling a little... I dunno, I guess down on myself? Somehow convinced myself no one actually cared about any of my blogs, personal or otherwise. So actually, I wanna say thanks for messaging me about this. I think it’ll really help me to get off my ass. I know I haven’t touched it in a while, but I do plan to keep Necessary Union going, as well as Flint and Naomi’s story that I still haven’t named somehow. For the moment though, I just ask you all be patient. Thank you! )
( And here have a version without the homemade snapchat filter! Again, glad to have drawn these two again! @tinysupervicki I hope I’m in time for the gthalloween pic! )

( Happy Halloween, all! Took me forever and a half, what with INKtober and all, but I finally got something done! I was debating what costume to put these two in for forever, like even since starting this little side blog of mine, but I think both of these are fairly appropriate outfits for them! It felt good getting to draw and write for these two again. Quick Halloween blurb under the “Read More”! Enjoy, and good night! )

“Ok you go ahead and get comfortable first...” Naomi adjusted the trap that hung around her carefully as Flint adjusted himself on her shoulder. Satisfied that her pack for her costume was in just the right position, she grinned down at her outfit. Last minute, sure, but thrown together just in time for a little Halloween picture with her tiny boyfriend. “You all ready dude?”
Flint was busy fiddling with his toga, trying to find a position both for him to sit comfortably, and for it to drape across her shoulder in a way that didn’t look strange. “Just one second more... I can’t believe Winston was able to make this so quickly. And with detail like this, too.” He marveled at the straps around his forearms and shins. Every bit of the outfit was accurate to the T, from the under shirt, to the way the toga folded around itself. “Might wear this around just for fun...”
“Good thing we don’t go out in public.” She teased him, ruffling his hair a bit with a finger.
He laughed at the gesture before shooing her hand away. With a sigh and a smile, he turned and gave her a little peck on the vast and soft cheek beside him. She may know how to tease him, but he certainly knew how to return the favor.
She blushed in turn from the kiss before taking a deep breath to calm herself. “Ok, ok, no more fooling around. We’ve got a pic to take.”
“And.... you’re sure this is safe?” A moment of uncertainty was apparent in Flint’s tone.
“Look, it’s the internet. People can fake anything, no one will actually think you’re real. Promise. But I want SOMEONE to see us in our costumes together, didn’t get em together for nothing.” She reasoned. Pulling her phone from her pocket, he held it away from the two of them before smiling wide. “Ok, get ready!”
Naomi threw up a peace sign right next to her 6 inch tall boyfriend on her shoulder as he held a hand up himself. The camera flashed and she pulled her phone back over, smiling with pride at how it had come out before showing it off to Flint. With a final word of approval, it was ready for posting.
I know it’s a little belated, but I’m gonna do INKtober this year I think. Going in order too, I’ll catch up. So for FAST, we’ve got our friend Flint dashing through the walls.

( I’ll fix the numbered part links later, but for not I wanted to get this out there now what it’s done! Introducing Naomi’s mother, Sandrah. I specifically wanted to try for a different body type with her, one that was a bit more full and round. I don’t think I entirely succeeded, but if I just keep doing the same thing forever I’ll never improve as an artist. On the subject of art though, I tried some very minor shading in this piece! I hope it helps bring a bit more detail to my pictures in a positive way, and I hope you all enjoy! Story under the “Read More”. Thanks for sticking with me ya’ll, piece. )

Flint kept a tight hold of the fabric beneath him, laying on his stomach as he watched the world whiz by. While a shoulder hug was pleasant and comfortable, a shoulder ride was more than unnerving. “Naomi, what's going on? W-Why do we need to leave?”
Naomi was in a full on panic, having taken off through her house the moment she caught sight of the message on her phone. With her favorite white and blue jacket in one hand, she used her free one to briefly lift him off of her shoulder. Still exercising the same careful movements she'd practiced so intently, she managed to slip the jacket on while still keeping a good hold of her new boyfriend. “My mom's on her way here, like right now. While I'd be more than happy to rub the fact that I've finally got a boyfriend in her face, there's a lot of questions that to be frank I don't feel like and don't want to answer in doing so.” She explained hastily.
“Y-Your mom?” He paused a moment, looking up from his new sitting position in her hand. She'd briefly mentioned that she and her parents had a civil, if strained relationship. That said, to elicit this sort of reaction... “Look I'm not keen on meeting new humans left and right or anything, but... if it's your mother-”
She cut him off by lifting him up and pecking his cheek quickly, causing him to stutter and go red. “Flint, it's nice of you to be brave, but we have been a couple for a grand total of...” Naomi took a quick glance at her phone as she walked through her home and towards the front door. “... four minutes. Maybe five. We probably still have questions that need answering, regardless of the ones she'll wind up asking.” She said. “I just wanna go out and drive around for a bit, let her show up and leave, I'll reschedule, and then we can put some proper time and thought into you meeting myMOM!” Naomi practically squeaked as she opened the front door, finding herself face to face with an older woman with a raised fist and a startled expression.
Naomi acted quickly, stuffing her phone in one jacket pocket and Flint into the other. She chided herself for the speed of the action. No doubt he was none too comfortable after being shoved into a pocket as quickly as she had. She'd have to remember to apologize for that later. For now though... “M-Mom, you're here!”
