We were taught in elementary to never pour water on a grease fire, but to dump baking soda on it instead !

If you don’t have baking soda in your immediate vicinity, I have used salt for this purpose and it worked fine.  (You just dump enough on that it smothers the fire.)  But for the love of all the gods, no flour or water.
