We talk a lot about how Peeta made Katniss look better to Panem with the love story but sometimes I think about how Katniss may have softened his image too. While much of it was for Katniss, this was still a strong boy who scored an 8—a Career-level score—in his showcase, joined the most powerful alliance in the Games, and lied to their faces the entire time. He did to them what Katniss was scared he would do to her. Peeta’s charming so I’m sure he never had a likability problem but just like he made Katniss more human, she did the same for him. The way he muttered Katniss’s name in his sleep, the joking and banter he shared with her, how sincerely he protected her. All of that showed a Peeta who isn’t plotting and is actually soft.

Katniss got shot, knocked out, drugged up and had dreams of searching for Peeta and following his scent and cuddling with him even after she experienced the violent “evil mutt version” of him. She made out with a pearl because she missed kissing him. She comforted herself in the murder arena by falling asleep fantasizing about his babies. She canonically states that she held off from ending her own life after the war because she felt like she was “waiting for something”—for him to come home, because the moment he arrived back in 12 she was motivated to take a shower and leave her depression hole for the first time in months. And you think she just settled for him because she couldn’t get over Gale’s association with the bombings?

while i’m also being negative i gotta just say, i really, really, really dislike the fact that for the prequels they’re gonna cast burdock and asterid around the random background actors from the original films. imo katniss’ mom in the trilogy is the reason i used to dislike the character. i just don’t like her. she has a weird, whispery voice and she doesn’t even really fit the character’s description and she makes weird faces and i know it’s not her fault that the films actually took every moment katniss’ mother did something right in the books and gave it to prim but she definitely did nothing to help matters. and then they have some weird stock photo dude as katniss’ dad for that one scene in the first film and i’m sure they’re gonna cast a kid who looks like him and it’s just terrible 😞. i know literally no one but me cares about this but it’s terrible to me.