The older woman lowered her hand, putting it on her hip as she raised an eyebrow. “Did you really forget about our lunch plans? It looks like you were just headed out the door!” The older woman sported a heftier build than her daughter, though she wore it well with a rounder face and thicker proportions, in addition to being a few inches shorter than her. Her hair, while looking like it could have naturally been the same general style as Naomi's was cut much shorter, and sported a light brown color to it rather than the bright blond of her daughter. She wore a short sleeve, dark green shirt with wavy yellow trim, the article of clothing sporting an overall homemade feel to it. An olive sweater was wrapped around her waist, slightly covering her blue jeans. The most notable feature, and the one that most gave away the relationship between her and her daughter, were her violet eyes. Through age though, they possessed a dimmer color to them as well as noticeably tired and slightly wrinkled bags underneath her eyelids.
Naomi opened and closed her mouth for a moment as she tried to think of an excuse, quickly throwing on a smile. “N-No, I didn't forget! I was... I was on my way, hoping to catch you! To let you know I uh... w-wanted to have lunch here!” Here?! Why on Earth would she want her to have lunch here! Oh, wait, pocket boyfriend still currently in hand. Probably best not to risk taking him to a restaurant.
She smiled and crossed her arms. “My little girl is letting me into her house? Next you'll tell me you finally learned to clean your room.” She joked. Uncrossing her arms, she tilted her head slightly. “So do I get a hug, or not? It's been ages!”
Naomi was torn, on the one hand it really had been ages since she'd seen her mother in person, and a hug sounded perfect. In the other hand though, was Flint. Letting him slide out of her palm and into her pocket proper, she approached with the side that he wasn't in, accepting the hug while successfully keeping him from being squashed between the two. “Sorry Mom, just kinda scatter brained right now. Stuff on my mind, you know?” She said, pulling away after a few seconds to lead her mother inside.
The older woman grabbed her bag that sat beside her, humming in thought as she looked at her daughter's face. Following her into her home, she gasped before smiling wide. “Oh my god it's a guy.”
“W-What?!”
“There's a guy on your mind.” She spoke rather matter of fact, absolutely certain in her assumption. “I know my daughter and I know she doesn't get scatter brained. She gets mad, she gets excited, she gets tired, she gets drunk, but you're always well put together. Only one thing's ever gotten you off your rocker.” Stepping past her and into the next room, that being the kitchen, she arched a brow. “Why is there a lawn chair... in your kitchen?”
Naomi stood stock still in the entrance to her kitchen, uncertain of what to address first. With her mother interrogating her in addition to the uncomfortable shifting she could feel from Flint in her pocket, the poor girl was afraid her heart would pound out of her chest from sheer stress. “C-Come on Mom, there's no... I-I'm too busy with my books and-” Catching an unconvinced look from her mother, she sighed. “Ok, it's a guy... i-it's a boyfriend, actually.”
The older woman gasped. “What?! You haven't even mentioned you've been dating! Naomi, that's so exciting!”
She rubbed the back of her head. “It's... kind of a recent development.”
Naomi's mother grabbed the lawn chair and took a seat in front of the counter, clearly ready for a conversation. “Well tell me about him, what's he like? What's he look like? What's he do?”
Naomi wished she'd made it towards the counter first, maybe then she'd have been able to drop off Flint at the nearest door without her mother noticing. As it stood now, she was running out of ideas for getting him out of here. She wanted nothing more than to get the poor little guy away from the situation. “W-Well... he's athletic, messy silver hair, shorter than me.” She started giving a more simple explanation. These were exactly the kinds of questions she was afraid of having to answer on such short notice.
“Good, good. Silver hair, that's so... different. Do you know if he dyes it?” Snapping her fingers, she shook her head. “Know what? Why don't you give him a call! Have him come on over, I wanna meet this mysterious boyfriend.”
“I-I can't, he doesn't have a cellphone.” At least she hadn't lied yet about him. Maybe one day the two could meet, but right about now Naomi just wanted to check up on him, see if he was holding up well enough. Despite it sounding like he might've been ok with meeting her mother before, she could tell from his shifting form he was uncomfortable. On top of that, another sense came over her. A sort of nervousness that felt unfamiliar... was she feeling his shaken nerves? Maybe they really did have that borrower link he was talking about.
“In this day and age?” She laughed. “I appreciate the attempt at traditionalism but that just sounds silly.”
“Y-Yeah, it's a bit funny... Uh, hey lemme go and hang up my jacket, don't really need it in the house.” Naomi quickly started to make her way across the kitchen. “I'll be back down in a minute, just need to check something on my computer. Go ahead and help yourself to whatever I've got in the fridge.” Before really waiting for a response, she was off around the corner and making her way upstairs.
Her mother sat perplexed for a moment before shaking her head with a sigh and a smile. “This guy must be something special to have my Naomi like this... just hope he can take care of her.” Knowing where things were from the last time she'd visited, she got up to start fixing herself a drink.
Meanwhile, Naomi made it up to her bedroom. As quickly and carefully as she could, she pulled Flint out of her jacket pocket and into her cupped hands. “I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I should have gotten out the door sooner!” She started. As she spoke she started to look him over, attempting to see if she'd inadvertently hurt him in any way. “I-I could feel you, and how nervous you were, just like you said. I can't believe this is actually happening, I didn't hurt you did I?”
The poor borrower was completely turned around, going from staring at fabric to Naomi's hand, to open bedroom, to her panicked face. Being turned every which way despite the gentle hold on him wasn't helping much either. Gripping the nearest finger, he tried to focus his gaze on her through her concerned inspection. “Naomi, I-I'm fine, I'm ok!” Feeling the hands that held him relax ever so slightly, he relaxed his own grip and let himself drop into a lazy sitting position in her palms. “I'm ok... just kind of shaken. Doesn't help that I can feel you freaking out, too.” He said, letting free a deep sigh.
