All about the Designer Mr. Nitin Bal Chauhan and his work with Sewa Himalayas an NGO in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh for his graduating collection, Nift in 2002.
Everyone these days have been talking about Sustainability. Designers are coming up with themes and ideas to incorporate or promote Sustainable fashion. But we as an individual, have ever tried to sustain our wardrobe ever? Well, yes i have - First when i buy clothes and they are new their use is limited once they become old to me i keep using them regularly wearing them at home etc and after i actually get bored of them I take out time to do a little bit of DIYs on my clothes which solves two purposes- Promotes Sustainable Fashion wear and also Make me wanna wear something again as it has now been totally transformed so i get a new Clothing in my Wardrobe too.
Here i had a T-shirt whose i never liked the color and the fit too, It was a little bigger and i used to look fat. But once i just used my scissors on them and only a few stitches Voila! i had something totally different than before. It was a Crop top now with a deep V at the back neck looking like a structure of a Bow which i can not resist to wear anymore.
Here i am showcasing my entire day But Why?
It shows my âConsumptionâ in an entire day starting from the morning till the evening.Â
Somethings i just can  not live without
What if Andy Warhol and Jeremy Scott collaborate and create a range of clothing?(which i did not know in the start already did)
Well, How would it come out to be? Somewhat like this? I took the artwork of Andy Warholâs Marilyn Monroe and tried it on Jeremy Scottâs collections to give it an idea of the same.Â

To classify something as -Male, Female or Both, One has to consider the following-
The first Look /Appeal/ Mood
The Utility
the color scheme
The qualitiesÂ
The mindset / pre-conceived notions
For the BODY and Dress assignment we were supposed to chose a body part and brainstorm all possible items we could wear on/ around that body part. As one can see mine was a foot where in i chosed two items of clothing for my Visual board that is stockings and Shakles and with the idea of âBondageâ in two different aspects Iâve explored the items of clothing/dress.
Also i have explained on one of the pages what is the difference between costume, dress, clothing, apparent and FashionÂ
Everything here talks about the society, the culture and traditions in the past and how they have evolved OVER THE YEARS. Iâve also tried to create a parallel comparison between the brides and grooms of 80s and 90s to the brides of today (taken, Sabyasachi) and compared elements that match and those which do not. Â
Well here i explain what is Beauty and what is Aesthetics!
Here, i share another VISUAL BOARD created by me for the âBEAUTY & AESTHETICSâ.
BEAUTY is nothing but anything the way you perceive.Â
Whatever Appeals is Beauty and whatever disturbs or is displeasing is Ugly.
As one can notice all the images in the board are aesthetically very beautiful be it the angle, balance, photography etc. but the subject behind is UGLY.
To define something ugly is really tough in terms of appearances but subjectively all the images have something that makes it ânot Beautifulâ; once the person gets a closer and deeper look with the understanding of the visuals individually, i am sure heâll understand what i am trying to say .Â

VISUAL BOARD for Semiotics.
Here, I have used a playing card as my background and for the faces, I took - a hitler (for the Nazi Germany) representing one of the EVIL side of the Symbol that is famous for the âGOOD LUCK and PROSPERITYâ for which i took the face of a laughing buddha and created a visual board out of the imagination. Hope you like it. :)
So? Ever wonder about the different signs and symbols we come across the entire day and what could they mean other than what we know them for?. Well.. I, my friends have something right here for you on âSWASTIKAâ.
I first talk about the field of study- Â SEMIOTICS (the study of signs and symbols) and further i have explained how SWASTIKA has been used in different contexts throughout the world.Â
Brahmaputra market, popularly known as the BP market, is a tangled line of shops, and also a paradise for street food lovers. It comes to life in the evening, when scores of vendors set up their stalls in front of the shops selling everything from fantastic gol gappas to divine kebabs. Itâs Noidaâs rendition of Chandni Chowk, only less crowded.
another one with lines. In this one inspite of dots we were to place lines (elements) on the dress forms in different positions so as to maintain balance and proportion (principles) of the dress forms and the garment silhouttes generated. Here too it was easier to work with two lines at the same time to achieve the principles than it was to work with just one.
Can you see some dots on the dress forms?? Well in this exercise we were to place Dots (elements) on the dress forms at different places in a manner so as to maintain proportion and balance (Principles) in the garment silhouttes generated. While doing it with two dots it was easier than with one dot because its easy to maintain balance then.

The one i Loved was RADIAL BALANCE as were to take any motif (i took my rorschachs) and replicate it in a manner that it creates a pattern which when divided in half from any side looks the same just like a PIZZA or a Circle. Hence the patterns were flipped, mirrored, rotated etc to get the desired look of the Radial Patterns. I found it really interesting and easy to do and also observed that while we create a radial pattern we get another pattern or a motif out of the same .
As we proceed further we were asked to do Rorschach. One of the most fun exercises but what actually we were to do was to generate silhouttes out of these rorschachs placing it once, twice, mirroring it, what so ever possible. All my rorschachs were really different from one another in terms of their contour hence i could get a few understanding out of the same. Two of my rorschachs were hardly joined in the centre which created a lot of issues while placing it on the croqui as it was not possible to follow natural lines of the body with that shape. The one well connected in the centre did a pretty amazing work. Another observation was that it was really difficult to use one single rorschach as a whole for the body beacuse it was not in proportion to the body. Also the rorschachs were easily placed on the widest parts of the body first.
