          “I know you probably don’t trust me, but I didn’t lie during our vows. I love her with all my heart and I promise I will take good care of her. You can be sure of it.”

          There was a young lady he had noticed before dancing with lady Madelinde. They both seemed to be very carefree and enjoying the celebrations. But when he saw the young lady again, they were now dancing on their own, and they were quite good at it. Except for when it came to twirling - they did it gracefully, yet as they were doing so they were getting closer to the table Aidan was sitting at. A little bit more and they’d bump into the table. Aidan quickly shot up from his seat and caught the lady, one arm wrapped around their waist for support. “Oh, careful!” he said with a smile as he was looking down at them to make sure it was safe to let them stand on their own. “You are one hell of a dancer, I must say.”

          There was a face he hadn’t seen before, it might be someone Elise knew or it could be a guest from the other wedding, he had no clue, but the lady seem to be a little lonely. Even though the hosts were the royal family, Aidan felt like he should take care of the guests at least a little bit, so their night would be pleasant. “Good evening, my lady,” he greeted her with a polite nod and a warm smile. “Are you enjoying the celebration?”

          “I am so glad to see you here,” he smiled, radiating pure joy and happiness. Aidan would normally go for a hug, but knowing now how Genya’s powers had increased, Aidan stayed where he was - a good step away from her not to overwhelm his sister. “Sorry for being so nosey, but I saw you come here with someone. A lady,” he said looking at her. He felt strange to ask directly, not wanting to accidentally offend her. “That’s a... friend?” he asked curious, but also cutious.

          “I hope this is not too overwhelming or awkward for you,” he said when he finally wasn’t glued to Elise’s hip and could have a moment to talk to people. “I am glad you came,” Aidan smiled being truly happy to see him here. “If it gets too much or too boring, you’re free to leave, I’m not holding you here.” A soft laugh escaped his lips.

          When he noticed Aleksei among the people, he felt relieved, and he walked up to him right away. He pulled his brother’s smaller frame into a tight hug. “I’m so glad you came,” he confessed in a low voice. “Thank you,” Aidan let go of him and took a step back. “I hope you didn’t come alone,” he said with a smile, one brow slightly tilted in question. Aleksei never spoke of his love life, but when Aidan spoke about his feelings for Elise, he could see Aleksei’s eyes change, as if there was someone his heart yearned for.

          He couldn’t sleep the previous night, for some reason he felt nervous since he woke up (Aidan was sure nothing bad would happen, he wouldn’t allow it to happen), but he couldn’t sit still, not even for one moment. But most of all he felt like he was floating through the day, almost as if he was high - high on love and life, and that feeling accompanied him throughout the day. He couldn’t stop smiling or looking away from Elise, she looked as gorgeous as ever, and she was his. His wife. For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death would do them part. He watched her from the other side of the room, she was talking to one of their guests, but as they walked away, Aidan took that moment to steal Elise away from the next guests, who would want to talk to her. “My gorgeous wife,” he purred in her ear, placing his hands on her hips and slowly guiding her to the middle of the dance floor to the rhythm of the music. “I will never get sick of calling you my wife,” his lips curved in a wide smile as his arms wrapped around her waist, him still moving to the music. “Have I told you today how much I love you?” A small laugh escaped his lips. Of course he had done it already. Multiple times. “Don’t tell Princess Mina, but you are the most stunning, most gorgeous and beautiful bride I have ever seen,” he whispered in her ear and placed a small, quick kiss on her neck right below it.

          Something was bothering Aleksei, he knew his brother and he could sense it very well. It felt like they were back home again when Aidan came home from yet another assassination job, it was as if Aleksei hated him again. The progress they had made while in the capital city seemed to be lost, and he hated it. Especially now that he was about to marry, he wanted his family there so he could share his joy with them. It wouldn’t feel right having Aleksei hating his guts. Aidan gave him some space and time, but nothing had changed. So he knocked on his door. Once it was open, Aidan put his hand on the door so Aleksei wouldn’t be able to shut it in his face. “Please hear me out, just for a moment,” he pleaded. “I don’t know what I did to earn your dislike, whatever it is, I am very sorry and I hope you can forgive me. Or at least we could have a truce until the end of the wedding, I would really appreciate it.”

          “Can’t say I know her well, but I have seen Aleksei with her a lot and I have talked to her a little. A nice young lady. It felt like there is something weighing on her though. But it must have been just the fact that she had suddenly gained powers, just like I had suddenly lost them at that time.“

          He sat still for a while, his face unreadable. “I would then find a way to sacrifice myself and save them both. That’s how it would work - one of them and I, right? Two people stay alive. It’s them then.“ Without another word he got up from his seat. “I think it’s enough for today,” he said and walked away.

          “She is a friend I never expected to have. It just... happened. By accident even. And I am glad it did. She is kind, generous, incredibly brave and thoughtful. And... if she ever gets to sit on that throne and rule over the kingdom, I know it would be in good hands. Perhaps even better ones than now if I may say so. But you didn’t hear it, I never said it. Otherwise I might get executed.”