She flinched at the comment before taking a seat on her bed. Moving carefully, she set him down in her lap before taking her jacket off and tossing it onto the ground. With a sigh of her own she leaned back on her hands, getting a better view of him sitting on her thigh. “I'm sorry... this is just starting to go exactly how I didn't want to so far. I'm just glad I was able to hide you fast enough.” Pausing, she frowned in concern. “You're sure I didn't hurt you?”
He leaned back on his hands himself, trying to remain calm despite his position on her thigh. He tried not to think about it despite his blush. “I'm sure, Naomi. A stiff shoulder is the worst of it, promise.” Taking a deep breath, Flint shrugged. “I know you can tell how nervous I am, but I don't know... I still think it might be a good idea to get to know her... might make some questions easier to answer if the truth is out.” He paused himself this time. “I-I mean... unless you think she might go telling people?”
Naomi groaned, laying back on her bed and letting her arms flop out on either side of her. “I don't know, Flint. It's seriously been like, months since I last talked to my mom. She's cool and everything, high energy for her age, good attitude, I'm sure you two would hit it off... but she's one of those kinds of people that LOVES telling everyone she knows about news that gets her excited. Besides that, the last time I dated YEARS ago, she was all confident and high and mighty about how it would never work, and we'd just wind up as friends, and she wasn't right for me, and just... ugh she can be so cocky, especially when she winds up being right like ALL the time.” She let out a short huff before covering her face with her hands. “I'm just afraid she'll go all Mom on you or say something awful or... I don't know, I'm just afraid.”
He looked across the landscape that was her laid back midsection, thinking for a moment before deciding to move a bit closer to her. Sliding down from her lap, Flint made his way across the covers before taking a seat next to her face. “Naomi, I'm under six inches tall, so trust me I get what you mean about being afraid.” He started. He waited a moment, continuing when she pulled her hands away and turned to face him. “But I was afraid of you too. Even after you saved my life, I was afraid of you. And look where we are now. The first borrower/human couple.” He smiled as he spoke. “We're not gonna know unless we try, right? … Besides, I've heard other humans who used to live here tell stories. Even if she did go around trying to tell people about me, I bet no one would believe her.”
Naomi couldn't help smiling at him, sighing deeply before shifting her head and touching her lips to his face in a kiss. She held it for a second before pulling back. “Since when are you the one who has to offer me comforting words?” She asked. Turning to look up at the ceiling, she thought for a moment before nodding. “Alright, alright, we'll tell her... after this visit though. We should spend some time thinking a little. Contingency plans, you know?”
“I'm a borrower. Backup plans are my thing.” He spoke with a laugh, face still beet red from the surprise kiss. That would take a lot of getting used to now that they were a couple, he could hardly handle a brief peck let alone something like that. “Wanna drop me off at the hall door before you head back down? I could hang out in the kitchen wall and just wait for her to go.” He stood up as he made his suggestion, waiting to be picked up.
“Nah, let's just lay like this forever and never do anything again. I think that sounds nicer.” She joked, shifting onto her side to scoop her hand behind him before moving to sit upright. “So I'll drop you off out in the hall, Mom and I'll have our lunch here, and once she's gone you and I can talk about how to properly introduce you. That's the plan?”
“That's the plan.” Flint nodded in agreement. “And if things don't work out, you can just move in with me.” He smiled up at her, hoping his shot at comedy would alleviate some of the stress he could still feel.
She laughed, shaking her head. “Didn't I already ya little dork?” Naomi turned towards her bedroom door. She could almost feel her heart jump out of her throat as for the second time today she found herself looking right at her mother. This time though the older woman wasn't looking at her daughter, she had her eyes locked on the little borrower out in the open that sat in Naomi's hand. “M-Mom...”
Flint stood up as he felt the hand beneath him move closer to Naomi, turning to face the woman with wide and cautious eyes as he backed up against Naomi's stomach behind him. So maybe he wasn't quite as bold as he'd sounded a few seconds ago.
With a drink in one hand, Naomi's mother's mouth hung open as she looked down at the small being. “Naomi... what... what is-”
Naomi held her free hand up quickly. “Mom, don't freak out. Just listen for a second, ok?”
“Is it a toy?” She asked, taking a curious step forward to try to get a closer look at him. “Or... some kind of new age pet? Or-”
“No! No, god no, he's not a pet! Not at all!” Naomi was quick to nip that one in the bud as soon as she heard it, speaking firmly and with maybe a bit more volume than she intended. She also took a step back to match her mother's step forward. Looking down at him, she swallowed a lump in her throat before lifting the hand he was in, cupping her other beneath him for added support. “Mom, listen to me. This is Flint. He's a person called a borrower. He's got silver hair, he's athletic, and he's... a lot shorter than me.” She looked down at him, making sure he was doing ok through their impromptu introduction.
As she'd started the introduction proper, her mother had taken another step forward, leaning down slightly. She was still intent on getting a proper look at this thing in her daughter's hands. This person. This 'borrower'.
He couldn't help leaning away from the wide, aged eyes that scanned him so thoroughly. Still, their introduction was his idea, so he put on a smile. Waving a nervous hand, he cleared his throat. “H-Hello... ma'am... g-good to meet you.” The voice he spoke with was small and shaky. Had she not gasped and stood back upright in reaction, he'd have wondered if she'd even heard him.
