I have quite a few issues with the finale, but let's talk about DM.
My biggest fear is that the writers don't see anything wrong with the approach they chose here. It's their choice and their adaptation, and it's my problem if I don't like it, I know that. It's just that up until now, imo, they've been spot on when it comes to relationships, so I'm wondering what happened here.
You could argue that this season was never about them and we will get everything we want in S4, but was it really necessary to bring them together in this way and subject them to all this, character-wise, now? And leave us with it for another two years, or however long it will take to make S4?
I can see someone arguing that, look, they're together! Hooray! It's canon! Never mind that it happened off-screen. Never mind the circumstances under which they presumably got together. Am I really supposed to believe that Armand offered him petty revenge on Lestat, taught him how to daywalk, and Daniel is suddenly in love?
Because that's all the show has given us to work with at the moment (along with the out-of-spite turning and the one-sided obsession for 52 years). And who knows, maybe it's all true. Maybe there is nothing more to it. We don't know! How I wish they had given them just one or two more scenes together.
After this ending, how can anyone who hasn't read QotD think that Daniel isn't just the next person for Armand to latch onto? How can anyone think that there's anything different about what Armand is doing when it comes to Daniel?
And don't get me started on Armand's and Daniel's individual arcs this season. I was fine with them having smaller roles, being kind of one-dimensional in Daniel's case and being used mostly for shock value when it comes to Armand. I like Daniel being a bit of a jerk, I love unhinged Armand, but this last episode put everything in an ugly light.
I'm sorry, but Armand's grand master plan makes zero sense, he is not some evil mastermind. His manipulations are born out of desperation, out of fear, out of a need for love and stability, and a desire to survive. Yes, it's not out of character for him to do something like what he did in the butcher shop, that's why we love him, and I'm glad Assad got the chance to play the gremlin, but not like this, not under these circumstances.