“Oh my god it spoke!” She put her free hand to her heart, before looking to her daughter for clarification. “... Is this for real? This isn't some kind of technology that I haven't heard of? I-I mean, that's really a person?” Looking up at Naomi, she missed the awkward and hurt expression on the borrower's face.
That same protective nature that first reared it's head back when he'd been in the jaws of that cat sparked anew within Naomi. Her nervousness rather rapidly started to wash away, giving way to a determined expression. “He, Mom, is a person. Like I said, his name is Flint.” Eyes locked with her mother's, she made certain she was being listened to. “And he's my new boyfriend.”
“I-I... um...” While the older woman was normally the type of person to have a clever response for any situation, this time she found herself dumbfounded. Understandably so of course, this was like nothing she'd ever seen or heard of before. Thinking for a moment, she turned towards the hall slightly. “Could we... um, all go downstairs? To talk? I...” She seemed like there was more she wanted to say, though she also had a look about her like she'd stumble over any moment. Instead she opted to head into the hall and for the stairs. She needed to get a seat on the couch.
Watching her go, Naomi huffed. “... I'll make sure she doesn't get the wrong idea about you.” She said firmly, looking down at him. “You... existing... is kind of a lot to take in. It was for me. I'll make sure though.”
He practically collapsed into a sitting position in her hands, letting out a breath he hadn't realized he had been holding until now as he looked up at her. “Thanks, Naomi... I'll try to speak up more, too. She seems... confused.” He spoke with a nervous groan to punctuate his sentence, running his hand through his hair as he stared at where she'd been.
Naomi held him close, intent on protecting her borrower boyfriend, both physically and verbally. She took her time making her way downstairs, dreading all of the ways this conversation could go south. She just wanted to do like she said before, lay in bed, never do anything again, just relax and be happy. But no, this was the real world, and she had a real problem that needed dealing with. She finally arrived in the living room, spotting her mother sitting in her arm chair. “Hey Mom.”
“Naomi!” The woman had clearly been deep in thought, nearly spilling her drink as she reacted to her daughter's entrance. Her gaze didn't remain on her for long though, quickly finding and locking on Flint.
Naomi sighed before making her way to the couch, sitting on the side closest to her mother. With a steady hand she set Flint down on the end table that sat between the two. Looking down at him, she made a gesture with her eyes, telling him to go on. If her mother was really skeptical about his humanity then he needed to be the one to speak on his behalf, not her.
Clearly nervous, he stayed as close to Naomi as he could on the table. “Um... h-hello, ma'am. My name is Flint, it's... good to meet you.” He spoke carefully and through a forced smile, worried he might startle her just by saying something.
“I'm Sandrah... It's, um... good to meet you, too.” She spoke with uncertainty before looking up at Naomi. “What is i-... he? What is he?”
She huffed in response, making a gesture towards him. “Ask him, not me.”
The older woman looked around the room for a moment, as if expecting to find out she was being punked the whole time. Seeing no evidence of a prank, she looked back down at him. “What... are you?”
The tone she asked with sent an uncomfortable chill down his spine, as though she was absolutely certain he couldn't be a living thing. Standing up straight though, he took a deep breath to try to calm his nerves. “Well, ma'am, I'm what's called a borrower. We're uh, little people. We live in walls, or in forests away from humans, and we survive by borrowing things that humans won't need or miss. Chips and crackers, water, electricity, I got caught taking a paper clip when I met Naomi.” He said, listing off a few examples. “Though, after some talk, I think... what we call borrowing and what you call borrowing are two different things.”
“It sounds more like stealing to me.” She spoke with disapproval, a small frown on her face. “... How long have you been stealing from Naomi?”
He flinched at the accusation. “I... It was about two years before she found me.”
She looked taken aback, looking up at her daughter. “How were you getting stolen from for two years without knowing it?!” She asked, her voice raised. Again, paying no heed to the smaller being, she hadn't noticed him flinch further from the volume of her voice.
Naomi was still on the defensive, shifting a hand so that it rested closer to him. “First of all Mom, keep your voice down. I shouldn't have to remind an adult to speak with an inside voice.” She spoke with a serious tone, hoping to establish that she was the one in charge here. It may have been her mother she spoke to, but it was her house. “Secondly, he said so himself, they only take things we don't notice or miss. Not only am I not going to realize I've got one less cracker in the box, but I'm certainly not going to be mad about it. Especially considering how much one cracker probably does for him.” She explained. “Besides, he was here first.”
Again she looked skeptical, about to ask for clarification before realizing her daughter would probably just defer her to the tiny being between them again. “You're saying you owned this house?”
Flint shook his head. “Well, no... I mean, kind of... Naomi explained deeds and legal ownership... sort of, I don't really get how a paper determines that, but... I've lived here my whole life. I've seen two whole other families before Naomi lived here.”
Sandrah drummed her fingers against the arm rest of her chair as she thought. As much as, obviously Naomi had legal ownership, she couldn't argue that there was something to be said for him having lived here a good decade before Naomi did. “Well, are you still stealing from her? Or have you returned the things you stole?”
He couldn't bring himself to look up at her anymore. The way she spoke to him and the look she as giving him made him feel somehow so much smaller than he already was. “No, and... no. Naomi's started sharing things with me so I don't have to go and take them, and-”
“And he hasn't returned anything because he doesn't need to.” As much as she wanted him to speak up for himself, it was somewhat clear that her mother was being stubborn about the situation. “I told him he could keep whatever it was he had and was using... hell if anything we need to get him an upgrade, guy sleeps on a sponge.”
Flint rubbed his arm. “It's not that uncomfortable...”
The older woman pinched the bridge of her nose with a sigh, remaining silent for a moment. “So... how long have you two actually known each other then?”
“A month.”
“A month?!” She brought her hand down on her armrest, again raising her voice. “Naomi I don't give my last name to people I've known for a month, much less date them!”
Naomi frowned right back at her. “Hey, that's great. I'm not you though, and you don't know anything about us.”
“I know he's a thief!”
“By necessity! The world isn't designed for him!”
“So what you're just going to take care of him, and feed him, like some kind of-”
“If you say pet this conversation is over, and you're leaving my house.” Naomi's expression went dark, showing her mother that she wasn't playing games.
Her mouth closed as her daughter cut her off, huffing a couple of times as she gauged just how serious her daughter was.
Flint of course was more than frightened by how the conversation was going, looking like he was about ready to hide behind the couch's arm rest. He couldn't do that though, they needed to talk this through, to make her see. “Um, ma'am, w-with all due respect-”
“I'm not speaking to you.” She flicked her gaze down at him and cut him off.
He jumped back from the response before thinking for a moment. Something seemed to click in his head. Over a month ago, even despite his fear, he'd have never taken this kind of treatment. As much as he enjoyed Naomi's company, and the way he didn't need to borrower anymore, and getting rides around the house... maybe he had gone soft. He talked back to Naomi when they first spoke, so... “Well... well you should be.” He countered back, fists clenched as he looked up at her, mustering his determination.
She had already switched her gaze back to her daughter when she heard him speak up again, looking down in disbelief. “Excuse me?”
“You should be speaking to me! This... this isn't just Naomi's decision, it's mine too!” He told her. “I'm a part of this conversation too, I'm a person.”
“Barely.” She scoffed, about ready to retort.
That flipped a switch in his head, the little borrower taking a bold step forward. “And why do you get to decide that? I'm a living breathing person. I have to eat, I have to sleep, I have to move. I talk to Naomi every day, we tell jokes, we talk about each other's lives and cultures, we watch shows, we've gone clothes shopping.” He started rattling things off, each time moving just a bit closer to her. “When I first met Naomi I was afraid of her, but she showed she was kind. She was gentle. She was caring. She literally saved my life! I may not have grown up with parents, but I always assumed a person grew up into what they are because of being raised by good parents. I thought that Naomi must have had the most caring, and thoughtful parents for her to wind up as the person I know, but I can see pretty clearly that that was NOT the case!”
She remained silent throughout his brief rant, absolutely dumbstruck. Naomi found herself in much the same position, sitting in silent panic as she realized how much further away he was. Sandrah meanwhile was looking right down at him, neither the woman nor the borrower willing to back down or break eye contact. Finally she made a move, slowly sitting back in the armchair as she sighed. Something about her gaze changed as it shifted, keeping both the borrower and her daughter in sight. “... Go on.”
“Are you telling me to leave?” Flint challenged, his blood boiling now as he dared to take a step closer. This time though he found a hand blocking his path, looking back and catching the fearful look on Naomi's face. On top of that, he started to feel her worry too as his head cleared some.
“No, I'm not telling you to leave. The both of you, go on. Tell me about... this whole thing.” She said, keeping her voice low and serious. “I'm listening.”
Naomi took a deep breath to calm herself as she scooped up her smaller boyfriend and set him down again on the arm rest next to her. She needed to keep him close after that whole exchange. She hardly knew he had it in him. “Ok... So about a month ago, maybe a little more, I was about to head out to grab some groceries when I realized I'd left my phone in the basement. When I went back down to grab it, I heard music paying from it... and there he was.” Naomi got started, planning on telling her the whole story.
…
…
…
The story concluded after about an hour of explanation. Questions were asked and answered, and the mood started to relax a little bit as things progressed. Finally the older woman was up to date. “So... you two are sure about this? Being... together?”
They both nodded, Flint speaking up first. “It's like we told each other. We know that I can't take her out to eat, or go shopping with her, or even hold her hand proper, but... we know what we feel.”
“And we're willing to try to make it work.” As Naomi spoke, she was idly running her thumb up and down his arm in a loving gesture as her hand sat beside him.
Sandrah nodded at the two, thinking hard for a moment before standing up. “Well... then I suppose there's nothing I can do but offer my support.”
Naomi looked up at her in surprise. As much as their conversation was turning more and more positive, she hadn't expected to convince her so quickly, if at all. “Wait, really?”
She arched a brow down at her. “If I said no, would you change your mind?” Getting a determined shake of the head, she smiled. “That's what I figured. I don't completely get it yet, and something tells me a google search on borrowers isn't going to yield much of a result, so how else am I going to understand this whole thing if I don't support you two?”
Naomi scooped him into her hand before standing up, offering her mother a smile. “Thank you, Mom. I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier, I just... I don't wanna see him get hurt, you know?”
“I'm sorry for shouting at you too.” Flint spoke up, rubbing the back of his head.
Sandrah looked down and pointed a finger at him. “Don't you dare apologize for that. Someone like you needs to be able to speak up for and act for himself. You know how many people have yelled at me? One. And I married the bastard.” She spoke with a laugh before taking a breath. “If you've got the guts to snap back at me, then you've got the medal to keep up with my little girl.” Slinging her bag over her shoulder, she started for the front door before pointing back at the two. “I've got someplace to be, but you two owe me a lunch date still, alright?”
Naomi smiled and nodded. “O-Of course! We'll schedule something else!”
Standing in the door for a moment, she looked the two over. “I'll talk to the both of you later... good luck.” With that, she shut the door behind her. The woman ran a hand through her hair as she approached her car before shaking her head. “That... was not how I expected this day to go.”
Back inside, the two kept up their smile as she left, though both visibly sighed and slumped a bit once the door was shut. Naomi sighed and let her free arm drop to her side, while Flint let himself fall onto his back in her palm. Looking up at her, he offered a smile. “Told you it'd turn out ok.”
She looked down at him with an unamused expression for a moment before bringing her free hand up and giving him the lightest flick she could manage against his head. She then followed up with a kiss on the same spot. “You ever scare me like that again and I'm keeping you in my jacket pocket for like a week to make sure you don't do anything stupid.” Stretching her free arm, she started for the stairs. “How's a nap sound after that whole thing?”
“A nap sounds amazing.” He said simply, looking up at her from his laying position as she walked. Not the smoothest way things could have gone, but at least things were ultimately alright in the end.
( I’m working on Part 11. I’m sorry for the radio silence. Don’t really have anything clever to say beyond that. Been working on irl things, got a new game, and been suffering from some mild creative block. Pic’s coming along swiftly for part 11 though and I’m mostly sure of what’s supposed to happen when I write it up. I’ll have it up soon enough for you guys. Thank you all for sticking with me for so long. )
( No new story, but I got an idea for a cute pic, and threw together a little story blurb for you guys. Consider this like an unofficial part 11.5 I suppose. Still working on story, but I’m working on fleshing out stuff for the new blog too. http://canid-princess-knight.tumblr.com/ Anyway, hope ya’ll like it, I’m off to draw pokemon fanart. )
Naomi laid back on the couch, moving carefully and slowly before finally getting comfortable. Keeping her hand pressed lightly to her stomach, she let out a deep sigh of content as she leaned her head forward. “Comfy?”
Flint looked up at her from his position beneath her hand, a smile on his face. He wasn’t sure how ‘normal’ this all was, but he also didn’t much care. Feeling Naomi so close and practically surrounding him, making up his whole world, it was relaxing. “Yeah, comfy.”
“Good. Think we could both use a nap... Lemme know if you need something, ‘kay?” She marveled at her new miniature boyfriend, ever so gently running a finger along his back as she cupped him close. Holding onto him like this, knowing he was safe and happy thanks to her, it brought a warmth to her that she loved.
“Got it.” Flint took a deep breath, a shiver running along his spine at the feeling of the massive digit running along his back. Resting his head down against his gargantuan girlfriend’s stomach, he shut his eyes and let himself start to drift. The gentle whooshing of air as she breathed coupled with the slight rise and fall he felt had him out like a light within minutes.

Naomi sat cross legged on the floor between her coffee table and couch. Hands on her knees, she remained silent as she concentrated rather intently on her lap instead of the borrower that sat in front of her. He seemed to be doing a rather wonderful impression of her with his hands on his own knees as he sat and stared at anything that wasn't her. After what seemed like ages of silence, one of them made a sound as Naomi took a deep breath. She finally willed herself to look up at him, confusion and bewilderment muddling with the uncertainty on her face. “So... um... S-Sorry for just kind of... grabbing you there.”
“N-No no!” Flint was quick to look up in response, waving his hands in front of him. “Don't... don't be sorry, I uh... I wasn't exactly upset by it.” He was almost annoyed at the heat he could feel building in his cheeks. Was it really becoming this easy to get flustered around her? “I just... I don't know why... I had this dream-”
“Yeah, same.” Naomi responded fairly quickly, rubbing the back of her head and looking away again. “It was crazy, too. You'll probably think I'm stupid for freaking out when I woke up when you hear it.”
He shook his head. “I'm pretty sure I've got you beat in that regard.”
She arched a brow and brought her gaze back up to her silver haired friend. “You had a funky dream too?”
Flint nodded this time. He seemed hesitant for a moment to elaborate before sighing in what sounded like defeat after a mental argument with himself. “I'd... woken up on the couch, but not like we did just now.” He started. Too distracted in trying to recall the dream proper, he didn't catch the look in her eye as she seemed to listen much more intently at how he started. “I was... actually human sized. And uh... you were there too, and-”
“And I was borrower sized?” She cut him off. Naomi couldn't hold back a look of almost fear in reaction to his description. “... Flint that was my dream last night.”
He looked taken aback, arching a brow for a moment. “Did I try to grab you?”
“And I freaked out, because your hand was massive.”
“And I fell off the couch trying not to drop or hurt you.”
“Then we had lunch.”
“You taught me how to make mot... motza-”
“Mozzarella sticks.” She finished for him, now leaning closer in fascination as they continued. “Then we went to check out the rest of the house.”
“And my borrower tunnels!”
“I got to see your room, which was RIGHT next to mine!”
“And then...” He trailed off, remembering why he'd woken up so abruptly. “... you fell.”
She gripped the edge of the table, her chin now resting between her hands right in front of him as she recalled. “It was so... so vivid. I thought all of that stuff was really happening. I thought I'd... that you wouldn't...”
“I was terrified, I can't imagine what you were feeling.” He looked up at her in sympathy. For someone like a human, always on top, to feel such a lack in control and size and to take a fall like that. “But we definitely had the same dream then.”
She nodded. “To the 'T' it sounds like...” After a second's thought, Naomi couldn't help laughing lightly. “It's funny, we spent half that dream trying to figure out how that whole thing happened... and now we're awake, in the real world, and we're still asking the same kinda question.” She sighed, smiling apologetically as she watched her breath ruffle his hair somewhat. “You know, nothing's really seemed completely normal since I met you.” She smiled wider, more genuinely. “I kinda like that.”
He blushed at the complement, though remained silent as he thought for a moment. “You know... I think I might actually know how we shared that dream.”
Her smile faded, replaced with surprise. “Wait, really? Do borrowers excel in dream theory or something?” She asked, caught off guard.
“I mean, some might?” Flint shrugged, not really catching the mild quip. “But no, you see borrowers have this kind of link that we share, usually within small communities or families. No one's really sure how it came about, but the most commonly accepted theory is that it developed in response to give us a small leg up in the world.” He started, shifting his sitting position to sit back, one hand on his chin as he thought. “It's kind of a heightened sense of empathy. Say a mother was out gathering supplies in the back yard, and her son or spouse back inside the house was in trouble. She'd probably feel it right away and head back inside to try to help. I've heard stories that it's appeared in other ways too though, like sharing a thought or... even a dream.”
Naomi had gone completely quiet. Her eyes were wide as she listened intently, clearly excited to hear more about borrower society. “No way... man you guys are almost straight up magical.”
“I-It's completely unheard of for a borrower and a human though to... to be close enough to share a link like that.” The little borrower couldn't help rocking back and forth a bit.
“Well, to be fair, from what I gathered you and I being friends in the first place is pretty unheard of.” She countered. Watching him rock uncomfortably though, she couldn't help arching a brow as she lifted her head. “... Do two borrowers really have to be that close for this... link thing?”
He nodded. “It's usually shared exclusively between family and, um...” He cut himself off for a moment. “... b-borrowers in a relationship.” Despite his best efforts to rather intently study the grooves in the wooden coffee table, he brought his gaze up just enough to try to gauge her reaction.
For once one of them blushed with the other catching it, Naomi's cheeks going red at the explanation. She looked down at the table instead of him as well for a moment, clearly deep in thought. Again, neither said a word for nearly a solid minute before Naomi silently brought her hand up beside him. Palm facing up, she looked to him, clearly asking him to climb aboard.
He hardly gave the action an extra moment's thought, standing up from his sitting position on the table just enough to climb into her hand. Getting comfortable in the middle of her palm like he had grown used to, he looked to her in the hopes of an explanation.
She curled her fingers around him for a moment before lifting him away from the table. Bringing her other hand beneath the one that held him, she took a deep breath as she started to lower him. “Flint... I'm gonna try something. Just... tell me if it's not ok.” It was clear whatever she wanted to say wasn't coming about easily. It was also clear she realized this, opting to act rather than fumble over her words. Before she had much time to over think, she brought the borrower in her hands closer to herself and pressed him lightly against her stomach in the closest approximation to a hug that she could offer. Feeling him held so closely to her, she couldn't quite stop a shiver from running through her body. She liked this. It felt nice. It felt right. She was certain he would protest any second now and push away. He'd tell her that that wasn't ok, and that he didn't like being restrained like that, or held like that, or that she was being too weird. She wanted to be selfish though, if only for the briefest of moments. She just wanted to act of these stupid feelings she was suppressing. Just once. Feeling that small form that she was so accustomed to holding pressed up against her stomach, even as lightly as he was, made her sigh deeply. No doubt an action he felt rather well given his position.
Initially he wasn't sure what to expect, though he wasn't worried. By this point Flint knew her. He trusted her, and whatever she had in mind he was sure it wouldn't be dangerous at the very least. Seeing her massive form grow larger as his vantage point lowered though, he couldn't help feeling just a touch nervous. It was when her form started to grow closer though that he actually started to shiver. He'd said in the dream that he was afraid of humans, but not her. For the most part that was true. But he still had his upbringings. The stories. The warnings. The basic programming of a borrower. Seeing something as massive as a full grown human torso approaching with no control on his part started to flip switches in his head that he'd thought he'd successfully dealt with. He resisted though, allowing Naomi to go through with whatever she had planned as she he shut his eyes tight. He wasn't sure what he felt at first. Initially the mild feeling of constriction was worrying. Soon though the was aware of the soft fabric. The comfortable heat from all sides. The sound of muffled, rushing wind against the side of his head. Opening his eyes, while his view of her was incredibly obscured from his position, he finally registered what was happening. A hug. She'd brought him in for a hug. Again his initial urge was to protest, but for different reasons altogether. He quickly realized he was enjoying what was happening. Where he was. He liked feeling her all around him like he was. Her form encompassed him, taking up his whole world. The same gentle hands he'd grown to trust on one side, and a comfortable and plush warmth on the other told him that he was as close to her at this moment that he could possibly be. And that terrified him. He told himself not to act on his emotions, that they were ill-founded, that they were an impossibility.
And yet here he was, Naomi making the first move and hugging him close. It took a moment, but soon he shut his eyes again and brought his arms up. Obviously he knew at his size that he'd have trouble hugging her hand, let alone her entire form. But that didn't mean he wouldn't at least try to return the gesture. Pressing his arms against her stomach with as much force as he could muster to return the hug, he was met with a gasp in surprise that lurched the surface he was against.
She opened her own eyes as she felt his tiny arms press into her. She stared wide eyed at the open air in front of her as she processed what she was feeling now. Initially she thought it was the push away that she was fully expecting before she really thought about it. He wasn't struggling, he wasn't pushing away from her... he was pressing against her. He was trying to hug her back. Putting forward the same gentleness and care that she'd developed when holding him, she pressed him against her just a little bit tighter for a moment longer before pulling her hands away. Lifting him up to her face, she simply stared at him in silence for a moment.
Flint looked up at her as well, now more laying back in her cupped hands rather than sitting in her palm. Thinking back to the end of their dream, he took a breath before speaking. “Naomi... you looked like you were going to say something before... before our dream ended.” He paused. “... What was it?”
A look of determination came across her face, muddled with the apprehension that was also fighting for control. She had to tell him, now. She'd practically been given the go ahead straight from him now. Whatever happened happened. “Flint. I've known you for about a month now. I don't know about borrower culture, but for humans some people think that's not enough time to know someone.” She started, sighing. “But I feel like I know you so well already, and still have so much to learn about you, and your culture. I know you like the music I listen to. I know you like learning about human stuff. I know you like trying new things. I know you like climbing and jumping around and being active. I know you... you have this cute smile... when I crack a joke.” No turning back now. “I know that... that ever since I saw you in that suit we got you, I've realized that... for someone big enough to fit in my hand, you're pretty damn handsome.” Seeing that same smile she talked about appear, she knew she was on the right track. “I know you wouldn't be able to drive me to a nice dinner, or buy me things, or even just... hold my hand, really.” As she spoke, she maneuvered her thumb beneath one of his hands so that it sat on top of the digit. “And I don't really think I care. I like you, like a whole helluva lot. So... I guess I have something else to ask about borrower culture.” She lifted him up a bit higher and closer to her face, offering a nervous smile. “Do borrowers ever date? And... would they ever date a human?”
He was left speechless throughout the confession, only cracking a smile at her pun briefly as he tried to properly process everything he was hearing. Without really thinking, as he felt her thumb worm itself underneath his hand, he gripped the digit tightly as if to replicate holding her hand tight. He felt the wind rush by as he was lifted a bit higher up. The two were in such close proximity now that as she asked her last two questions, he felt her breath wash over him. He could almost feel the nervous quiver in her voice, and he could see his reflection in her eyes that clearly wanted to look away but refused to. Those big, beautiful violet eyes. Heart threatening to pound out of his chest, he cleared his throat as he attempted to speak properly. “W-Well... borrowers do date, yes... b-but I don't think one would ever date a human.” He scanned her face for a moment before realizing just how close he was being held. Deciding to take a page from her book, he decided not to give himself any time to think. Getting to his feet, his intent was to lean close to her first. In his haste he wound up losing his balance. Throwing his hands up, he pressed them against her cheeks to catch himself as his face landed squarely against her lips. While it wasn't quite the action he was going for, he decided to make the best of it, pressing his own lips against her lower lip for a moment before lifting his head up to look her in the eye. His hands still supporting him against her cheeks, he smiled. “But I think I'd like to.”
She did her damnedest to remain stock still to keep him from falling and getting hurt, even as she felt him press against her lips. While she was surprised and more than caught off guard, she was hardly against the action, puckering her lips ever so slightly for the surprise kiss just before he pulled away to finish his statement. She shifted her hands so that he could stand without leaning against her face, not quite able to fight off a small buildup of tears in her eyes as she let loose a small laugh. Finally she burst out into full laughter as tears started to fall freely down her cheeks. “Have we... have we really both been keeping this bottled up? We could have been over all of these stupid feelings days ago?” She asked with a disbelieving laugh in her voice.
He was following her cue, tears of joy and laughter falling down his own cheeks and into her palm as he nodded. “I-I really did think you looked amazing in that dress of yours.”
She smiled wide and leaned forward, ever so gently touching her forehead against his, ignoring the feeling of her bangs falling over top of him as she did so. She just wanted to feel close to him again without pulling him away from her face, and she didn't much feel like crying all over him by pressing him against her cheek. “Why are we so stupid? We could have gotten all this crap over with already!”
“I know right? What's wrong with us.” He agreed with a laugh of his own, leaning his own forehead against her's.
She finally pulled away for a moment to look at him, only to immediately bring him close again to press him against her shoulder in another hug, daring to squeeze her new tiny boyfriend just a bit more tightly than before.
He hardly cared, gripping the fabric of her shirt to pull himself as close to her as he could. It felt amazing, finally being able to let free these emotions that were boiling and bubbling just below the surface and causing him so much stress. By the sounds of it, she'd been going through the same thing. He almost couldn't believe it, she didn't care about his size. She didn't care that he wasn't human. She just wanted to be with him like he wanted to be with her. He kept himself pulled close to her as the tears stopped flowing, simply replaced with deep breathing as he leaned his cheek against her shoulder.
The two remained still as Naomi leaned back against the couch behind her, simply enjoying the moment. Neither expected the other would have reciprocated their own feelings, yet the first human borrower couple now sat sharing their third hug together and their first as a couple. After what seemed like an eternity that she didn't want to end, Naomi took a deep breath as she opened her eyes. Still keeping him hugged close against her with one hand, she used her other to reach out for her phone. She'd simply intended to check the time since it had gotten away from them thanks to their binge watching and their extended shared dream time, uncertain what time of the day it was.
Her eyes widened though as the screen on her phone flickered on. A lone message was displayed, having been sent hours ago while they slept.
[Don't know if you forgot about our lunch today but I'm on my way now Naomi I'll see you] [soon love you]
